Collision.—Yesterday afternoon as the pas senger train on the Central Road was moving out from the shed, and the train on the Macon and Western moving in, they oollided near the entrance to the shed, but both trains moving slowly no material damage was dona A few bumpers were broken end a brakeman slightly hurt is the extent of the oeaualties. Anotukb Cold One.—Yesterday was another wintry day. Daring the forenoon the eon shone brightly but in the afternoon it became cloudy and damp rendering it exceedingly unpleasan A few minutes before sunrise the mercury indi cated 21 degrees in YineviUe, which is, exoept in rare cases, about aa cold weather as we usu ally have in this latitude. The Stolen Mzlodzon.—We call sprcisl at tention to the advertisement of the ’feuperin- dendent of the Presbyterian mission school, offering a reward of ton dollara for the melodeon that was stolen from the chapel last week. Tbe Superintendent and teachers have labored zeal ously in behalf of their echool, and they feel the Ion of their melodeon greatly. Look out for it. Sale or Paintlvos.—The oonoert ia Bah. ion's Hall attracted the elite of Macon, and the sale of the beantifnl painting in the old poatoffioe building was a failure. The visit of so dis tinguished a vocalist as Mrs. Moulton, we were oonfident beforehand, would eclipse any and everything beeida To-night we feel assured that the sale will be largely attended. To those who have not visited and examined those gems of art we recommend a visit to the plaoe to-day, aa to-night will be offered tha last oppprtnnity to make a purchase. They are, in truth, real gems, and we once more urge our citizens to attend the sale to-night. Come Back.—We are glad indeed that the South Georgia Conference have returned to the people among whom they labored so faithfully this year, the beloved pastors of the Mulberry andFiiat Streets Methodist churches—Rev. J. O. Branch to the former and Rev W. W. Hicks, D. D., to the Utter. Tbe smiles of Frovidenoe eeem to have rested upon their labors this year and great success has crowned their efforts to npbnild the earthly kingdom of the Redeemer. We know that their flocks are greatiy rejoiced to have them abide with them and brea^ to them the bread of life another year. They ere, each of them, able and zealous ministers, and we trust that they may continue to see the work of ths Lord prospering in their hands. The Moulton Concebt.—A large and fash- ionable audience greeted Mrs. Monlton and her talented assistants at Ralston's Hall last night. The programme for the evening consisted of the rarest genu of musie, and was rendered with charming grace and masterly skill by the accomplished Udy. Her assistants, too, ao- qnitted themselves well, and fnlly sustained their boundless artistio renown. Each singer greeted with hearty encores from the audi- e. The lateness of the honr forbids an ex tended notice of the concert, bnt Mrs. Moulton certainly won the admiration of her entire au dience, and we hope that she and the talented artiste who accompany her, may, at some f attire time, again charm th9 citizens of Macon with their wonderful vocal powers. Tbavel Incbeaeino.—We learn from the conductors on the Southwestern Road that the daily number of passengers has been greater for the past two weeks than at any time in many months. We leant also from onr hotel proprietors that they are doing a thriving business in tho “transient” line. We are glad to hear that somebody is prospering. The day trains on the Southwestern Road are crowded to their utmost capacity every day. With such asoommodating {gentlemen as Mat thews, Dasher and Bass to superintend the trains we do not wonder that parties who can pos sibly arrange to pass over that road should do With the oonduotors on ths night accom modation trains we have no acquaintance, but three nicer gentlemen than the conductors of the regular day passenger trains can not be found. Rev. Jno. McCulloob, cf Ken tucky, Secretary of the Southern Department of the Amerioan Sunday Sobool Union, will deliver an address on the oooasion. He ia an eloquent and impressive speaker, and we bespeak for him a large audienoe. It is a subject in which eveiy professed Christian should feel and man! fest a lively interest—the religious training of the young. Much good has already been ac complished through the medium of the Sunday School, and much remains yet to be dona We hope onr people will not forget the meeting at the Presbyterian Church next Sabbath. We will mention the subject again, and try to put the people in remembrance of the day and h0Ur - - Aobicultubal Meeting.—We hope our citi zens will remember that the Bibb County Agri cultural Society hold their next regular monthly meeting in the City Hall, on Saturday next— Business of much importance will come before tho meeting. The labor question for 1872 will be discussed. This is, in onr opinion, the most important subject that can possibly be present ed for practical solution. The present labor system, or rather want of system, is doing in- calenlable damage to the agriculture! interests of the country. We want, and muBt have, if wo ever succeed in agriculture, concert of ac tion among the planters. There moat be some practical plan adopted, whereby capital can control labor. We must realize the fact that individual effort will be of no avail in an at tempt to systematize free labor, and that an universal, thorough understanding must be made among land owners before it can be re duced to anything like a proper system. Fences have gone to wreck, low lands have been ren dered unfit for use by inundation, and broken lands by washing into gullies, from a want of proper ditching; and the farming interests of the country generally are sorely crippled,— There must be some remedy proposed and re- dueed to practioe. Ths fence question will probably be discussed also. Delegates will be elected to the next Agricultural Convention. Some advance steps will be taken with regard onr County Fair ter 1872, and perhaps other items of importance. Wo hope our citizens generally will realize the importance of the meeting and turn out en The Late Mishap on the Ctntbal Road.— On the night ot the lStb instant, as the up pas senger train on the Central was passing Walnut Creek bridge the bell was rung wrongfully and the train stopped. Before it oould get headway again on the np grade a freight train, which was following the passenger train, cams in collision with the latter and inflicted some little damage —Tery little beyond breaking some of the coup lings. Common report, however, magnified the mischief, and seems to have been embodied in local article in this paper next morning. The next issue corrected that aooonnt, but we received yesterday the following upon the aubjeot, from the Savannah office of the road : Savannah, Ga., December 20, 1871. Editors Telegraph and Messenger:— The no- tioe of an accident on this road, published in your paper of the 19th inst, conveyed the im pression that the damage was much greater than really happened, aa yon will admit, when I inform yon that the rear car, which reoeived the whole shock from the freight engine, was brought to Savannah that night with passengers in it. In fact, tha entire passenger train of five cars that came to Savannah on the night of the accident was in the train when the acci dent occurred, and every car that was in the train could have been brought to Savannah that night by carrying them wi th chains instead of the ordinary coupling?, which were broken. You will, therefore, see that instead of a “com plete wreck of two care of the passenger train,” there was, in reality, no car in the train seri ously damaged. And instead of a man with a lantern being placed in the rear of the passen ger train, he was sent back as rapidly ss possi ble for the purpose of stopping the freight train, and bet for the difficulty of passing quickly over Walnut Creek bridge, he would, without doubt, have succeeded in giving such timely notioe as to prevent the Accident In reference to the lady with five children that remained in the car. If the rear car ia meant, I can only say that I entered that car Immediately after ths aocidest, and if there were any persona in it I foiled to see them. Tho whole difficulty woe caused by ringing the bell as a signal to stop tbe train. This, I believe, was done by some one who wished to get off the train, and not for “ malicious ” The result was, however, the same. Gzaxd Rattle at Caelos’.—On Monday night next, at the saloon of W. P. Carolos, will be raffied a fine horse worth three hundred dollara, a beautiful diamond pin valued at one hundred and fifty dollara, and a fine gun valued at one hundred. Fifty-five chances will be sold at ten dollars per ebaroe, and there will be three chances to win a prize. Tha highest number takes the hone, the second the pin, and the third thtLgun. Don't foil to be on hand, as the boxircxjwct lota of fun, and the winners are to treat the crowd to on oys ter supper.
