Funny.—It seems, from what we
have heard, that our new Internal
Revenue Assessor, Dr. Carter, is hav
ing some trouble with the freedmen,
on account of his title “Doctor;” they
thinking, as a matter of course, that
ho was sent by the government to
erne all their ills, as well as to assess
Revenue Taxes. Numerous sable in
valids have called on him for medi
cines, which they thought he dis
pensed through the benificence of
“Uncle Samivil.” When the Doctor
informed them that he was not sent
for the purpose of “healing,” the sa- bro<ld street,
bles only grew more incessant in
their demands for “physic,” and some
were successful in obtaining it. This
is, what we consider a good joke on
Or. Carter; and as such he has doub!
less taken it, probably, thinking it
rather too practical

j decidedly the favorite remedy for chills
and fever, dumb agne and other diseases
of a malarious origin, in the city of Sa
vannah where it is prepared. The prin
cipal druggists of the city would as much
think of doing witbont castor oil in
their stores as to be without this popu
lar (and deservedly so) remedy. It is a
vegetable preparation free from delete
rious drugs and acts as a tonic npon the
entire system, thereby invigorating the
system so much so as to enable it to
throw off disease. Pyrafnge does not
nauseate or sicken the patient and can
be taken by the most delicate persons
without fear. It should always be at
hand as chills and fever creep npon ns
so stealtliily that we are not aware of its
approach until it is upon us. A word
to the wise is sufficient. tf

I must thank yon far sending the case of Solomons’
Bitters in place of the kind I ordered.. I never saw
anything work ss well os they do. My wife has been
a great sufferer from dyspepsia, and is sometimes so
debilitated that she con scarcely stand. A few bottles
of these bitters have almost effected a cure. I also
gave it to my children and they ore keeping weU.
You know this low country tells bard on the consti
