FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight Tariffs !
Office of the Fashion Line, \
Augusta, April 15,1854. \
THE subscriber would respectfully call the at
tention of the Merchants throughout Georgia,
Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to the
Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and cheap
route for the transportation of their Merchandise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
those of the South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
vor of this route of from 30 to 50 per cent., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater per centage.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment
of his Goods together; they are not retailed to
him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with theseaboatd, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
other new Boat, of light draught of water, will be
added during the coming summer. These boa£e
will leave Savannah after the discharge of the
New York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or
three times a week, delivering those Goods at this
point in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12J per cent, will be allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the sea board should be directed
to M. A. Cohen, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
Jno. A. Moore, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, a3
well as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers gene
rally, on the line of Railroads through Georgia and
Tennessee, who ship to Savannah and Northern
inarkots, this route offers very favorable induce
ments.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
rors, bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
Cohen, at Savannah, for all goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE.
In case of low river, all goods consigned to this
line, will be forwarded by Central, and connecting
Railroads. apriils

the lightest draft boats on the river, and a large
number of flats or barges, all in good condition, en
able them to offer facilities for promptness and

leaving each place every other day; and in case of
extreme low river, definite instructions will be giv
en their Agent in Savannah,to forward all goods to
their care byway of the Central, Augusta and
Waynesboro Railroads.
The Directors are determined to adhere to their
prosent very low rate of freights which are fully
one-half lesbian the Railroads from the Seaboard.
Goods from the Eastward should be distinctly
marked, Iron Steamboat Company, or care of
Thos. R. Mills, Savannah, who will forward them
promptly without charge.

For all diseases of the Blood, nothing has yet been
found to compare with it. It cleanses the system of
all impurities, acts gently and efficiently on the Liver

the Stomach, makes the Skin clear and healthy, and
restores the Constitution, enfeebled by disease or bro

For the Ladies, it is incomparably better than all the

BEWARE OF IMITATIONS.
ASK for HAMPTON S VEGETABLE TINCTURE.
The many cures made by this pleasant and safe
remedy may induce counterfeiting-.
A medicine must have merit, and great merit too, to
stand the test of public opinion. No art of puffing can
galvanize a worthless article, so as to keep it up as a
good medicine, if it he not really so.
A good medicine will live, become popuiar. and ex
tend its sales year after year, in spite of opposition.
The people readily find out its virtues, and the fame of
them passes from mouth to mouth with more rapiditv
than newspapers can spread it. A living witne* testi

far more service than any newspaper advertising.

AFFLICTED It RAD!
PHILADELPHIA MEDICAL HOUSE—Established 20
years ago by Dr. Kinkelin, corner of Third and
Union Streets, between Spruce and Pine, Philadelphia.
Invalids are apprised that Dr. Kinkelin confines his
practice to a particular branch of medicine, which en
gages his undivided attention. He cautions the unfor
tunate against the abuse of mercury ; thousands are
annually mercurialized out of life. Recent affections
are promptly extinguished.
Twenty years of experience in the treatment of a
class of diseases hitherto neglected and imperfectly un
derstood, hasenabl-'d Dr. Kinkelin. (author of a work
on Self Preservation.) to prove that nine tenths of the
causes of nervous debility, local and constitutional
weakness, mental and physical suffering, are traceable
to certain habits, forming the most secret yet deadly
and fatal springs of domestic misery and premature
mortality.
Take Particular Notice. —There is an evil habit some
times indulged in by boys, in solitude, often growing
up with them to manhood, and which, if not reformed
in due time, not only begets serious oostacles to matri
monial happiness, but gives rise to a series of protract
ted, insidious, and devastating affections. Few of those
who give way to this pernicious practice are aware of
the consequences, until they find the nervous system
shattered, feel strange and unaccountable feelings, and
vague fears in the mind.
The unfortunate thus affected becomes feeble, is una
ble to labor with accustomed vigor, or to apply his
mind to study ; his step is tardy and weak, he is’dnll.
irresolute, and engages in his sport with less energy
■ ban usual.
If he emancipate himself before Cue practice has
done its worst, and enter matrimony, his marriage is
unfruitful, and his sense tells him that tills is caused by
his early follies. These are considerations which should
awaken the attention of those similarly situated,
Marriage requires the fulfilment c>f several condi
tions, in order that it may be really the cause of mutu
al happiness. Could the veil which covers the origin
of domestic wretchedness be raised, and its true source
in every instance disclosed—in how many could it be
traced to physical disqualifications and their attendant
disappointments! Apply then while it is yet time, in
order to have your unstrung and relaxed organization
rebraced, revivified and strengthened.
Remember, he who places himself under Dr. Kinke
lin's treatment may religiously confide in his honor as
a gentleman, and rely upon the assurance, that the se
crets of Dr. K.'s patients will never be disclosed.
Young man—let no false modesty deter you from
mzkiugyour case known to one who, from education
and respectability, can certainly befriend you.
Two many think they will conceal the secret in their
own hearts, and cure themselves. Alas! how often is
this a fatal delusion, and how many a promising young
man, who might have been an ornament to society,
has faded from the earth.
Strictures of the urethra are rapidly removed by the
application of a new therapeutical ageht, used only by
Dr. K Weakness and constitutional debility promptly
cured, and full vigor restored.
Country Invalids can have (by stating their case ex
plicitly, together with all their symptoms, per letter,
enclosing a remittance) Dr. K.'s medicine, appropriated
accordingly.
Forwarded to any part of the United States, and pack

