FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight Tariffs !
Office us the Fashion Line, )
Augusta, April 15,1854. I
r fIHE subscriber would respectfully call the at-
X tention of the Merchants throughout Georgia,
Tennessoo, Alabama, and South Carolina, to the
Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and cheap
route for the transportation of their Merchandise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
those of the South Carolina, and Central, and
Wayne-boro' Railroads, it will show a result in fa
vor of this route ot from 30 to 50 per cent., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater per centage.
By this route a morebant receives each shipment
of his Goods together; they are not retailed to
him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with theseaboaid, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
In addition to the present foroe of this line, an
other now Boat, of light draught of water, will be
added during the coming summer. These boag»
will leave Savannah after the discharge of thß
New York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or
three times a week, delivering those Goods at this
point in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12$ per cent, will be allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the sea board should be directed
to M. A. Cohen, Savannah,
and produoe from the interior to
Jno. A. Moore, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as
well as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers gene
rally, on the line of Railroads through Georgia and
Tennessee, who ship to Savannah and Northern
markets, this route offers very favorable induce
ments.
To facilitate shipments, as well a£ to prevent er
rors, bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
Cohen, at Savannah, for all goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE.
In case of low river, all goods consigned to this
line, will be forwarded by Central, and connecting
Railroads. april!s

the lightest draft boats on the river, and a large
number of flats or barges, all in good condition, en
able them to offer facilities for promptness and

leaving each place every other day; and in case of
extreme low river, dofinite instructions will be giv
en their Agent in Savannah, to forward all goods to
their care byway of the Central, Augusta and
Waynesboro Railroads.
The Directors are determined te adhere to their
present very low rate of freights which are fully
one-half loss than the Railroads from the Seaboard.

marked, Iron Steamboat Company, or care of

CARTER’S SPANISH MIXTURE.
The great Sprit g Medicine and Purifier of the Blood
is now used by hundreds of grateful patients, who tes

greatest of all medicines. Carter’s Spanish Mixture.
Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Scrofula, Eruptions on the
Skin, Liver Disease, Fevers, Ulcers, Old Sores, Affections
of the Kidneys, Diseases of the Throat, Female Com
plaints, Pains and Aching of the Bones and Joints, are
speedily put to flight by using this great and inestima
ble remedy.
For all diseases of the Blood, nothing has yet been
found to compare with it. It cleanses the system of
all impurities, acts gently and efficiently on the Liver
and Kidneys, strengthens the Digestion, gives tone to
the Stomach, makes the Skin clear and healthy, and
restores the Constitution, enfeebled by disease or bro
ben down by the excesses of youth, to its pristine vigor
and strength.
For the Ladies, it is incomparably better than all the
cosmostics ever used. A few doses of Carter’s Spanish
Mixture will remove all sallowness of complexion,
bring the roses mantling to the cheek, give elasticity to
the step, and improve the general health in a remarka

A large number of certificates of remarkable cures
performed on persons residing in the city of Richmond,

said: “ Having-old your Bitters'some time, I find it
has given satisfaction in every instance that has come
under my notice.”
Nelson 5c Edwards, Salvisa, Ky., June 2d, 1852, said :
“We rejoice to inform you that this justly celebrated
medicine has fully maintained the exalted reputation
which has been given it, and having tested its virtues
we unhesitatingly say it eminent y deserves it.”
J. T. Si J W. Berry, Uuiontown, Ky., July 21, 1852,
said: “We have heard of many cures performed by
the use of Dr. Hoofland’s German Bitters, and believe
it to be a valuable medicine.”
J. Grant, Irvine, Ky., June 26,1852, said : “ We have
succeeded in introducing your Hoofiand Bitters; phy
sicians and others purchase them by the half dozen and
dozen.”
Dr. P. Fatio & Bro., Knoxville, Tenn., April 9,1851,
said : “ Your Bitters are now selling very fast, and eve
ry person that has used it, so far as we havo been able
to learn, has been beuefltted.”
These Bitters are entirely vegetable; they invigorate
and strengthen the system, never prostrates it, and can
be used for Infants as well as adults.

BEWARE OF IMITATIONS.
ASIC for HAMPTON'S VEGETABLE TINCTURE.
The many cures made by this pleasant and safe
remedy may induce counterfeiting.
A medicine must have merit, and great merit too, to
stand the test of public opinion. No art of puffing can
galvanize a worthless article, so as to keep it up as a
good medicine, if it be not really so.
A good medicine will live, become popular, and ex
tend its sales year after year, in spite of opposition.
The people readily find out its virtues, and the fame of
them passes, from mouth to mouth with more rapidity
than newspapers can spread it. A living witness testi
fying to the care a medicine has made for him, is of
far more service than any newspaper advertising.
In proof of what we say above, we refer you to
HAMPTON'S VEGETABLE TINCTURE. and its effects.

