SATURDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 3KrH, 1W69.
Camilla an«l Cutl»lM*rl H- It-
The Tliomnsville Enterprise gives the
names of the Directors of this proposed
road, which we copy, viz:
Col. James L. Seward, of 'lliomas-
viHe, has been elected President of the
Camilla and Cnthliert Railroad, and
Captain W. L. Walthonr Secretary and
Tcsasuser, and A. Ii- Haines Assistant*
The following gentlemen are the Direc
tors: Mr. Joseph Sculleh, General A. H.
Colquitt, Major W. D. Williams, of
Baker county; Captain L. W. Walthonr,
Col. W. M. McLendon, Captain T. C.
Lyons and James L. Seward, of Thom-
asville.
No one can, for a moment, doubt the
injurious effects of this road, when
built, upon the future prosperity of
Bainbridge, provided the Bainbridge,
Cutbbert and Columbus Railroad is not
completed in time to establish the
through route via Bainbridge before the
Camilla line is finished. The citizens
of Bainbridge have not taken that inter
est in ihe B., C. and C. Railroad its
importance demands, and by delaying
decisive action in the premises, they
have periled more of their^fmaMV
..jo.-d fold than was necessary to in- '
sure the immediate success of the enter
prise, thereby plucing our city in
a position to defy all successful
competition. But it is not yet too
late. Proper efforts now may redeem
our past indifference, and secure a boon
that is about to be wrested from us, and
by parties who know what, they are
about. The Camilla enterprise has no
State aid, aud may be delayed until an
other season for the want of the requi
site means. It is no trifling matter, in
times like these, to construct a railroad,
and but few counties are able, without
assistance from some quarter, to run a
road through its limits. The B., C. and
C. Railroad, with its $12,000 per mile of
State aid, ettn be built, and that at once,
provided the people take hold of it in
the right spirit, and determine to co
operate with the President and Directory
in their efforts to place the road under
contract to Cutbbert by the first of De
cember proximo. Wha't say the people
of Decatur and Miller counties, and
the merchants and business men of
Bainbridge ? Can you refuse to do your
duty wheu you have so much involved ?
We shall see.
The Dem^craiic I’arlf.
We feel, says the LaG range Reporter,
that we cannot too urgently insist upon
the importance of the perfect organiza
tion of the Democratic party in the
South—especially in Georgia. The late
elections in Pennsylvania and Ohio
should give ns encouragement. In those
States the Republican majorities have
been greatly reduced; and as soon as we
can get rid of military domination in the
South, Radicalism will no longer hare
an abiding place among us. The prond
position of the Democratic party in
Georgia to-day is the resnlt of well or
ganized efforts and discipline among ns.
The power that the opposite party n»w
holds in the State is the result of mili
tary despotism and the most outrageous
frauds npon the rights of the people by
Federal hirelings and Fed ?r*l bayonets.
These removed, the Radical party could
carry scarcely a single county in the
State, an evidence of which we have in
the reeent municipal election in Savan
nah, where the negroes out registered
the whites nesrly or qnite two lo one,
and who were two years ago under the
most perfect Radical discipline. The
Democratic party carried that election
overwhelmingly.
Theie are a few weak-kneed Demo
crats, it may be, who are ready to yield
because forsooth we have not entirely
succeeded in the£ottf,h. JThey seem to
-fOVget tJmTSf.Iwv h intresses with
every election, and that we have to lmt-
tie against the power of Federal patron
age, controlled by a party well discip
lined and unscrupulous. The time i»
not far distant when we shall force that
party of corruption to yield to the clam
ors of the people for reform in the msm-
ag-nent of our governmental affairs.—
The Democratic party is the only organ
ized party that promises success in the
restoration of civil aud political liberty,
Indeed, there are but two parties now
If the Democratic party, with its long
prestige aud formidable organization
cannot restore the Government to its
original purity, then we can look to no
new organization to do it. Let us hold
on to it.

The Charter of the B., C. and C.
Railroad.
The last issue of the Thomasville En
terprise represents the editor of that
paper us perplexed about the validity oi
the Charter of the Bainbridge, Cuthbert
and Columbus Railroad, he not being
able to find it in the published acts of
the late session of tbe Legislature, which
dispose* him to presume there is -some
thing wrong somewhere.
The editor is right in regard to the
publication of tbe bill chartering this
road being omitted from a pamphlet
copy of the acts of the last Legislature;
but he is wrong in supposing that a
mere inadvertency by an unauthorised
publisher can effect the validity of a
law passed by tbe Legislature, aud se
curing the tacit endorsement of “the
Governor.”
We have seen a certified copy of the
Charter, signed by tiie Secretary of
State, and sealed with the Great Seal
Captain Bruton has a copy thus endors
ed, and Col. Tnmiin, of Cuthbert, like
wise. The editor of the Enterprise can
satisfy himself by addressing a note to
the Secretary of State. We are not pre
pared, this week, in the abseuce of the
•only person in the city conversant with
the matter, to give the facts in the cose,
t>*t hope to be able to do so in our next
issue.
Revival at Mount Zion Chubch De
catur county.—Tlie 4th Quarterly
Conference, for Spring Creek Mission
was-held at Mount Zion Church, on
Saturday the ICth inst. The busi
ness qf the Conference was unimpor
tant, but tbe meeting connected with.
it, which was continued until
Sunday night the 24th, was a most
excellent one. The Pastor was resist
ed on Sunday, the 17th, by Rev. Geo.
B. Swann, of Blakely; aud during the
entire meeting, excepting only Sun
day, the last day, by Rev. D. 0. Stan
ley, Pastor of the Colquitt Circuit.
The meeting resulted in the accession
of seventeen adults to the member
ship of the rhurCi ; and, perhaps,
twenty or more persons were conven
ed. The weather becoming inclem
ent towards the close of tbe meeting,
rendered it impossible to ascertain
the exact number who profe*sed con
version. A remarkable feature of the
meeting was the absence of boister
ous excitement, yet the feeling was
deep, and the enjoyment real. Mount
Zi< n Church is now one of tbe best
churches in the connty.
Brunswick.—Should the people con
tinue flocking to Brunswick, Ga., dur
ing tbe next six months as they have
during tbe lust, Brunswick will soon be
tbe moNt densely populated town on
fbe Americas contrsest; srsd the ques
tion is: bow are the people to live and
lodge ? We are not going there our
selves to domicile before next winter, if
then, strange as this declaration may
appear to the thousands who are impa
tient at the low speed of the locomotive
in their anxiety to reach Brnusw iek
where they expect to make a fortune
“in no tune,” but bote is a question they
have newer once thought of.
Geobqe Francis Train.— This noto
rious individual has come out on the
Byrou-Stowe controversy. He says:
‘Divorces and such things arise on
account of money matters. Harriet is
all wroug. She struck for fame and
got infamy. Since her fate, I have
stopped my book proving that George
Washington was the mother of several
children by his aunt.”
