FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight Tariffs !
Office of the F. shion Line, )
Augusta, April 15,1854. j
THE subscriber would respectfully call the at
tention of the Mtrcbasta throughout Georgia,
Tennessee. Alabama, and South Carolina, to the
Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and cheap
route for the transportation of their Merchandise.
Bv comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
those of the South Carolina, and Centra', and
Wayne boro' Railroads itwill show a rosultin fa
vor of this route of from 30 to 50 per cent., gener
aliy, and in some instances a greater per centage.
By this route a merchant receives eaco shipment
of his Goods together; they are not retailed to
him as they generally aro l>y Railroads connecting
wiih thesoaboaid, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
in addition to tho present force of this line, an
other new Boat, of light draught of water, will be
added during the coming summer. These boats
will leave Savannah after the discharge of the
New York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or
three times a week, delivering those Goods at this
point in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12$ per cent, will be allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the sea board should be directed
to M A. Cohen, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
Jno. A. Moore, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as
well as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers gene
rally„on the line of Railroads through Georgia and
Tennessee, who ship to Savannah and Northern
markets, this route offers very favorable induce
ments.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
rors, bills of lading should be forwardod to M. A.
Cohen, at Savannah, lor all goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE.
In case of low river, all goods consigned to this
line, will be forwarded by Central, and connecting
Railroads. ajprills

MORE than 500 persons in the city of Richmond,

CARTER’S SPANISH MIXTURE.
The great Sprirg Medicine and Purifier of the Blood
is now used by hundreds of grateful patients, who tes

greatest of all medicines. Carter’s Spanish Mixture.
Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Scrofula, Eruptions on the
Skin. Liver Disease, Fevers, Ulcers, Old Sores. Affections
of the Kidneys, Diseases of the Throat, Female Com
plaints, Pains and Aching of the Bones and Joints, are
speedily put to flight by using this great and inestima
ble remedy.
For all diseases of the Blood, nothing has yet been
found to compare with it. It cleanses the system of
all impurities, acts gently and efficiently on the Liver
and Kidneys, strengthens the Digestion, gives tone to
the Stomach, makes the Skin clear and healthy, and
restores the Constitution, enfeebled by disease or bro
ben down by the excesses of youth, to its pristine vigor
and strength.
For the Ladies, it is incomparably better than all the
cosmostics ever used. A few doses of Carter’s Spanish
Mixture will remove all sallowness of complexion,
bring the roses mantling to the cheek, give elasticity to
the step, and improve the general health in a remarka
ble degree, beyond all the medicines ever heard of.
A large number of certificates of remarkable cures

Debility, Disease of the Kidneys, &c.
H. W. Chaney, Millersburg, Ky., October 10, 1852,
said : “ Having -old your Bitters some time, I fiud it
has given satisfaction in every instance that has come
under my notice.”
Nelson & Edwards, Salvisa. Ky., June 2d, 1862, said :
“ We rejoice to inform you that this justly celebrated
medicine has fully maintained the exalted reputation
which has beau given it, and having tested its virtues
we unhesitatingly say it eminent y deserves it.”
J. T. & J. W. Berry, Uniontown, Ky., July 21, 1852,
said: “We have heard of many cures performed by
the use of Dr. Hoofl&nd's German Bitters, and believe
it to be a valuable medicine.”
J. Grant, Irvine, Ky., Juno 26,1852, said : “ We have
succeeded in introaucing your Hoofland Bitters; phy
sicians and others purchase them by the half dozen and
dozen.”
Dr. P. Fatio Sc Bro., Knoxville, Tenn., April 9,1851,
said : “ Your Bitters are now selling very fast, and eve
ry person that has used it, so far as we havo been able
to learn, has been benefitted.”

