TUESDAY MOKNINO, JPWE 84, 1873.
Mobtality.—Tht mortal remain* of two
calves claimed Ui* aUeollon of the health cffl-

Aw Oan.Miow.-Tbe judge* In the agrieultura
department of the late oounty fair made honor-
aide mention of the home-made fertilizer of
Meeere. U-.nt, liankin A Lamar, and then ne R
looted to report it to the Moratory; henoe it
waa omitted from our report. These gentlemen
bad on exhibition a large number of aamplea of
ootton, grown with the aid of their fertilizer,
and they were the beet *ample* on exhibition,
and regarded a* exceedingly fine for the season
The aamplea were from different eottntiea.
Assisted.—Henderson Johnson, whose name
appear* in the police reoorda this morning, got
ont of tb* barracks yesterday, in a manner that
waa wholly unexpected to him. Be waa arrested
nnder two warranto—on* for assault and bat
tery and the other a pesos warrant. Theta will
give him active mental ooenpation for some
time to come and will probebiy keep him ont of
mischief lo a great extent. Ha now baa bis daily
bread at tbe expense of tbe oounty, and is prob-
ably happier than he has been.
HzrosToto Nchaxc**.—We are requested to
state that if people, who are aware of the exist
ence of nniunoeswili raport them to polio*
headquarters at the Cltf Ball, they will be
promptly abated. It is not aufliolent lo report
them to any poiloeman that may be met any
where on the street*, as those oflioers are not
required nor ripeoted to bear snob Ihlnga in
mind. There la a place at the Oily Ball for
receiving snob reports, and If left there, they
will be attended to without undue delay. This
refera to dead animals that may be found about
tbe atreet*, *a well as to other kind* of no!
ranees. ________

In this city the gneet of Father Baxln. Be will
accompany the exonnion party to Milledgo-
ville on Thursday, where he ia appointed to de
liver an address.
Tho excursion train will bo at the foot of
Mniberry street from seven to eight o'clock,
Thursday morning, thus giving the people an
hoar to embark. The following gentlemen

and It. Wsfgmstein.
Mom Bus.—Another heavy shower occurred
about two o'clock Sunday, accompanied by
tbnnder and lightning, wind and haiL Borne of
the street* in tho aontbera portion of the oity
were badly washed. For a brief while the wind
was pretty high, and the gable end of tbe honso
on the corner of Beeond and Bazla streets, oc
cupied by some negroes, waa blown in, giving
tbo inmates s considerable fright and a good
drenohlng. No considerable amount of hail
fell, tbongb enough to be seen by parties in
different portions of the oity. A tree of some
considerable alzo, on Fine street, waa broken off
a fow feot above tho ground, and a onlvert in
front of tbe ootton faolory waa burst up.

Tho city author! ties have been rat by alow to
moro in the very Important work of patting
the city in a proper sanitary condition. In
view of the existence of cholera elsewhere, this
milter should bsve peremptorily claimed tbe at-
tentionof tbe authorities weeks ago; but "belter
late than never," epplies in this case, as in all
others before “too Isle" oomee.
Tbo street committee has determined to pat
all the available atreet force at woik to-day
cleaning np tbe streets and alleys, removing
everything that has the appearance of nnheahh.
fn!ne-s. They will keep the force thna em
ployed nntil the city ia thoroughly cleansed, and
lime will be freely used wherever there Is occa
sion for it.
Tbe people ere urged to otean their premises
thoroughly, throwing tbe filth and trash outside
their fenoes, whence the street carta can remove
it. The oity will furnish the people lime in
quantities needed at wholesale prices, with
which to disinfect their premises.
This is a most important work, and as tho
authorities have determined lo do their doty
without further delay, if the people win do
theirs, tbe city will aoon be so clean that there
will be little temptation for disease of any kind
to bo developed here. It ia a matter of ex
tremoly argent neoeasity, and all other pnblio
work can well be suspended that this may pro
ceed. With tbe entire city thoroughly cleansed
and kept ao by tho atricteat vigilance, tbe peo
ple then can rest satisfied, and if an epidemio
ahonld visit ns, it will not have been invited by
any criminal negligence on our pert.
War In Africa.
George I’erkins, a colored apology, has swept
law offices in Msoon nnlii be has ought the
infection, and oan't help going to law any moro
than be can nnkink his bair. When he has no
of bis own on band bo loves to haogsronnd
court rooms to aoe others' eases Iriod. That is
some fan to him; bat it is only when bo has a
oase of bis own on docket, ready to Lo tried,
that he la in tbe seventh degree of happiness.
It matters not to him whether he is a plaintiff
or a defendant—whether be gains or loses a
case—be ie happy anyhow, and ends one salt

During the* paat two or three days Pctkins
bar been particularly fortunate. Ho has been
before the Mayor on a ebarg) of disorderly
conduct, has bad three men arrested on pesos
warrants, and bonnd over, and is cow nnder a
collateral bond to appoar before the Mayor Ibis
morning. Be is perfeoily enchanted with bis
aneoess at gelling into court, and is actually
stimulated even to the verge of studying law.
Perkins gets before the Mayor thns by reason
of a fight, which grow ont of one of his law
cases yesterday evening. Among thoee whom
ho had arrested on peace warrants was Gns
Johnson, and he and Gas concluded to settle
the matter vtet armlt. They "pitched in" down
on Third atreet, bnt jnit as they were beginning
to have a decent wool r.ather.'ng, the officious
polios stepped in and spoiled what might have
been an averago news item, by taking both com
batants eff to the barracks. This intermed
dling on tbe part of the po'ioo would ruin the
honestest efforts to get np a uprightly city
column.
Tus Oontrrs —The Superior Quart was in
session yesterday, bnt nothing of pnblio inter
est transpired. Tbe criminal docket waa c: lied,
bnt no case waa taken np.
Nothing of general interest look place in tho
Oounty Court There are many criminal cases
upon tho docket, bnt the defendants are not
within reach of trial. Aa aoon as this court ho-
gan its ravages upon the white and colored va

olaM of persons took piaoe. They went off in
•qnidrons—whither no one knows, and not
many thoro aro who oars. Tire only concern
Is, that they may never oome back any moro.
It is estimated that not lesa than seventy-five of
these peoplo have disappeared, leaving behind
them nothing exoept a very bad repnlatlon, and
a good deal of pleasure that they havo gone.
To eaob ono of them the public, no doubt,
would gladly say:
“Faro theo woll. and if forever.
All tho bolter—fare the* woll.”
Tus Gas Mem Aoanr.—The gas men unfor
tunately subject themselves to frequent etrio-
tnres. The following makes a new line of com
plaint :

Tus Matos's Co cut.—His Honor’s "swarry”
was not ao well attended yesterday morning as
it usually Is oo Mondays. Possibly the weather
war ao hot on Sunday that the book door tip-

Lney Coleman was charged with stealing, and
also with disorderly conduct, bnt no prosecutor
appearing, her oaae was dismissed.
Henderson Johnson, a splendid illustration of
the Darwinian theory, was aeouaed of getting
