When he looked up to where the lady was he discovered that her clothes were on fire. Before he oonld get to her, her clothee were nearly all consumed and she was quite dead. Doh’t Waht Aht Mobe or Hm.—The Gaines- vills Eagle says Judge Buchanan, of toe Talla poosa Circuit, held court there last week, and goes on to make these playful remarks con cerning him: We are informed that before his elevation to the bench Judge Buchanan was considered a passable advocate. Of this, however, we know nothing of our own knowledge. But be this as it may, if his administration here be taken as a criterion, he is wanting in some of the most important elements that go to make np a judge. Many of his rulings were so manifestly biased and oncesideu aa to strike many of the attorneys present with snrprise, ned which did not escape toe notine of jurors and spectators. Henoe our people ask to be relieved from n similar inflio - tion in the future. “Fiat juititiaruitecelum ’' Thiet Absented —A mule thief named Mil ler, alias Mitchell, alias Scroggine, was arrested in Hall oounty last Monday. He had to be be guiled, however, with a bullet in tho back part of his head before he won'.d stop. Preachers Who Kiss the Girls. Brother Price, of the Holeton ( L'enn.) Meth odist, has an editorial on “Ministerial Pru dence,” in which the following oocur3: Wesley was a good judge of human nature as wall as a fine moralist, when he advised his preaohers to “oonverse sparingly with women.” How this prudent advice stands in contrast with the deportment of some gallant girl kissing preachers of modem times, who spend more time in ramping and gabbing with fast ladies than in visiting “the fatherless and widow in their affliction,” and in taking heed to too fiock over which the Holy Ghost has made them overseers. ANOTHER BLACK FIEND. Lady Outraged try a Negro at Orange Court-house, Virginia—How the Fiend Accomplished his Purpose—nis Pursuit nnd Captnro. Washington, June 24, 1873.—A negro farm band, named Walker, committed a fiendish out rage on a yonng lady named MeekB, at Orange Oonrt-house, Ya , lost night. She resided with Rov. Mr. Hatcher, a Baptist minister, who with his wife had gone to toe village to visit a psr- ishoner, leaving Mias Meeks in charge of tho house. The negro entered the sitting room, locked the door, and seized the young lady, Baying that he had come for a certain par pose and intended to accomplish it, if he was shot the next minnte. He warned her that if slio soreamed or made any resistance he wunld oat her bead open. A strag gle ensned, but the girl was overpowered. After thia toe fiend told hor if she left the house or attempted to give tho alarm he wonld kill ber. It was very late before Mr. Hatcher and his wifo returned, bnt they were informed of what had taken plaoe. This morning tho citizens of the town were aroused and a party started in pur suit of Walker.