SSOO CHALLENGE.
HOBENSACK’S WORM SYRUP All article
founded upon Scientific Principles, compound
ed with purely Vegetable substances, being per
fectly safe when taken, and has never boon known
to fail in curing tho most obstinate case. Worms
can never exist when this remedy is once used,
from iho fact that it not only destroys them but
removes all tho slime and mucus which may re
main.
THE TAPE WORM.
This worm is the most difficult one to destroy of
all that inhabit the human body. It grows to an
almost indefinite length, and becoming so coiled
and fastened in the intestines and stomach as to
produce fits, St. Vitus’ Dance, &c., which is the
cause of many going to the grave, tot believing
that these complaints have their origin from the
Tape Worm; consequently they do not uso the
proper medicines for -their disease. To those who
are afflicted with this awful foe to health, I recom
mend the uso of my Worm Syrup, and LivcrjPills,
the Syrup to be taken in doses of two tablespoon
fuls threo times a day, then take from five to eight
of my Livor Pills, to dislodge and pass the worm.
By strictly following these directions, the most ob
stinate cases of Tapo Worm can bo speedily cured.
ROUND OR STOMACH WORM.
This worm is usually found in the small intes
tines, and is the worm most common to children,
yet it is not entirely confined to them, as adults
have frequently been known to suffer with them.
The Symptoms most prominent while affected with
this worm, are hardness and fullness of the belly,
slimy stools, looseness of the bowels, picking at the
nose, a blueish streak under the eyes, <fcc. If you
or any of your children havo any of the above
symptoms, HOBENSACK’S WORM SYRUP can
safely be depended upon—by using it you have a
certain, safe, and speedy cure; and if after using
t according to the directions, the patient is not
restored to health, and tho worms thoroughly era
dicated from the system, you can rest assured there
is no remedy beyond tho grave, as lor fail, there is
no such word as fail with those who use my Worm
Syrup.
ASCARIDES OR SMALL THREAD WORMS
These worms, to which the human system is lia
ble, are the most troublesme of all others. They
are generally, to be fouudin the rectum, and if al
lowed to remain, from the irritation they produce,
lay tho foundation for serious disorders, such as
inflammation of tho bowels, and other derange
ments of the stomach. The best and safest medi
cine that can be used is HOBEN SACK’S WORM
BYRUP. Such is the astonishing power of my
medicines over Aecaradics, that I defy any one to
produce a case where my Worm Syrup and Liver
Pills are recommended to be usod they will not cure,
All that is necessary is to use tho Syrup in accord
ance with directions on each bottle, and in case a
gentle purgative is required in order to allay tne
irritation tney produce, the Livor Pills by their
sympathizing action and healthy operation upon
the bowels, is the most pleasant medicine that can
be taken.

BEWARE OF IMITATIONS.
ASK for HAMPTON S VEftETABLE TINCTURE.
The many cures made by this pleasant and safe
remedy may induce counterfeiting.
A medicine must have merit, and great merit too, to
stand the test of public opinion. No art of puffing can
galvanize a worthless article, so as to keep it up as a
good medicine, if it be not really so.
A good medicine will live, become popula. and ex
tend its sales year after year, in spite of opposition.
The people readily find out its virtues, and the fame of
them passes from mouth to mouth with more rapidity
than newspapers can spread it. A living witness testi
fying to the cure a medicine has made for him, is of
far more service than any newspaper advertising.
In proof of what we say above, we refer you to

AFFLICTED READ!
PHILADELPHIA MEDICAL llOCSE—Established 20
years ago by Dr. Kinkelin, corner of Third and
Union Streets, between Spruce and Pine, Philadelphia.
Invalids are apprised that Dr. Kinkelin confines his
practice to a particular branch of medicine, which en
gages his undivided attention. He cautions the unfor
tunate against the abuse of mercury ; thousands are
annually mercurialized out of life. Recent affections
are promptly extinguished.
Twenty years of experience in the treatment of a
class of diseases hitherto neglected and imperfectly un
derstood, kasenebl d Dr. Kinkelin. (author of a work
on Self Preservation.) ro prove that nine tenths of the
causes of nervous debility, local and constitutional
weakness, mental and physical suffering, are traceable
to certain habits, forming 'ho most secret yet deadly
and fatal springs of domestic misery and premature
mortality.
Take Particular Notice. —There is an evil habit some
times indulged in by boys, in solitude, often growing
up with them to manhood, and which, if not reformed
in due time, not only begets serious oostacles to matri
monial happiness, but gives rise to a series of protraet
ted, insidious, and devastating affections, Few of those
who give way to this ptrnicioua practice are aware of
the consequences, until they find the nervcus system
shattered, leel strange and unaccountable feelings, and
vague fears in the mind.
The unfortunate thus affected becomes feeble, is una
ble to labor with accustomed vigor, or to apply his
mind to study ; his step is tardy and weak, he is dull,
irresolute, and engages in his sport with less energy
than usual.
If he emancipate himself before the practice has
done its worst, and enter matrimony, his marriage is
unfruitful, and his sense tells him that this is caused by
his early follies. These are considerations which should
awaken tho attention of those similarly situated,
Marriage requires the fulfilment of several condi
tions, in order that it may be really the cause of mutu
al happiness. Could the veil which covers the origin
of domestic wretchedness be raised, and its true source
in every instance disclosed—in how many could it be
traced to physical disqualifications and their attendant
disappointments! Apply then while it is yet time, in
order to have your unstrung and relaxed organization
rebraced, revivified and strengthened.
Remember, he who places nimself under Dr. Hinke
lin’a treatment may religiously confide in his honor as
a gentleman, and rely upon the assurance, that the se
crets of Dr. K.s patients will never be disclosed.
Young man—lot no false modesty* deter you from
mzking your case known to one who, from education
and respectability, can certainly befriend you.
Two many think they will conceal the secret in their
own hearts, and cure themselves. Alas! how often is
this a fatal delusion, and how many a promising young
man, who might have been an ornament to society,
has faded from the earth.
Strictures of the urethra are rapidly removed bv the
application of a new therapeutical ageht, used only by
Dr. K Weakness and constitutional debility promptly
cured, and full vigor restored.
Country Invalids can have (by stating their case ex
plicitly, together with all their symptoms, per letter,
enclosing a remittance) Dr. K.’s medicine, appropriated
accordingly.

