tho hospitality and good taste of Atlanta. It is

the symbol ia prophetic, and that tbe remits
of the project, when completed, will be aa pleas,

The room was beautifully deoorated, and the
Isblea were elegantly arranged. The pyramid
cakes, of which there most have been at least
thirty, produced a pleasing effect in the twuf

Mr. Amos Oumminge write* t The water fairly
boils with sharks. I oounted 112 within the
spaoe of an acre, none of whioh were leas than
8 feet long. Indian river people sey they have
seen them 20 feet In length. I saw one that
xnearared over 17 feet. They would frequently
break under the bows of our twenty.one foot
■ail boat, careening her to one side and at times
half lifting her trom the wster. They flocked
about the boat by dozens, and cssthuugry looks

ariil through the water aa if aurprised, bnt
saucily darted back to tho craft to seo what
had bit him. Occasionally boatmen plnnge lily
irons into them, and tow them about ths river
against wind and tide for milt*. Homo of tho
natives declare that they are man-eaters, while
others deny it. Jim Paine, of Fort Cspron,
told me that he had stood in the water for hoars
while these big sharks were nosing about his
lags, bnt Dr. Fox, my gnlde, seemed afraid of
them, and declared that be bed known them to
pull an estimable yonng lady fromSavsnnsh out

in five seconds. Dnringtbe war, it is raid that
a, boat containing 14 men was upset, in Jnpiter

Tho city of Birmingham baa, says the Mont
gomery Advertiser, a system of wster works
almost complete which will go far towards en
hancing tho value of property and increasing
tho pleasure of a residence therein. Tho engine
located on Valley Creek, two mile* away,
east of north from tho public square. The res
ervoir, which is a perfect little beauty,is located
midway between the creek and the square on
the lop of a round hill HO feet above the level
of tho city. From this reservoir the main pipes
lend down 2Ht street but branches extend from
these through tho other principal thoroughfares.
The reoervoir Is capable of holding 1,070.000
gallons of water bnt it is *0 constructed that its
capacity ceu be doubled without stopping the
water supple to the city for even * moment of
time. Mr. Daniels. Mr. Bilker and Col. Fow-

daring the stay of tbe editors in Birmingham so
that they might have seme idea of whst service

and this with a very slight preasnre at the foun
