Ariel—Lithographs are not printed on
the ordinary hand printing press. The
Dublin Irishman recently contained a
picture printed from a lithograph stone,
on the same press, and at the same time,
with the regular form of the paper; but
it did not present a very attractive ap

great improvement may be made in this
branch of art.
Anxious Enquirer, Lockport, N. Y.—
We can assure you that the charges
against the South that you refer to, are
wicked misrepresentations and falsehoods,
gotten up to keep the Radical party to

North. It you are not as sensitive as we
are about using expletives, we authorize
you to call such statements as you refer
to, in plain English, lies, for that is what
they really are.

“Nilica Rivers”—who favored our
readers witn an article in last week's
Banner of the South— writes us all
the way from her distant home in Ar
kansas, to tell us how much pleased she
is with our paper and our sentiments.
Well, we are pleased with our corres
pondent and her style, and we hope to
hear from her often. She writes such a
spirited letter, and gives expression to
such noble and complimentary sentiments,
that we cannot refrain from publishing
the whole letter :
Oin Trough Bottom, 1
Independence Cos,, Ark.. Dec. 1868. j
Editor of the Banner of the South:
D*ar Sir—You will pardon the intrusion and pre
sumption—for I cannot resist telling vou how very
much pleasure the Banner has afforded me. Some
time ago, I came across an allusion to it in one of the
Southern Advocates, and since have repeatedly in
quired concerning its place of publication, and with
out success, until recently, when a friend in a distant
city ordered it to my address. The people in this
section are nearly all subscribers of Northern publi
cations, though decidedly Southern in sentiments. I
shall use my influence in extending the circulation of
the Banner here; for, though not as exciting as
Northern sensational literature, it is better calculated
to improve the mind, enrich the memory, and foster
love of country, pride in her institutions, and, above
it all, it teaches fidelity to the Past.
I honor our Beloved Dead, and I also honor as truly
those who yet stand at the helm, undaunted and un
dismayed, when the ship is nearing wreck and disas
ter. There are so few who are brave and patriotic
enough to sacrifice interest aud the “best policy” and
boldly avow their true sentiments, that I cannot re
frain from expressing my admiration for the spirit
with which you maintain your opinions,
“Nilica Rivers.”
