Phoenix Guano by oomposting it with cotton seed,
ia one that most give (xcellent results. I have an
alysed a sample of ginned cotton seed, to which
about fourteen per oei t. of lint was sti'i adhering,
and found it to oontaiu in the air-dry state 3.7 per
cent, of nitrogen, which corresponds to 4K per
cant, of ammonia, a quantity aa groat as exists in
the very beet brands of ammoniated superphos
phate, and one-half aa much as occurs in the first
qualities of fish guano. A compost made by mix
ing Phoenix Gnano with, say, twice its weight of
cotton seed, and allowing the whole to heat, wonld
constitute a very rich and actire feitilizer. The
cotton seed develops, in its fermentat on, fatty
add, and acetio add in considerable quantities.
