Rocoh Fcx.—Yesterday morning we noticed quite a number of negro boys apparenUy wrest ling. In a few minutes one fell and the cry was raised “pile on;”and they did pile on aa long aa they could stick, the poor fellow at the bottom begging them to get off all the while. When at length they rolled off, the little fellow straightened himself to get breath, and moved away from the 6cene of action as though he had been tent for in great haste. The Waoiio Mas.—Onr informant seems to have been mistaken in regard to the cutting affray in GriawoldvUle, on Saturday last. Mr. Hubbard Reynolds was only slightly cut in the fraeus with the negro, but a Mr. McLond was mortally wounded. Mr. Reynolds is rapidly re covering from the injuries he received, but UcLoud was still in a critical condition yester day morning, with no hope of recovery. The facta in tho case, aa related by Mr. Reynolds to the gentleman who informed us ot our mistake yesterday, make it a very aggrivated affair.— The negro ia still in jail at Clinton. AmurvEb.—Rev. F. M. Kennedy the newly chosen editor of the Southern Christian Advo cate, has arrived in the city and will enter np on the discharge of his duties at onoe. Mr. Kennedy is a native ef South Carolina. He is, we learn, a ripe scholar, a dose reasonerand an able writer, and we doubt not the Confer ence has made such a selection aa will do honor to the body, and sustain the reputation of thefBouthern Christian Advocate as one of the ablest and moat useful religious periodicals -io the South. We welcome him to our oity and bid him G od speed in the noble work npen which he enters. Bnowx's Hotel.—Though the “Brown House” was an institution of Macon when yet she as pired not to tho dignified name of city, its worthy proprietor does not belong to the old fogy class who oppose any advance in modern refinements and improvements. Mr. E. E. Brown, the present proprietor, has fed tbe hungry in this city far more than a quarter of a century, and has kept pace with the times nnlil his house now stands side by side, in reputation, with those of the great metropolis. The biil-of- fare embraces everything that the home and foreign markets afford, and his cooks would do honor to tbe finest eating houses of the Old World. He has no servants bnt the most polite and attentive. His rooms are furnished in ele gant style, and guests are treated in such man ner as to render them in every way comforta ble. The house is just in front of the passen- ger depot, making it convenient to tbe travel ing public, and we commend it to their patron age. ' Daxgeeods Spout —We saw yesterday after noon, on one of the streets away from the busi ness portion of the city, eight or ten little boys, aged (we suppose from their sizes) from eight to twelve years, with tin pans, tin buckets and pieces of guttering, beating upon them with atieka, making a hideous fuss. Just ms we passed them, a gentleman and lady were driving up the street, and one of the boys remarked, “lei’s make them horses runaway.” They all at once set up a terrible yell, and started toward the buggy, beating upon their pans and buckets. Luckily, tho horses were very gentle, though one of them seemed considerably frightened. After passing them we saw the same process re peated a time or two. It may be urged that they were only children and, therefore, ex cusable, but such a plea would poorly compen sate for broken bones and a shattered buggy. If children cannot behave themselves when up on tbe streets they should be kept at home. A Des or Thieves.—On Fourth street oppo site the passenger depot and noar Holmes' liv ery stable, is a negro hotel, in connection with which is a barber shop and bar room. There is not, perhaps, this aide of the celebrated Five Points of New York, more literally a den of thieves. They have their “porters” at the pas- eenger depot on the arrival of every train to entire unsuspecting country negroes thither; so soon as tbe victim enters, be is fleeced of all his money and other valuables that can be stolen from him. The most notorious negro thieves and robbers in tbe city make it their headquarters, and never a week passes bnt some member of the gang or tho entire posse are before the Mayor's Court for stealing. Yes terday morning we heatd the details of a regu lar pick-pocket robbery case, which occurred there the night before. Only one of the parties was canght, the others making good their es cape. The potioe are no doubt aa vigilant as they can be, but one man can not be there and half a mils away at the same time. Can not there be some more efficacious remedy applied than ‘thirty days in the guardhouse ?" Matos's Cocbt.—Several parties had bought tickets in this grand gift enterprise, and occu pied front seats to ascertain the resnit of the drawing announced for ten o’clock yesterday morning. Before proceeding to turn the wheel, the manager inquired into tho amounts paid in or the services rendered in consideration of which they deemed themselves entitled to stock in the poncern. Francis Garner was first called to the stand and plead as her claims to stock; a high old Christmas drunk, which lacked just five dollars of being sufficient to purchase one share, ac cording to his Honor's valnation of Christmas “highs.” She can take choice of cash to the amount of a V, or assist Finney in boiling soap for ten days. Minnie Austin had only stolen an old calico coat from another sister for her shire, and it required tea dollars or thirty days’ assistance in hotel-de-Finney-on-the-Enropean-pIan-thirty- centi-a-day to procure her a share. Janies Goldwire does the carving at Brown's Hotel, and not finding anfficient cooked meats to satisfy his carving desire, proceeded to knock down another colored darkie and try bis carver on fresh nigger. Although such ser vices are extremely popular just now, there are too many engaged in it to command high prices, and his Honor couldn't dispose of a share in rCFP A "NTPl? Sam Smith got drank and gave free lemons on a new iseue, doable revolving, cylinder escape ment, beck action, patent cussing machine, re cently invented expressly for the holidays. An additional investment of five dollars procured him a ticket. Charles Forbes thought to come in on a slick trick for several shares, bnt unluckily for Char lie, the business that he follows is overdone at present, and professional services of tbf char acter rendered by him, though once command ing high wages, are jnst cow considerably under par. He simply assisted in robbing another brother of Sumner of seventeen dollars, which at the valuation placed npon shares, lacked just twenty-five dollars of being enough to procure a ticket He c»n “pay in" or play with a shovel in street dirt for thirty day* No more appli cants being present, another grand drawing was announced for to-morrow, and the court got in his buggy while we took it afoot. T HIS CORN SHELLEB weighs only three pounds—is made of cast iron—has a rotary movement, and is the first invention in thiB line that Bbells “without friction on tbe Cob,” and is, therefore, the easiest operating Hand Corn Shelt er in existence. It cannot get out of order by use, will last for years, sheila all sizes of corn ears, can be used by any one at first sight. It can be fastened to a bench, chair or table, or for able purposes screwed to a small board, which wul answer for a seat when using the implement. In shelling, the operator grasps the butt of the ear of corn with left hand, presents the small end to the shelling tee- h, and rotates the sheller with the right hand; the acute angular teeth penetrating between the rows of com cbee to the cob, shelling very easily and rapidly; when the ear can no longer be held, the projecting cob is taken bddof by the right hand, and the sheller rotated with the left As this sheller is patented on a new principle, we invite inspection. But seldom has such an oppor- unity been offered to energetic business men. We are fast disposing of county rights to such men ana no others. The little Sheller supplies a want uni versally felt, as is proven by its rapid sale. The price—S3 00—puta it in reach of all, white and black.
