A fearful story la told of the Indian chief
and robber of Tepio, Mexico, Loxada, which
has bnt recently been bronght before the pnbllo,
and whloh for crnolty cannot find n parallel. In
the small Village of Ban Lula, near Topic, there
has been discovered a subterranean apartment,
constrnoled especially for the prosecution of
horrible orirue*, and in this was found, not long
stnoo, a man who for fourteen years had not
■eon tue light of day. Unshaven, unwashed,
almost doubled by foeblenecs, and withal bereft
of Reuse, when disooveredho is paid to havehnd
rnoto the appsatnnoe of a wild animal than of
humanity. From motives of revenge Loxada
had him inoarocratod in this sepulchre, and
formerly would seem to have taken especial
pleasure in witnessing the tortures of this un
happy man, visiting him dally for that purpose,
taunting him and mocking him in bis helploas
misery. The wretched man was plaoed in ohurge
of a physician, who is obliged to use the utmost
prudence in bringing him forth from his living
tomb to enjoy onoo more tbo liberties of life,
and, even with the greatest care, it is thought
his enfeebled system will not sustain tbe shock

The reoent death in Ireland of the Marohiou-
cm of Waterford reopens a singular chapter of
aria toe ratio scandal. A nnrnber of years ago
the deceased waa married in London to the
Hon. Mr. Vivian. Shortly afterward she became
intimate with tho prsaent Marquis of Water-
ford, then a yonag man in the life guards.
The iutimacy g»ve rise to many unpleasant re-
mark-, which were co-il'iriueil wheu the two
eloped. Mr. Vivian applied for a divorce, whiob
waa granted in due course, and then it trans
pired that the dissolved marriage had never
possessed any binding force, as Mr. Vivian had
’ a wife by a previous tuarrugo at-.ll living. When
the deceased eloped with the youug marquis she
went with him to reside on his estate in Ireland,
where she has since remained. A few months
age, when it became known tha: she mas about
to give birth to a child, the fact was announced
that after her divoroe from Mr. Vivian she was
duly married to tho Marquis of Waterford.
Bubaequenlly she gave birth to a still-born child
and immediately died. Lady Waterford is a
oonsm of the unfortunate I.ady Mordanat, wuh
whose aoandilous life and subsequent insanity
the I’rmee of Wales was mixed np two or three
years ago, and her daath under the circnm
stances detailed is likely to oreate considerable
sensation in tbe fast fashionable world of Lon

eleot from the Kilolgh district, publishes a card

Hon, and make provision for the payment of the
bond* at maturity; but the old is linked with the
new, created by the iosne of special tax bonds,
and nntil a final adjustment it made of the
whole, no tax will be levied to pay interest.
Thu is virlnal repudiation, but tbe obligation
