Herald, of yoaterday:
Wa learn from pasaengeraon the Incoming

the season fell Sunday and Sunday night in tbs
Georgia mountains. At the terminus of tbe
Air-Line Railroad, tbe snow yesterday morning
lay on the ground to tbe depth of aoven inches
deep. Although webad but a alight touen of tbe
storm at this point, yesterday morning was bi
ting oold. Tbe thermometer showed a temper-
store of 37 degrees.
On Sooday last, another aecldent occurred
on tbe State Itoed, between Aowortb and Al
toona, which resulted in tbo destruction of two
engines. Tbe Inmber train was ordered oat on
Holiday last for some pnrpoao, and was running
at ordinary speed, whon it was snddenly met by
so engino belonging to a delayed freight train
at Altoona. The engineer, fireman, and other
attendants of the train bad got on tho engino to
run down to Aowortb to get something to eat.
Boon after leaving, and while running at a rapid
speed, Ibey met tbe Inmber train; being una
ble to check up, they were compelled to rubmit
to a collision, wblob resulted id tbe general
smash op of both engines causing considerable
delay to tbe passenger trains. Ho great was tbe
I in pains of tbo engines that they were driven
into each other, requiring tbo aid of passenger
trains to poll them apart.

Coder this bead we find the following in tbe

The New York Bonlh, in a late Issue, after
speaking of the yellow pine belt of Ueorgia,
says there appeared io that journal some weeks
ago a detailed aoconnt of the preparation of
turpentine from the trees In North Carolina.
The authority quoted nbovo states that he was
informsd by persons long engaged in tbe lrado
in that State that the exportation of naval
stores might be esrried ou under more favor
able oiroumsUuoes here than in North Carolina,
owing to the foot that the longer season in
Georgia allows of two dippings mors than osn

every way equal it not superior to that produced
elsewhere. The following 1s the estimated cost
of working five thousand sores for this purposo

Cutting 340,000 boxes at lo per box $3,400
40 bands for one year at $200 each, 8,000
Feeding 40 hands at $G0 3,400
