AIHUISTA, GA.
Burke Countv — Health, Crops, &c. —ln
the News of Wednesday last, we published a
paragraph from the Sandersville Georgian, in
which it was stated that a disease had broken out
there, somewhat resembling Asiatic cholera, and
that a terrible mortality had resulted from it.
We expressed our doubts ol the truth of the re
port at the time, and we were gratified to be
enabled yesterday in laying before our readers
the statistics of the property of the county, kindly
furnished by a correspondent at Milien, to add
his confirmatory proof of the correctness of our
own opinion. A gentleman who returned to the
city, from a visit to Old Burke, on Sunday even
ing, iniorms us that in a large section of the
county from which he had heard, the accounts of
general healthfulness were universal. The crops,
says our informant, were never better. The corn
crop presents the most flattering prospects of an
abundant yield. The cotton crop, which was so
cut down by the late spring frosts as to
Aequire replanting, has obtained an excellent
stand and bids fair fora profitable yield.
The only cases of sickness of which he heard
were those on a plantation on Briar Creek, where
eleven out ol seventy negroes died. The deaths
were said to have been produced by dysentery,
caused by a too liberal i dulgence in eating now
fruit. It v.as probably these cases which gave
rise to the report in the Central Georgian.—

The Late John Bailey. —A notice of the
death of our much esteemed fellow-citizen, John
Bailey, Esq., was inadvertently omitted in our
last issue. Although this may seem a tardy tri
bute to uis memory, we cannot refrain from thus
briefly expressing our sorrow over him who has
been taken away and our sympathy for those
who are most afflicted by the bereavment. Judge
Bailey was an old resident of our county—had
represented us in the State Legislature-—had act
ed as a Justice of our Inferior Court—and in all
the relations in which we knew him, both pri
vate and public, he proved himself worthy of
honor and respect. He was simple in his tastes
—-jovial in tamper, cordial in manner—and take
him in all and ail, was one of the finest speci
mens of the hale, hearty, and hospitable old
Georgia farmer, whom we ever lemember to
have seen. The writer of this notice knew him
well, and feels a melancholy satisfaction in offer
ing this public tiibute of respect to an old and
valued friend. He was *

Ihk Weather, Crops, &c.—Notwithstand
ing the present season has been the warmest we
remember ever to have experienced, we believe
that the health ot our State generally will com
pare most iavorably with any previous year.—
For the past week, our immediate section has
been ' isited with delighful showers and an un
usual quantity of lightning, which have had the
effect to purify and cool the atmosphere, so that
we breathe comparatively free again.
Accounts from all quarters—since the late
rains—show a decided improvement in the state
of the crops, giving a promise ot at least an aver
age yield both of corn and cotton—the latter be
ing thus far measurably tree from the disasters to
which it is ordinarily subject. —Columbus Ene/ui
rer t Is/ inst.
The Weather, (always a fruitful theme tor
newspaper paragraphs) has been more favorable
in the last past tew days. A fine rain cooled
the earth and atmosphere, and gentle breezes aid
to fan away the intense heat.
The Growing Crops which were suffering so
badly during the continued dry hot spell, were
much revived by the rain, and if another one or
two plentiful showers would tall, the corn would
he matured, and the crop at least an average
one.
The health of Chattanoega continues quite
fair. Indeed we hear of no prevailing epidemic
in the city or surrounding country. The re
port early started by interested or ignorant per
sons abroad, that theie was Cholera here, was
untrue, as we before repeatedly said, and up to
this time, we hear of no disease about, that could
be torture : into Cholera.
The Lookout Mountain is receiving a liberal
share ol visitors. A trip up last week, we found
many strangers, some invalids, some pleasure
seekers, enjoying tire advantages of the cool
breezes and fine atmosphere on the mountain.
Col. Ashburn, the worthy proprietor of the
Mountain House, was up to his elbows in busi
ness, but being determined to please, and a good
manager, he was rendering general satisfaction.
Those who may visit the mountain will always
find themselves at home, w hen they trust to the
Col’s, accommodations.
From our city, there is always at this season
of the year many visitors to Lookout. Quite a
number of our citizens have taken their families
up to remain during the Summer—some have
built houses and others are boarding. They are
enjoying fine health and spirits. The short dis
tance from the city to tne summit, and the supe
rior road, enables the business men to come
down every morning and return in the evening.
The time is coming, when the Lookout will at
tract more visitors than any watering place in
the country.— Chattanooga Gazette , Ist inst.

