I re at Trotting at Union Course, L. I—La- B dy Suffolk in the Field Again. B There was some rare sport at the Union B'oirseyesterday, in trie way of trotiing match several celebrated horses. The day las fine, and quite a large concourse of persons e present to witness the contests. The ii st race was a match for sl,oo# mile -ats. best three in five, to wagons, between the mare Lady Collins and s. g. Reindeer, of iVilliainsburg. The former was driven by H.- Woodruff, and the latter by J. Woodruff. Remleer was the lavorite, SIOO to S7O, from the sjrnmencenient, but was finally beaten the three Might heats in secession. Time — 2:41,2:43, i <2° The result disappointed many of the by- Jaaiien. as they were confident of Reindeer be ini superior to Lady r ollins in point of speed. The match for SSOO, miles heat, three in five, K :,veeri Dubois Coit and b. g. Don, was to have come off next in order, but the former paid for fe.tmid the enterer of the colt received forfeit. The exciting tret was the second contest be tween the old favorite mare Lady Suffolk, and toe handsome horse Pet, for a purse of SSOO, nu e beats, three in five, to wagons. Some two o: three weeks has elapsed sinde these two hor sastrotted a very ciose match, which was won by Pet,and considerable interest was manifested in the result; Suffolk was the favorite and every body seems to express a desire that she would yin the i ace. The first heat was sharply con tested, and the horses were often neck and neck on the back stretch. The first quarter-pole was made in time 41 j seconds, and the halfmile pole |J( Corning down the homeward side of the trick Suffolk gradually left Pet, aud came in taka length ahead, amid enthusiastic cheering. Stand Heat.— Olds were now offered on Suffolk, and some tew bets were made. . They ■started in good style, and before reaching the first quarter. Pet‘■broke,''’ and Lady Suffolk gain id over two lengths. Time at the quarter-pole, 35 J sec. When within a few feet of the half mile pole Suffolk broke, and Pet passed her. kept the lead, and came to the stand only about a length in advance. The time made at the se cond quarter was 1:1 7J. Third Heat.— The heat now stood a tie, and handsome trotting that has been witnessed on Long Island this Fall was displayed by each cl the fine steeds. They were side by side for twee quarters of a mile, and the time made at tiie quarter mile pole was 39 seconds, at the half jnie pole 1:17. They came down the home st/etcii tight and tight, and Pet merely won the teat by the length of a neck. This was all ow in'to the superior driving of Hiram Woodruff, v-na entered Pet. The old mare was urged to tr- lull extent by Harry Jones. Fourth Heat. — f bis was the trial heat, and tv*n horses did their best. Pet was easy in band.and won it by a length.
