from tbe garden.

features of tho exhibition. The display em
braced n very large collection of floral beauties,
some of wbieb woro very rare, and some ar
ranged with lbs most exqalstto taste.
Tbe display of dahlias, roses and pinks was
from tbe garden cf Ur. D. Ulino, and was re-
maikably floe. Ur. Uilne Is a florist of great
ability, and tbe beauty of bis productions e’.io
ited the heartiest admiration from all tbe Tiai
tors. Ills cotlroUon of dahlias was especially
fine.
Ur. Uilne also exhibited a beantifnl collec
tion of verbenas; bnt in tbic be was excelled
by M let nnlkley.
Tbe most conspicuous diapaiy of ont fi iwers
was made Jointly by lira. T. B. Orosham and
Uiaa Clare deGraffenried. These ladies exhi
bited an Immense mound of flowers, embrao
in; almost every vr- sty now in bloom, and
was arranged with Urn most oxqalsito tastr,
These Udiee deserved a premium and they got

One of the rarest collodions on exhibition
was placed there by UIss Aana L. Bnlkley.
Tbero was not a common flower in tbe entire
collection, end tbongh it was not Inrgo it chat
longed lbs admiration of ovory ono wbo knew
anything abont flowers. It was pronounced by
florists to be tho rarest collodion of flowers In
tbe ball, and worthy tbe highest consideration
by the judges.
Ulna Knott cxhlbilod two or three collodions,
which wero very beantifnl and very taslofaily
arranged.

exhibition was a firo screen by Uiss Hlrohecior.
This presented tbo appesranoo of bolng ono
large pielore, while in fact it was a plotnre

gronped In snob n style aa to evince nn artistic
taste of e vary high character. Tbe pictures
were eo neatly Joined that most persona wonld
never have suspected tbnt tho work was other

One of (ho best ptotnres on exhibition was
pencil akdeb entitled "Tbe Stolen Bow.” Wo
wero nnabio to ascertain the anthor of this
bot ita merit deserved prominent mention.
There wss al jo a photograph of “Tho Bailie of
tbo Order”— that momorabio fight in front of
reterabnrg, when that dreadful mine was
sprang apon tbo Gonfederato soldiers, and
when thoy made so brilliant a chargo npon tho
ranks of tho enemy and drove them back. This
was ono of tbe most remnrknblo pictures on
exhibition.
That Montezuma cat, which is now engaged

gronnd yesterday morning, with her brood of
yoang rodents all alivo and doing well. There

Mr. Francis Mason is a lecturer by profession,

The County Fair—A Protest.

1 desire to call yonr attention to the contest
for the beat milker—lady nndor eighteen years
of ago—at the Bibb Connty Fair just past. The
oentest was principally between Miss Fyser, of
MacoD, and Miss Janes, of Bibb county. Miss
Freer preceded Miss Jonos and hod a fair, jnst
trial of her skill, end after Miss Jones had a
similar trial. Miss l’ysor was allowed n second
trisi, exceeded her timo ono mincte, and with
all that failed to get as mnch milk M Miss
Jones. As the party making tho entry for Miss
Jones I protest against the decision of the
judges, and will hers challenge any lady in Bibb
oonnly fora renewal of the contest for a parse
of $500. I do this. Messrs. Eiitors, as a simple
act of jastics to Miss Jones, and to convince
any donbtfnl person that she was tho bost
milker on tho gronnd.

John O. Strong testified that when he was in
the custom hou-e Mr. Jayne threatened to lock
him np in Ludlow street jail if he refused to
sign a certificate paper, the contents of whioh
paper were not disclosed to him. To escape
persecution he did sign it,and that subsequently
be was told by Jayne that be (witness) would
lose his placa if ho could not remember that
Reid A Co. bad offered to bribe him to andsr-
gange tho whisky in question.

Hatava, Jnne 20.—Only two hundred negroes
having offered to work on the trocha, a large
part of the army In tbe Central Department is
still required to complete the work.
It has been decided that there ie no necessity
for a third trocha. When the first and second
are completed all the Spanish forces in the

The Post Bays Horses F. Clark was nndembt-
edly the viotim of overwork, having for years
borne a responsible and active port in many
corporations. At the time of his death he was
President of the Lake Shore and Michigan
Southern Railroad Company and the Ucion
Pacific Railrord Compsny. He was a director
in many companies, among which were the
New York Central and Hudson, New York and
Harlom, New York, Now Haven and Hertford,
Toledo, Wabash and Western, Erie and Pitts
burg, Dunkirk, Warren and Pittsburg, Western
Union Telegraph Company and Union Trust
Company, besides several banks and insurance
companies.

gia in 1865, and which has been on trial in the

evidence was closed, raled that aa 'the evidence
waa nncontradicted, that the Colton was turned
over by the military to defendants, who claimed
they were appointed special agents of the Seo-
reiaty of the Treasury to take charge of cap
tured and abandoned property in the seceding
States, no action conld be maintained by the
plaintiff and direoted a verdict for the defen-
dmts, sul-jsct to a revision by tbo Supreme
Court of tbe United States.