ROGER S LIVERWORT AND TAR.
FOR the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, Influenza,
Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood, and all oth
er Lung Complaints tending to Consumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over our coun
try. The numerous letters we receive from our vari
ous agonts, informing us of cures effected in their im
mediate neighborhoods, warrant us in saying it is one
of the best, it not the very best, Cough Medicine now
before the public. It almost invariably relieves, and
not unfrequently cures the very worse cases When all
other Cough preparations have failed, this has relieved
the patient, as Druggists, dealers'in Medicines, and
Physicians can testify. Ask the Agent in your nearest
town, what has been his experience of the effects of
this medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
of time lie will tell you
IT IS THE BEST MEDICINE EXTANT.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we have
received lately, regarding the virtues of this medicine.
Dr. S. S. Osliu, of Knoxville. Ga., says : “ I have been
using your Liverwort and Tar very extensive!y in my
practice for three years past, and it is with pleasure I
state my belief in its superiority over ail other articles
with which 1 am acquainted, for which it is recom
mended.”
Messrs Fitzgerald Sc Benners, writing fiora Waynes
ville, N. C , says: “ The Liverwort and Tar is becoming
daily more popular in this Country, and wo think just
ly so. All who have tried it speak in commendable
terras of it. and say it is very beneficial in alleviating
the complaints for which it is recommended."
Our Agent in Pickens District, 8. C , Mr. S. R. McFall
assures us “that he uses it with great benefit in his own
family, and recommends it to his neighbors.” lie gives
an instance of a Nogro woman, in his vicinity, who had
been suffering with disease of the Lungs for years, at
tended with severe Cough, who was relieved bv the
Liverwort and Tar. J

M PILES.
FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A
FAMILY PHYSIC.
Ti:Eur. has long existed a publie demand for at
effective purgative pill which could be relied on a;
sure and perfectly safe in its operation. This has
been prepared to meet that demand, and an extern
-live trial of its virtues has conclusively shown will
what success it accomplishes the purpose designed
It is easy to make a physical pill, but not easy tc
make the best of all piLs one which should liav<
none of the objections, but all the advantages, of
every other. 'Jthis has been attempted here, ant
with what success we would respectfully submit t(
the public decision. It has been unfortunate foi
the patient hitherto that almost every purgative
medicine is acrimonious and irritating to the bow
els. This is not. Many of them produce so mucl
griping pain and revulsion in the system as to mon
than counterbalance the good to be derived froir
them. These pills produce no irritation or pain
unless it arise from a previously existing obstruc
tion or derangement in the bowels. Being purel)
vegetable, no harm can arise from their use in am
quantity ; but it is better that any medicine shoulc
be taken judiciously. Minute directions for theii
use in the several diseases to which they are ap
plicable are given on the box. Among the com
plaints which have been speedily cured by them, w<
mav mention Liver Complaint, in its various forms
of Jaundice, Indigestion, Languor and Loss of Ap
petite, Listlessness, Irritability, Bilious Headache
Bilious Fever, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side
and Loins ; for, in truth, all these are but tlie con
sequence of diseased action in the liver. As an
aperient, they afford prompt and sure relief in Cos
tiveness, Piles, Colic, Dysentery, Humors, Scrof
ula and Scurvy, Colds with soreness of the body
Ulcers and impurity of the blood; in short, any
and every case where a purgative is required.
They have also produced some singularly suc
cessful cures in Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsy, Gravel
Erysipelas, Palpitation -of the Heart, Pains in the
Back, Stomach, and Side. They should he freely
taken in the spring of the year, to purify the blooc
and prepare the system for the change of seasons.
An occasional dose stimulates the stomach and
bowels into healthy action, and restores the appe
tite and vigor. They purify the blood, and, by theii
stimulant action on the circulatory system, reno
vate the strength of the body, and restore tht
wasted or diseased energies of the whole organism.
Hence an occasional dose is advantageous, even
though no serious derangement exists; but un
necessary dosing should never be carried too far,
as every purgative medicine reduces the strength,
when taken to excess. The thousand cases in which
a physic is required fannot be enumerated here, bul
they suggest themselves to the reason of every
body; and it is confidently believed this pill wtU
answer a better purpose than any thing which h;n
hitherto been available to mankind. When then
virtues are once known, the public will no longe*
doubt what remedy to employ when in need <>l .-
cathartic medicine. Being sugar-wrapped they ?r
--pleasant to take, and being purely vegetable, n<
harm can arise from their use in any quantity.

HOBENSACK’S LIVER PILLS.
NO part of the system is more liable to disease
than the Liver, it being supplied with numer

by a mass of testimony which is perfectly irresistible.
The Elixir remedies, in all cases, the deplorable evils
arising from a misuse or abuse of the various organs

To persons of feeble muscular frame, or deficient iu v>