READ THE FOLLOWING CERTIFCATE.
Tallapoosa County, Ala . Jan. 2.1852.
Dear Sir: —l send you this to certify to you that
your Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla has per
formed one of the most wonderful cures on me that
has ever been effected on man. *
I have been afflicted for forty years with eruptions
on my legs and feet; in 1848 they got so had that 1 had
to go on crutches, and in 1849 I had one leg amputated
above the knee. In about nine months after my other
leg broke out in large eating and running sores from
my knee to my foot, and discharged a great deal of of
fensive matter. My groin also broke out in large biles,
which discharged much offensive matter, and at the
same time my left hand broke out in large running
sores nearly to my elbow.
The misery that I have suffered for the last two years
I cannot describe to you. I was in such agony that I
never rested day or night.
In October last my son brought me one of your bot
tle wrappers; I read it, and found record of some wou
derful cures performed by your “ Extract of Yellow
L ock aud Sarsaparilla.” I sent and got two bottles of
it, and commenced taking it. In two weeks, to my
great astonishment, my sores all became easy, and I
could sleep all night, a thing I had not done for two
yoars. «When I had taken six bottles, my sores had
dnurly all healed. My sores got well as if by enchant
mout. I have now used, in all, eight bottles of your
Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla,” aud I now
consider myself well.
I entreat all of the afflicted to try this Medicine, for
believe it will cure any known disease iu the world.
Lay asideall prejudice aud just try it, and proc aim its
great worth to suffering mankind, and entreat them to
take it, for it will curethem.
My case is well known in a large portion of South
garolina, Georgia and Alabama, and If any should doubt
the above cure, I invite them to call on me, and I will
show them the scars. I can be found in Tallapoosa
County. Alabama, one mile from Stoe's Ferry.
RENAJATI HUGHES.
The Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla is peculiarly adap
ted for females of delicate health, resulting from ir
regularities of menstrual discharges, and other diseases
peculiar to their sex. The proprietor has in hi. posses
sion a great number of certificates of cures performed
of the above description. Weassure the aliiicted, that
a bottle or two of Dr. Guysotfs Extract of Yellow
Dock and Sarsaparilla will at once regulate those diffi
culties and renew the natural energies.