DENNIS’ ANTI-SPASMODIC TINCTURE.
FOR all sudden and dangerous attacks of Dis
ease, such as Fits or Convulsions; Apoplexy,
Lock-Jaw; Cramp Colic; Cholera; Pneumonia;
Hydrophobia; Bite of Snakes, and other dangor
ous cases of Poisons, and all other diseases in
which immediate action is necessary.
This Tincture produces its effect by equalizing
the circulation of the Blood, and by relieving in
flammation. Its effect in relieving inflammation,
either internal or external, makes it useful in a
groat variety of diseases.
For Fever and Ague, or Chills, it is almost an
infallible remedy.
Diluted with syrup or honey, it is useful for
Colds and all affections of the Lungs, arising from
colds, such as Cough, Croup, Asthma, Difficulty in
Breathing, Ac.
As an external remedy, in fresh Cuts, Wounds,
Bruises, Burns, Scalds, Bite of Snakes, Sting of
Bees, or Bite of poisonous Insects, it prevents in
flammation, and greatly relieves the soroness.
I sed as a wash in eruptive diseases, such as
Scald Head, Ringworm, or diseases which cause an
itching sensation upon the skin, it soon produces a
healthy action. When thus used, the Georgia Sar
saparilla should bo taken to purify the blood.
For Horses, and other animals, this article will
be found invaluable for Bruises, Cuts, Galls, Fistu
la, Ac. For Colic, and various other dangerous
attacks, it rarely fails to cure even the worst cases.
This is the most active medicine in use, yet it
may bo given without danger of injury. It seldom
fails, in dangerous cases, to cause an immediate re
action in the system. After i; has caused a reac
tion, it may bo followed by such other medicines
as the situation of ihe patient may indicate.

YELLOW-DOCK AND SARSAPARILLA,
IS now put up in the largest sized bottles, and is ac
knowledged to be the best Sarsaparilla made, as is
certified by the wonderful cures it has. performed, the
original copies of which are in the possession of the
proprietor. Remember, this is the only true and ori
ginal article.
Scrofula,Syphilis, Mercifrial Complaints, Cancer, Gan
grene, Rheumatism, gjid a vast variety of other dis
eases, are speedily and perfectly cured by the use of
this medicine.
REAR THE FOLLOWING CERTIFCATE.
Tallapoosa County, Ala., Jan. 2,1852.
Dear Sir: —l send you this to certify to you that
your Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla has per
formed one of the most wonderful cures on me that
has ever been effected on man.
I have been afflicted for forty vears with eruptions
on my legs and feet; in IS4B they'got so bad that i had
to go on crutches, and in 1849 I had one leg amputated
above the knee. In about nine months after my other
leg broke out in large eating and running sores from
my knee to my foot, and discharged a great deal of of
fensive matter. My groin also broke out in large biles,
which discharged much offensive matter, and at the
same time my left baud broke out in large running
sores nearly to my elbow.
l'he misery that 1 have suffered for the last two years
I cannot describe to you. I was in such agony that I
never rested day or night.
In October last my son brought me one of your bot
tle wrappers ; I read it, and found record of some won
derful cures performed by your “ Extract of Yellow
1 ock and Sarsaparilla. I sent and got two bottles of
i®, and commenced taking it. In two weeks, to my
great astonishment, my sores all became easy, and I
could sleep all night, a thing I had not done for two
years. When I had taken six bottles, my sores had
enarly all healed. My sores got well as if by enchant
ment. I have now used, in all, eight bottles of your
* Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla, and I now
consider myself well.
I entreat all of the afflicted to try this Medicine, for
believe it will cure any known disease in the world.
Lay aside all prejudice and just try it, and proc aim its
great worth to suffering mankind', and entreat them to
take it, for it will curethem.
My case is well known in a large portion of South
Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, and if any should doubt
the above cure, I invite them to call on me, and I will
show them the scars. I can be found in Tallapoosa
County, Alabama, one mile from Stoe's Ferry.
_ „ RENAJATI HUGHES.
I he Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla is peculiarly adap
ted for females of delicate health, resulting frem Ir
regularities of menstrual discharges, and other diseases
peculiar to their sex. The proprietor has in his posses
sion a great number of certificates of cures performed
of the above description. We assure the afflicted, that
a bottle or two of Dr. Guysott's Extract of Yellow
Dock and Sarsaparilla will at once regulate those diffi
culties and renew the natural energies.
K7* Put up in quart bottles.—Price $1 per bottle.

HE PROPRIETOR of this Medicine will state,