AFFLICTED RRAD!
Philadelphia medical house—Established 20
years ago by Dr. Kinkelin, corner of Third and
Union Streets, between Spruce and Pine, Philadelphia.
Invalids are apprised that Dr. Kinkelin confines his
practice to a particular branch of medicine, which en
gages his undivided attention. He cautions the unfor
tunate against the abuse of mercury ; thousands are
annually mercurialized out of life. Recent affections
are promptly extinguished.
Twenty years of experience in the treatment of a
class of diseases hitherto neglected and imperfectly un
derstood, has ene.bl d Dr. Kinkelin. (author of a work
on Self Preservation,) to prove that nine tenths of the
causes of nervous debility, local and constitutional
weakness, mental and physical suffering, are traceable
to certain habits, forming the most secret yet deadly
and fatal springs of domestic misery and premature
mortality.
Take Particular Notice. —There is au evil habit some
times indulged iu by boys, in solitude, often growing
up with them to manhood, and which, if not reformed
in due time, not only begets serious oostacles to matri
monial happiness, but gives rise to a series of protract
ted, insidious, and devastating affections. Few of those
who give way to this pernicious practice are aware of
the consequences, until they find the nervous system
shattered, feel strange and unaccountable feelings, and
vague fears in the mind.
The unfortunate thus affected becomes feeble, is una
ble to labor with accustomed vigor, or to apply his
mind to study; his step is tardy and weak, he is dull,
irresolute, and engages in his sport with less energy
than usual.
If he emancipate himself before the practice has
done its worst, and enter matrimony, his marriage is
unfruitful, and his sense tells him that this is caused by
his early follies. These are considerations which should
awaken the attention of those similarly situated,
Marriage requires the fulfilment of several condi
tions, in order that it may be really the cause of mutu
al happiness. Could the veil which covers the origin
of domestic wretchedness be raised, and its true source
in every instance disclosed—in how many could it be
traced to physical disqualifications and their attendant
disappointments! Apply then while it is yet time, in
order to have your unstrung and relaxed organization
rebraced 1 revivified and strengthened.
Remember, he who places himself under Dr. Kinke
lin's treatment may religiously confide in his honor as
a gentleman, and rely upon the assurance, that the se
crets of Dr. K.’s patients willjaever be disclosed.
Young man—let no false modesty deter you from
mzking your case knowu to one who, from education
and respectability, can certainly befriend you.
Two many think they will conceal the secret in their
own hearts, and cure themselves. Alas! how often is
this a fatal delusion, and how many a promising young
I man, who might have been an ornament to society,
has faded from the earth.
Strictures of the urethra are rapidly removed by the
application of a new therapeutical ageht, used only by
Dr. K Weakness and constitution:!.! debility promptly
cured, and full vigor restored.
Country Invalids can have (by stating their case ex
plicitly, together with all their symptoms, per letter,
enclosing a remittance) Dr. K.’s medicine, appropriated
accordingly.

Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood, and all oth
er Lung Complaints tending to Consumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over our coun
try. The numerous letters we receive from our vari
ous agents, informing us of cures effected in their im
mediate neighborhoods, warrant us in saying it is one
of the best, if not tlmvery best, Cough Medicine now
before the public. iFklmost invariably relieves, and
not cures the vory worse cases When all
other Cough preparations have failod, this has relieved

town, what has been his experience of the effects of
this medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
of time he will tell you
IT IS THE BEST MEDICINE EXTANT.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we have
received lately, regarding the virtues of this medicine.
Dr. S. S. Oslin, of Knoxville, Ga., says : “ I have been
using your Liverwort and Tar very extensively in my
practice for three years past, and it is with pleasure I
state my belief in its superiority over all other articles
with which I am acquainted, for which it is recom
mended.”
Messrs Fitzgerald & Benners, writing fiomWaynes
villo, N. 0., says : “ The Liverwort aud Tar is becoming
daily more popular in this Country, and we think just
ly so. All who have tried it speak in commendable
terms of it, and say it is very beneficial in alleviating
the complaints for which it is recommended .”
Our Agent in Pickens District, S. C., Mr. S. R. McFall,
assures us “ that he uses it with great benefit in his own
family, and recommends it to his neighbors.” He gives
an instance of a Nogro woman, in his vicinity, who had
been suffering with disease of tho Lungs for'years, at
tended with severe Cough, who was relieved by the
Liverwort and Tar.
Such are the good reports we hear of this Medicine
from all parts or the south. For a report of the sur
prising euros it has performed in the Western and
Northern aud Eastern States, we would invite the suf
eriug patient to read the pamphlet which accompanies
each bottlo. To all, wo say, havo hope, have hope!

