advertisement of Mr. W. B. Hall's school for
boys and girls, the exerclaer of whloh will be

A Emjwdid Coca's comb —We saw at Brown
A Co.’s bookstore yosterday a very beautiful
plant known aa the variegated oock’a-oomb, a
species of oetocia. Tbe rod cock's-comb ia a
very commoD plant, and not very highly es
teemed among fhrlata; lmt it ia not often that
one seal a variegated speoimen, especially ao
fine a one aa thia la. It is large, and baa a pro-
fnalon of red and white blooms. The plant
was produced by Mr. A. A. Sabers, of Bast
Msoon, from aeeda planted last spring.
Bocxr Creek Bbidok.—By reference to
advertisement which appears elsewhere this
morning, it will bo seen that on Saturday next,
before tho Cjnrt-honie door, tbe contract will
bo let to build a bridge across Bocky Creek,
Bailey’s Mill. The oontraot for thia work was
awarded laet Saturday, bnt it seems that
contractor has, so far, failed to comply with
tbe terms of the award. This (a the bridge
which that dreadfni accident occurred the day
before yesterday.
It was stated on the street yesterday (hat
parlies who were injnred by tbe fall, or their
friends, would bring salt against tbe oennty
for damages.
Things begin to look like business down at
tbe Perk. Pointers are at work whiteming
things op, and we understand that all the bnild-
irgt are to be repainted and all the fences, sta
bles, stalls, ete., are to be whitewashed.
Messrs E 11a A Cotter are already at work
and will lose no time in heving tbe Park ware-
house oompleted. This will be a oapaoiom
storehouse and ia intended specially for the ex
hibition of ootton, hay and other farm pro-
ducts.
A large detachment of men are engaged in
preparing the gronnd for the hippodrome, the
erection of which will be oommeneed without
delay. Walks and drivse will be laid out to
the hippodrome from the opperend of the Park.
Mr. Ouatin'a force ia engaged upon thia work.
The parade gronod for the military exhibition
la abont oompleted. It ia nearly as level aa a
floor, and on thit portion of It which was oom
pleted a fortnight ago, a carpet of yonng grass
ia already spread. Before the Fair thia will be
a perfectly level green award, clear of weeds
and aa perfect a drill gronnd aa ean be found in
tbe State or ont of it. It comprises that portion
of the gronnd inside the mile traok, reaching
from the grand stand to the npper end of tbe
track, next to Floral Hall.
One of the handaomeet things added to tbe
Park lately, la tbe new fountain, whioh ia now
in operation. Tbe fountain, whioh formerly
stood in the oentre of the broader portion of
tbe lake, has been removed to the other side of
the bridge, and the new one ereoted in its plaoe.
Tbe new fountain stands abont eight feet above
tbe water level. Aronnd the base and tbe stem
are imitations of aquatic plants. Surrounding
the pedestal are three mermaids, facing to the
bank, with their hands reaching back and locked
together. Barring taelr fiihy, or ratber dol-
phining lower extremities in whloh their beau
tiful tormt terminate, they are as pretty a trio
of girls aa ia usually seen abont the Park.

Work on tbe synagogno seems to be entirely
suspended for the present, probably for the
want of fands. Oar Hebrew friends have made
an rxoellent start toward providing themselves
with a bonne of worship, and it la a pity they

Judge Weems disposed of only one case yes
terdsy, and that was a warrant against Mr.
Sttuuel 8. Harman, cha-glng him with mall

testimony that tho said pig bad oommittol snn

requested her to keep the pig np; that she had
failed to do ao, and had beon notified that If she
