FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight Tariffs !
Office of the Fashion Line, )
Augusta, April 15,1854. |
THE subscriber would respectfully call the at
tention of the Merchants throughout Georgia,
Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to the
Savannah River, as a safo, expeditious and cheap
route for the transportation of their Merchandise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
those of tho South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
vor of this route of from 30 to 50 per cent., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater per centage.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment
of his Goods together; they are not retailed to
him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with theseaboaid, with a list of charges attached
tp each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
other now Boat, of light draught of water, wits be
added during tho coming summer. These boats
will leave Savannah after the discharge of tho
New York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or
three times a week, delivering those Goods at this
point in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12$ per cent, will be allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the sea hoard should be directed
to M. A. Cohen, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
Jno. A. Moore, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as
well the Cotton Merchants, and dealers gene
rally, on the line of Railroads through Georgia and
Tennessee, who ship to Savannah and Northern
markets, this route offers very favorable Induce
ments.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
rors, bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
Cohen, at Savannah, for all goods from seaboard.
. JNO. A. MOORE.
In case of low river, all goods consigned to this
line, will be forwarded by Central, and connecting
Railroads. apri!ls

which has been given it, and having tested its virtues
we unhesitatingly say it eminently deserves it.”
J. T. & J. W. Berry, Unientown, Ky., July 21, 1852,
said: “We have heard of many cures performed by
the use of Dr. lloofland’s German Bitters, and believe
it to be a valuable medicine.”
J. Grant, Irvine, Ky., June 26,1852, said : “We have
succeeded in introducing your Ilo’ofland Bitters; phy
sicians and others purchase them by the half dozen and
dozen.”
Dr. P. Patio & Bro., Knoxville, Tenn., April 9,1851,
said : “ Your Bitters are now selling very fast, and eve
ry person that has used it, so far as we havo been able
to learn, has been benefitted.”
These Bitters are entirely vegetable; they invigorate
and strengthen the system, never prostrates it, and can
be used for Infants as well as adults.

ARE YOU SICK?
BEWARE OF IMITATIONS.
ASK for HAMPTON’S VEGETABLE TINCTURE.
The many cures made by this pleasant and safe
remedy may induce counterfeiting.
A medicine must have merit, and great merit too, to
stand the test of public opinion. No art of puffing can
galvanize a worthless article, so as to keep it up as a
good medicine, if it be not really so.
A good medicine will live, become popular, and ex
tend Hts sales year after year, in spite of opposition.
The people readily find out its virtues, and the fame of
them passes from mouth to mouth with more rapidity
than newspapers can spread it. A living witness testi
fying to the cure a medicine has made for him, is of
far more service than any newspaper advertising.
In proof of what we say above, we refer you to
HAMPTON’S VEGETABLE TINCTURE, and its effects.

AFFLICTED BRAD!
PHILADELPHIA MEDICAL HOUSE—Established 20
years ago by Dr. Kinkelin, corner of Third and
Union Streets, between Spruce and Pine, Philadelphia.
Invalids are apprised that Dr. Kinkelin confines' his
practice to a particular branch of medicine, which en
gages his undivided attention. lie cautions the unfor
tunate against the abuse of mercury ; thousands are
annually mercurialized out of life. Recent affections
are promptly extinguished.
Twenty years of experience in the treatment of a
class of diseases hitherto neglected and imperfectly un
derstood, has enabl-d Dr. Kinkelin. (author of a work
on Self Preservation,) to prove that nine tenths of the
causes of nervous debility, local and constitutional
weakness, mental and physical suffering, are traceable
to certain habits, forming the most secret yet deadly
and fatal springs of domestic misery and premature
mortality.
Take Particular Notice. —There is an evil habit some
times indulged in by boy's, in solitude, often growing
up with them to manhood, and which, if not reformed
in due time, not only begets serious oostacles to matri
monial happiness, but gives rise to a series of protract
ted, insidious, and devastating affections. Pew of those
who give way to this pernicious practice are aware of
the consequences, until they find the nervous system
shattered, feel strange and unaccountable feelings, and
vague fears in the mind.
The unfortunate thus affected becomes feeble, is una
ble to labor with accustomed vigor, or to apply his
mind to study ; his step is tardy and weak, he is dull,
irresolute, and engages in his sport with less energy
than usual.
If he emancipate himself before the practice has
done its worst, and enter matrimony, his marriage is
unfruitful, and his sense tells him that this is caused by
his early follies. These are considerations which should
awaken the attention of those similarly situated,
Marriage requires the fulfilment of several condi
tions, in order that it may be really the cause of mutu
al happiness. Could the veil which covers the origin
of domestic wretchedness be raised, and its true source
in every instance disclosed—in how many could it be
traced to physical disqualifications and their attendant
disappointments! Apply then while it is yet time, in
order to have your unstrung and relaxed organization
rebraced, revivified and strengthened.
Remember, he who places himself under Dr. Kinke
lin's treatment may religiously confide in his honor as
a gentleman, and rely upon the assurance, that the se
crets of Dr. K.'s patients will never be disclosed.
Young man—let no false modesty deter you from
mzking your case known to one who, from education
and respectability, can certainly befriend you.
Two many think they will conceal the secret in their
own hearts, and cure themselves. Alas! how often is
this a fatal delusion, and how many a promising young
man, who might have been an ornament to society,
has faded from the earth.
Strictures of the urethra are rapidly removed by the
application of a new therapeutical ageht, used only by
Dr. K Weakness and constitutional debility promptly
cured, and full vigor restored.
Country Invalids can have (by stating their case ex
plicitly, together with all their symptoms, per letter,
enclosing a remittance) Dr. K.’s medicine, appropriated
accordingly. ,
Forwarded to any part of the United States, and pack