Mm, PILES.
FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A
FAMILY PHYSIC.
There lias long existed a public demand for ai
effective purgative pill which could be relied on ai
sure and perfectly safe in its operation. This hat
been prepared to meet that demand, and an exton
sivc trial of its virtues has conclusively shown wit*
what success it accomplishes the purpose designed
It is easy to make a physical pill, but not easy t<
make the best of all pills one which should hav«
none of the objections, but all the advantages, oi
every other. This has been attempted here, ant
with what success we would respectfully submit t<
the public decision. It has been unfortunate toi
the patient hitherto that almost every pnrgatm
medicine is acrimonious and irritating to the bow
els. This is not. Many of them produce so muor
griping pain and revulsion in the system as to mor<
than counterbalance the good to be derived frors
them. These pills produce no irritation or pain
unless it arise from a previously existing obstruc
tion or derangement in the bowels. Being purelj
vegetable, no harm can arise from their use in anv
quantity ; but it is better that any medicine shouk
be taken judiciously. Minute directions for thefa
use in the several diseases to which thef arc ap
plicable are given on the box. Among the com
plaints which, have been speedily cured by them, wt
inav mention Liver Complaint, in its various forms
of Jaundice, Indigestion, Languor and Loss of Ap
petite, Listlessness, Irritability, Bilious Headache
Bilious Fever, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Sid*
and Loins; for, in truth, all these are but ,4he con
sequence of diseased action in the liver. As an
aperient, they afford prompt and sure relief in Cos
tivencss, Piles, Colic, Dysentery, Humors, Scrof
ula and Scurvy, Colds with soreness of the body.
Ulcers and impurity of the blood ; in short, any
and every case where a purgative is required.
They have also produced some singularly suc
cessful cures in Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsy, Gravel
Erysipelas, Palpitation of the Heart, Pains in the
Back. Stomach, and Side. They should be freely
taken in the spring of the year, to purify the blooc
and prepare the system for the change of seasons.
An occasional dose stimulates the stomabh and
bowels into healthy action, and restores the appe
tite and vigor. They purify the blood, and, by thou
stimulant action on the circulatory system, reno
vate the strength of u,'ie body, and restore thc
wasted or diseased energies of the whole organism.
Hence an occasional dose is advantageous, even
though no serious derangement exists; but un
necessary dosing should never be carried too far.
as every purgative medicine reduces the strength,
when taken to excess. The thousand cases in which
a physic is required cannot be enumerated here, bui
they suggest themselves to the reason of every
body; and it is confidently believed this pill wifi
answer a better purpose than any thing which has
hitherto been available to mankind. When their
virtues are once known, the public will no longei
doubt what remedy to employ when in need of r.
cathartic medicine. Being sugar-wrapped they arc
pleasant to take, and being purely vegetable, n<
barm can arise from their use in any quantity.

SSOO challenge! T --
HO BEN SACK’S WORM SYRUP.—An article
founded upon Scientific Principles, compound
ed with purely Vegetable substances, being per
fectly safe when taken, and has never boen known
to fail in curing the most obstinate case. Worms
can never exist when this remedy is once used,
from ihe fact that it not only destroys them but
removes all the slime and mucus which may re
main.
THE TAPE WORM,
This worm is the most difficult one to destroy of
all that inhabit the human body. It grows to an
almost indefinite length, and becoming so coiled
and fastened in the intestines and stomach as to
produce fits, St. Vitus’ Dance, &c., which is the
cause of many going to the gi-ave, not believing
that these complaints have their origin from the
Tape Worm: consequently they do not uso the
proper medicines for their disease. To those who
are afflicted with this awfuPfoe to health, I recom
mend the use of my Worm Syrup, and Liver,Pills,
the Syrup to be takon in doses of two table spoon
fuls three times a day, then take from five to eight
of my Liver Pills, to dislodge and pass the worm.
By strictly following these directions, the most ob
stinate cases of Tape Worm can be speedily cured.
ROUND OR STOMACH WORM.
i This worm is usually lound in the small intes
, tinos, and is the worm most common to children,
[ yet it i 3 not entirely confined to them, as adults
I have frequently been known to suffer with them.
The Symptoms most prominent whilo affected with
f this worm, are hardness and fullness of the holly,
slimy stools, looseness of tho bowels, picking at the
nose, a blucish streak under tho eyes, Ac. If you
or any of your children have any of tho above
symptoms, HOBENSACK’S WORM SYRUP can
safely bo dependod upon—by using it you have a
certain, safo, and speedy cure; and if after using
t according to the directions, the patient is not
restored to health, and the worms thoroughly era
dicated from the system, you can rest assured there
is no remedy beyond the grave, as for fail, there is
no such word as fail with those who use my Worm
Syrup.
ASCARIDES OR SMALL THREAD WORMS
These worms, to which tho human system is lia
ble, are the most troublesme of all others. They
are generally, to be foundin the rectum, and if al
lowed to remain, from the irritation they produce,
lay the foundation for serious disorders, such ns
inflammation of the bowels, and other derange
ments of the stomach. Tho best and safest medi
cine that can be used is IIOBENSACK’S WORM
S\ R.UP. Such is the astonishing power of my
medicines over Ascaradies, that I defy any one to
produce a case where my Worm Syrup and Liver
Pills are recommended to be used they will not cure,
All that is necessary is to use the Syrup in accord
ance with directions on oaoh bottle, and in case a
gentlo purgative is required in order to allay tne
irritation thoy produce, the Liver Pills by their
sympathizing action and healthy operation upon
the bowels, is the most pleasant medicine that can
be taken.

