It ia known that tbs Artec* occupied Arizona
in early day*, end that they assured Carte*and
his follower! that the precious stone*, of which
they had a considerable store, came from Use
fer North, beyonda the limits of the empinof
Montesnma as Use Spaniards foansd it. Tire
rains of those cities are eoottered through Cen
tral Arizona, and an outside of Use greeter ruins
running ia a sensi-oiwle from the rtctnty of

FraSdaS mountain, and aouUsaaatward to Use
GUa. East of Use mouth of Use Salinas ia found
a range of minor rains on the hill tops near
running water, supposed at firat to bare been
intrenched mining camps, located in an enemy a
country, or in a country subject to raids from
hostile people.

precious metals is found, and Use inference that
tha oeoapanta must haro been seeking for eotoe-
thing dee ia quits natural. One of these ruins
is loffsted on a bed of lavs which flowed for
hundred miles to tbo soothes* from the now
silent crater of sssouot Ben Francisco, and ia
twenty miles from water. The builders of that
ramp were evideeUy cull

ago Kit Canon s men, in passing through
Kara jo eour.try ia New Uexseo, and tbo east
portion of Use nover folly explored country .
tbo MoquU, found on a gravelly plain large
quantities of small red atones in the earth, ear
ned ont by the red ants of Use country, and ear
ned some of them away with them. Yean after,
Fred. Henry, a well known Arizonian Indian
lighter and miner, gave e number of those stones
to e geoUeman from this city, who bad one -*
them ground by a lapidary, and it proved to
a genuine ruby, Usough not very valuable on i
count of its dark color, Use lighter hued oi
having Use preference in Use market A very
pale emerald, found on the Ilaaiysmpi, aooom-
oanied the rabies, and all the stones are
now in the cabinet of the Wells Female Col
lege, Auburn, New York. Other rnbsoeof similar
character have been brought here from time to
time l>y explorers, and have been seen by vari
ona jewelers in this city. The diamond is
generally found In s country produoing tbs
mby sod emerald, and the opinion that it would
l>e discovered in Arizona appears to have been
verifled. A Montgomery alreot jeweler informs
us that s few months since a party of explorers
in Arizona found amoug the ant-hUls some
bright atones which took their fauey, and they
brought several of thorn away. Some of these
stones were ecatterod around and lost, and by
far the finest—described as being of the size of
a common chestnut—wee pieced on an anvil and
smashed Into a thousand pieces, an a teat of its
being a diamond, it beings popular fallacy that
a rest diamond cannot be broken by any me-
lalie or miners! substance lo-s bard than It Half.
After this no particular attention was paid to
them, until one which had been sent to Boston
and cut by a lapidary, was returned here certi
lied to be e brilliant of the purest water, of twt
cerate weight, and worth from $300 to $100
It was heresbown to a Montgomery street jew
elry, from whom we have Use above particulars.
Upon its being returned here with the news of
its character and value, the party quietly flUed
ont for another trip, and retornud to Arizona.
Nothing has s‘nce been heard from them —.Son