4 new and'singularly successful remedy for tht
xl. cure of all Bilious diseases Costiyeness, Indi
gestion, Jaundice, Dropsy, Rheumatism, levers,
Gout, Humors, Nervousness, Irritability, Inflamma
tions, Headache, Pains in the Breast, Side, Back,
and Limbs, Female complaints, &c., Bc c. Indeed,
very few are the diseases in which a Purgative Medi
cine is not more or less required, and much sick
ness and suffering might be prevented, if a harm
less but effectual Cathartic were more freely used.
No person can feel well while a costive habit of
body prevails ; besides it sooq generates serious and
often fatal diseases, which might have been avoided
by the timely and judicious use of a good-purgative.
This is alike true of Colds, Feverish symptoms, and
Bilious derangements. They all tend to become 01
produce the deep seated and formidable distempers
which load the hearses all over the land. Hence a
reliable family physic is of the first importance to
the public health, and this Pill has been perfected
with consummate skill to meet that dem’and. An
extensive trial of its virtues by Physicians, Proses
sors. and Patients, has shown results surpassing
anything hitherto known of any medicine. Cures
have been effected beyond belief, were they not sub
stantiated by persons of such exalted position and
character as’to forbid the suspicion of untruth.
Among the eminent gentlemen to whom we are
allowed to refer for these facts, are
Prof. Valentine Mott, the distinguished Sur
geon of New York City.
Doct. A. A. Hayes, Practical Chemist of the
Port of Boston, and Geologist for the State of Mas
sachusetts.
Ira L. Moore. M. D., an eminent Surgeon and
Physician, of the City of Lowell, who has long used
them in his extensive practice.
H. C. Southwick, Esq., one of the first mer
chants in New York City.
C. A. Davis, M. D., Sup’t and Surgeon of the
United States Marine Hospital, at Chelsea, Mass.
Did space permit, we could give many hundred
such names, from all parts where the Pills have
oeen used, but evidence even more convincing
the certificates of these eminent public men it
shown in their effects upon trial.
These Pills, the result of long investigation anc
study, are offered to the public as the best anc
most complete which the present state of medica’
science can afford. They arc compounded not of
the drugs themselves, but of the medicinal virtue#
only of Vegetable remedies, extracted by chemical
process, in a state of purity and combined togethei
in such a manner as to insure the best results. This
system of composition for medicines has been found
n the Cherry Pectoral and Pills both, to produce a
more efficient remedy than had hitherto been ob
tained by any process. The reason is perfectly ob
vious. While by the old mode of composition, ev
’ry medicine is burdened with more or less of acri
nonious and injurious qualities; by this, each indi
vidual virtue only that is desired for the curative
;ffect is present. All the inert and obnoxious qual
ties of each substance employed are left behind, th«
mrative virtues only being retained. Hence it is
self-evident the effect should prove as they have
proved more purely remedial, and the Pills a surer,
:nore powerful antidote to disease than any othei
medicine known to the world.
As it is frequently expedient that my medicine
should be taken under the counsel of an attending
Physician, and as he could not of a
•emedy without knowing its composition, I have
supplied the accurate Formula by which both mj
Pectoral and Pills are made to the whole body of
ctitioners in the United States and British Arner-
Provinces. If however there should be any
who has not received them, they will be
omptly forwarded by mail to his address.
Os all the Patent Medicines that are offered, how
few would be taken if their composition was known 1
Their life consists in their mystery. I have no
mysteries.
The composition of my preparations is laid open
to all men, and all who are competent to judge or,
the subject, freely acknowledge their convictions
of their intrinsic merits. The Cherry Pectoral was
pronounced by scientific men to be a wonderful
medicine before its effects were known. Many em
inent Physicians have declared the same thing ol
my Pills,* and even more confidently, and are will
ing to certify that their anticipations were more
than realized* by their effects upon trial.
They operate by their powerful influence on the
internal viscera to purify the blood and stimulate it
into healthy action remove the obstruction? of
the stomach, bowels, liver, and other organs of th<
body, restoring their irregular action to health, ant
by correcting wherever they exist such derange
merits as are the first origin of disease.
Being sugar wrapped they are pleasant to tßke
and being purely vegetable, no harm can arise froir
their use in any quantity.
For minute directions, see the wrapper on the
Box.

HOJBENSACH'S LIVER PILLS
TVTO part of the system is more liable to disease
