in general, will be taught, to those who design
entering into Mercantile line, it is important to
have a knowledge of accounts, Ac. A limited
number of pupils will be taken. Terms will be
moderate. Further particulars made known on

NOTICE TO WAREHOUSEMEN.
Section ninety-third.—No cotton shall
be weighed in the city of Augusta, except at a
warehouse, and all keepers of warehouses, as well
as their assistants, shall, before they commence the
business of weighing cotton, appear before some
member of the City Council, and take and sub
scribe the following oath: “I do solcmniy swear (or
affirm) that I will to the best of my judgment and
ability, correctly weigh or caused to be weighed all
cotton brought to the warehouse where I officiate
for the purpose of being weighed, and will make a
reasonable deduction tor wet, if in my judgment
any should be made on that account, and make or
cause to be made a fair return of the weight to the
person entitled to receive the same,” which oath,
when taken, shall be deposited with the Clerk of
Council; and all and every person or persons who
may offend against the provisions of this section,
ball be subject to a fine not exceeding S2OO for,
each offence, and in all cases where any warehouse
keeper or assistant shall fail or neglect to take the
said oath, or to file the same with the Clerk, the
said warehouse keeper shall bo held and deemed the
offender, and be liable for the penalty; and it shall
be the right and privilege of any purchaser of cot
ton in any warehouse or store, to have the same
delivered to him at actual weight thereof at the
time of sale, to be ascertained by weighing; and
each and every vender of cotton or keeeper of a
warehouse or store, who shall refase te deliver such
cotton by actual weight, shall be fined in a sum not
exceeding one hundred dollars for each offence.
From and after the 17th inst., the above Section
of the General Ordinance will be rigidly enforced.

FOR SALE.
THE undersigned wishing to lemove farther
South, offers for sale the FARM on which he
resides, situated on the Appalachee river, seven
miles cast of and on the road leading from Law- ;
rencevillc to Jefferson, containing four hundred ;
and fifteen acres, principally Oak and Hiekcrry
land. There are about seventy acres under fence; 1
about forty of which is in cultivation, there is six
teen acres oi prime bottom land in cultivation, and
I about the same quantity uncleared. The bottom
land, will produce from thirty to fifty bushels ot
I Corn per acre; there is on the promises a new com

Saw and Grist Mill, all in geod order, having been
I built about three years. There is attached to the
place, a prime site for a small Merchant Mill; a

larly, is noted for health and pure, bracing air, the

The Secretary's office will be opened at Augus
ta, on the Ist of October, for the purpose of receiv
ing entries.
Entries ofLive Stock, or any other articles, may
be forwarded to “ Secretary of Southeru Central
Agricultural Society, Augusta, Georgia.” per mail,
any time alter first of October. All articles thus
forwarded, should be carefully labelled the with ow
ner’s name and residence..
Miscellaneous Articles should he on the Fair
Grounds as early as Saturday, Oct. 15 ; hut ani
mais may be brought forward at anytime previous
to 9 A. M., on Tuesday, October 18.
All articles intended for exhibition only, will bo
transported to and from the Fair, by the different
Railroads, free of charge, and visitors to the Ex
hibition will only be required to pay one fare go
ing and returning. This arrangement will com
mence on the 12th, and end on the 22d of October
—thus allowing ample time for the transfer of all
stock and articles of every description to and from
the Show Grounds- The rates of board at the dif
ferent Hotels, and also Hack and Omnibus hire,are
fixed at a certain standard, from which there can
be no deviation, and nothing will bo left undone
on the part of the Society or Committee of Ar
rangements, to promote the comfort and enjoyment
of visitors and strangers.
All persons having business with the Society, or
wishing information, not here furnished, will ad
dress the Secretary, after the first of October, at
Augusta, Ga.

“ With the consent of the Board of Trustees,
I placed the Institute under the charge of a lady,
well tried and well know, MissM. M. BUELL, and
invited the Rev. RUFUS M, WHITE, who had
just at that moment, resigned the charae of St.
Johns Church, to accept the Rectorship of the
Institute. These appointments, together with the
continuance of the Rev. Mr BRAGG, at the In
stitute, should give par ents every confidence that
such as the school has heretofore been, suet will it
be hereafter. I commend is most heartily to the
Diocese, assuring it, that the school has never been
in finer condition, and praying it to use every exer
