Bits, von Pareto rax Prune Dorr.—After

bonds to be cancelled end destroyed.
The main objection nrged to the bill was that
It diverts from tbe eabool fund the half of the
State Hoad rental now applied thereto.
Senator Brown has introduced another bil!

The bonds aba 11 not be sold bat deposited in the

port of the schools.
We agree with the Senators, McAfee, Jervis,
Arnowsnd Cain opposing the bill, that the di
version of the school money la wrong. Wo be
lieve nothing should tamper with thle sacred
food. We hope the 8enate will reconsider Ibe

The entire oommnniiy was shocked about 10

couch in the front room of tho Augusta Club r
Broad street, snto e pistol in hla nght hand and
a ballet bole in hia head. Maj. Allen had been
seen the day before by a large number of friends
and acquaintances, apparently in the beet of
spirits. Early yesterday morning Maj. Allen
went to the Glob House end after stopping in
the bar for a few minutes went np stairs to the
front room on tbe seoond floor. James Forbes
one of the colored employee at the Glob was
requested by Maj Allen, to go aronnd to Kein-

oarriege sent aronnd to hie house at half- past
nine o'clock. This Forbes did, end afterwards
retained end informed Maj. Allen, who was ~

to him to be perfectly oool and self-possessed.
About twenty minnten past nine, Charles
Dwyer, assistant bar-keeper, went np to the
room to carry a newspaper, and discovered
blood on tbe floor, ne then saw that Major
Allen was lying on the ooneb, dead, with a pis
tol in bis right band, which was resting on the
floor. If« immediately went down stairs and
informed Mr. Otis, the bar-keeper, of bis dis
covery. Tbe relatives of tbe deceased end Cor-
onor Ponrnello were at once notified, and an in
quest was held over the body at half past eleven
o'clock. Tbe jury found the body lying in tbe
position in which it was first discovered. The
conch was on the up-town side of tbe room,
against the wall. On Ibis the deceased was lying
npon bin bark. Across his legs was n recent
oopy of the New York Herald, indicating that
he bad beon reading hut a short lime before bis
death. Ilia left band, which was lying nearly
on hia breast, grasped a half-consumed cigar.
Hu right hand w&a resting npon the floor with
a piatol—a five-shooter, nickel plated—held in
it.' Hia bead was inclined slightly to the right,
and on tbe floor was a pool of coagulated blood.
Tbe wound from which tho latter had flowed
was nearly over the right ear.
