The fnllest exorcise of the mind for the greater portion of tho day and night daring a long period of years, is compatible with perfect physical health. Sir Robert Teel, the elder Fitt, Lord Fainter ston, the Dnke of Wellington, Lord Brongbam, Mr. Webstar, Sir Walter Scott, Boron Hnmbolt and a hundred other instances might be ad dneed to confirm this statement. It ia a groat mistake to suppose Uist study aluno will break down the oonstilntionand lead to prenialnre decay. Wbon Ibis oocurs, tho re salt may be traced to palpable violations of hygienic economy. If the mind be I ixed, and the hotfy at the stmo time ia abused, of coarse a onllapsc of both is inevitablo. We repeat, however, that with proper alien tiontotbe ordinary rules of health, the mind is capable of almost indefinite exertion, with out deleterious conseqnence*. This may be as cril>ed, at least in psit, to the difference exist ing between the operations of the mind and body. The waste of the latter is positive, and appreciable in it* effect* under the wear and tear of exposure. Hence, the process of recu peration requires time, and other addenda, to be complete. Bnt the report of the legislative investigating committee, who have just been looking into tho alleged over- iaane of bonds, shows that the credit of the State has gone with its money. The operations of the ao-called financial board have not only been reckless, bnt as dishonest (to compare small things with great) as the financial joggling of tho Tammany government of New Y’ork city. It is vain for Governor Soott to attempt to throw the blame on tbo Legislature, which ha accuses of extravagance, or on unnamed con - spire tors, whom b» charges with a systematic attempt to destroy the credit of the State.