ROGER S LIVERWORT AND TAR.
FOR the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, Influenza,
Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood, and all oth
er Lung Complaints tending to Consumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over our coun
try. The numerous letters we receive from our vari
ous agents, informing us of cures effected iu their im
mediate neighborhoods, warrant us in saying it is one
of the best, if not the very best, Cough Medicine now
before the public. It almost invariably relieves, and
not uufrequently cures the very worse cases V'hen all
other Cough preparations have failed, this has relieved
the patient, as Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and
Physicians can testily. Ask the Agent in your nearest
town, what has teen his experience of the effects of
this medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
of time he will tell you
IT IS THE BEST MEDICINE EXTANT.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we have
received lately, regarding the virtues of this medicine.
Dr. S. S. Oslin. of Knoxville, O’a., says: u I have been
using your Liverwort and Tar very extensively in my
practice for three years past, and it is with pleasure I
state my belief in its superiority over all other articles
with which I am acquainted, for which it is recom
mended.”
Messrs Fitzgerald & Benners, writing from Waynes
ville, N. C.. says : “ The Liverwort and Tar is becoming
daily more popular iu this Country, and we think just
ly so. All who have tried it speak in commendable
terms of it, and say it is very beneficial in alleviating
the complaints for which it is recommended.”
Our Agent in Pickens District, S. C., Mr. S. R. McFall,
assures us ‘‘that he uses it with great benefit in his own
family, and recommends it to his neighbors.” He gives
an instance of a No grt> woman, in his vicinity, who hud
been suffering with disease o! the Lungs for years, at
tended with severe Cough, who was relieved by the
Liverwort and Tar.
Such are the good reports we hear of this Medicine
from all parts of the south. For a report of the sur
prising cures it has performed in the Western and
Northern and Eastern States, we would invite the suf«
ering patient to read the pamphlet which acaompantes
each bettle. To all, we say, have hope, have hope!