DR. MORSE’S INVIGORATING CORDIAL
A PHENOMENON IN MEDICINE
Health Restored and Life Lengthened
—BY—
Er. Morse's Invigorating Elixir or Cordial,
AT FIRST the properties attributed to Professor
Morse'3 Invigorating Elixir or Cordial were deem
ed fabulous. The public often deceived could not be
lieve the simple and sublime truths announced by the
discoverer. But facts, undeniable facts, attested by
witnesses of the highest class acd character, are now
triumphing over all doubts Incredulity is overthrown
by a mass of .testimony which is perfectly irresistible.
The Elixir remedies, in all cases, the deplorable evils
arising from a misuse or abuse of the various organs
which make up the wonderful machine called man. It
restores to full vigor every delicate functioh connected
with that mysterious compound agency of matter and
mind, necessary to the re-production ot humaL 1 if**.—
To persons of feeble muscular frame, or deficient in v*
tal power, it is recommended as the on y means oi
communicating that energy which is necessary o the
proper employment of all the uaturai appetites, * well
as the higher mental attributes. Its beneficial fleets
are not confined to either sex or to any age. The fee
ble girl, the ailing wife, the listless, enervated ycuth.
the overworn man of business, the victim of nervous
depression, the individual suffering from general debili
ty,or from the weakness of a single organ, will fed im?
mediate and permanent relief from the use of this Jpj
comparable renovator. Tothosewho have predispesii
tion to paralysis, it will prove a complete and urfail pg
safeguard against that terrible malady. There are
many, perhaps, who have so trifled with their copstitu
tions, that they think themselves beyond the reach of
mediciue. Let not even these despair. The Fhx'r
deals with disease as it exists, without reference e
causes, and will not only remove the disorder itsel.,
RE BUILD THE BROKEN CONSTITUTION
The derangement of the system, leading to nervous
diseases, and the forms ot nervous disease itself, are sa
numerous that it would require a column to enumerate
the maladies for which this preparation is a specific. >
few, however, may be enumerated, viz :—neuralgia, *
dolereaux.headache, incipient paralysis, hysteria, pal
pitation of the heart, spinal affections, muscular debili
ty, tremors, flatulency, a pricking sensation in the flesh
numbness, mental depression, weakness of the will, in
disposition to move, faintness after exercise, broken
sleep and terrifying dreams, inability to remain in one
place or position, weakness of the procreative organs,
sexual incompetency, melancholy, monomania, fluor
albus, sinking at the’ stomach, female irregularities, a
chronic tendency to miscarriage, emaciation, and all
complaints growing out of a free indulgence of the pas
sions, and all barreness that does not proceed from or
j ganie causes, beyond the reach of medicine.
lYhenever the organs to be acted upon are free from
malformation or strictural diseases, it is averred that
MORSE’S INVIGORATING ELIXIR
will re-place Weakness with strength, incapacity with
efficiency, irregularity with uniform and natural ac
tivity. and this not only without hazard or re-action,
but with a happy effect on the general organization.—
Bear in mind that all maladies, wherever they begin,
finish with the uervous system, and that the paraliza
tion of the nerve of motion and sensation is physical
death. Bear in mind, also, that for every kind of ner
vous disease the Elixir Cordial is the only reliable pre
paration know n.
CURE OF NERVOUS DISEASES.