very few are the diseases in which a Purgative Medi
cine is not more or less required, and much sick
ness and suffering might be prevented, if a harm
less but effectual Cathartio were more freely used.
No person can feel well 'while a costive habit of
body prevails ; besides it soon generates serious and
often fatal diseases, which might have been avoided
bv the timely and judicious use of a good purgative
This is alike true of Colds, Feverish symptoms, and.
Bilious derangements. They all tend to become oi
produce the deep seated and formidable distempers
which load the hearses all over the land. Hence a
reliable family physic is of the first importance to
the public health, and this Pill has been perfected
with consummate skill to meet that demand. An
extensive trial of its virtues by Physicians, 1 roses
sors. and Patients, has shown results surpassing
anything hitherto known of any medicine. Cures
have been effected beyond belief, were they not sub
stantiated by persons of such exalted position ami
character as’to forbid the suspicion of untruth.
Among the eminent gentlemen to whom we art
allowed to refer for these facts, are
Prof. Valf.ntine Mott, the distinguished Sur
geon of New York City.
Doct. A. A. Hayes, Practical Chemist of tht
Port of Boston, and Geologist for the State of Mas
sachusetts.
Ira L. Moore, M. D., an eminent Surgeon and
Physician, of the City of Lowell, who has long used
them in his extensive practice.
H. C. Southwick, Esq., one of the first mer
chants in New York City.
C. A. Davis, M. D., Sup’t and Surgeon of tht
United States Marine Hospital, at Chelsea, Mass.
Did space permit, we could give many hundred
mch names, from all parts where the Pills havt
oeen used, but evidence even more convincing that
the certificates of these eminent public men ii
shown in their effects upon trial.
These Pills, the result of long investigation and
study, are offered to the public as the best anc
most complete which the present state of medica'
science can afford. They are compounded not of
the drugs themselves, but of the medicinal virtue?
only of Vegetable remedies, extracted by chemical
process, in a state of purity and combined together
in such a manner as to insure the best results. This
of composition for medicines has been found
n the Cherry Pectoral and Pills both, to produce a
nore efficient remedy than had hitherto been ob
tained by any process. The reason is perfectly ob
vious. While by the old mode of composition, ev
jry medicine is burdened with more or less of acri
monious and injurious qualities; by this, each indi
vidual virtue only that is desired for the curative
jffcct is present. All the inert and obnoxious qual
ties of each substance employed are left behind, the
;urative virtues only being retained. Hence it is
self-evident the effect should prove as they have
Droved more purely remedial, and the Pills a surer,
nore powerful antidote to disease than any other
medicine known to the world.
As it is frequently expedient that my medicine
ihould be taken under the counsel of an attending
Physician, and as he could not properly judge of a
•emedy without knowing its composition, I have
supplied the accurate Formula by which both my
Pectoral and Pills are made to the whole body of
ctitioners in the United States and British Amer-
Provinces. If however there should be any
who has not received them, they will be
omptly forwarded by mail to his address.
Os all the Patent Medicines that are offered, how
;ew would be taken if their composition was known '
Their life consists in their mystery. I have no
mysteries.
"The composition of my preparations is laid open
to all men, and all who are competent to judge on
the subject, freely acknowledge their convictions
of their intrinsic merits. The Cherry Pectoral was
pronounced by scientific men to be a wonderful
medicine before its effects were known. Many em
inent Physicians have declared the same thing of
my Pills, and even more confidently, and are will
ing to certify that their anticipations were more
than realized by their effects upon trial.
They operate by their powerful influence on the
internal viscera to purify the blood and stimulate it
into healthy action—remove the obstruction* of
the stomach, bowels, liver, and other organs of the
body, restoring their irregular action to health, anei
by correcting wherever they T exist such derange
incuts as are the first origin of disease.
Being sugar wrapped they are pleasant to take
and being purely vegetable, no harm can arise fron
their use in any quantity.
For minute directions, see the wrapper on the
Box.

VEGETABLE EXTRACT.
DR. MORSE'S INVIGORATING CORDIAL
A PHENOMENON IN MEDICINE
Health Restored and Lite Lengthened
BY
Dr. Morse's Invigorating Elixir or Cordial,
AT FIRST the properties attributed to Professor
Morse’s Invigorating Elixir or Cordial were deem
ed fabulous. The public often deceived could not be
lieve the simple and sublime truths announced by the
discoverer. But facts, undeniable facts, attested by
witnesses of the highest class and character, are now
triumphing over all doubts Incredulity is overthrown
by a mass of testimony which is perfectly irresistible.
The Elixir remedies, in all cases, the deplorable evils
arising from a misuse or abuse of the various organs
which make up the wonderful machine called man. It
restores to full vigor every delicate functioh connected
with that mysterious compound agency of mstter end
mind, necessary to the re-production ofhuniai life.—
To persons of feeble muscular frame,'or deficient iu v»
tal power, it is recommended as the on y mepDs of
communicating that energy which is necessary o the
proper employment of all the natural appetites, e well
as the higher mental attributes. Its benefic ; al fleets
are not confined to either sex or to any age. The fee
ble girl, the ailing wife, the listless, enervated yruth,
the overworn man of business, the victim of nervous
depression, the individual suffering from genera) debili
ty, or from the weakness of a single organ, will Pnd ipj
mediate and permanent relief from the use of this in ■
comparable renovator. To those>who have predispesii
tion to paralysis, it will prove a complete and urfai) ng
safeguard against that terrible malady. There are
many, perhans, who have so trifled with their coDstitu
tions, that they think themselves beyond the reach of
medicine. Let not even these despair. The Flisr
deals with disease as it exists, without reference e
causes, and will not only remove the disorder itsel.
RE BUILD THE BROKEN CONSTITUTION
The derangement of tne system, leading to nervous
diseases, and the forms ot nervous disease itself, are so
numerous that it w ould require a column to enumerate
the maladies for which this preparation is a specific: >
few, however, may be enumerated, viz : —neuralgia, »
dolereaux.headache, incipient paralysis, hysteria, pal
pitation of the heart, spinal affections, muscular debili
ty, tremors, flatulerfFy, a pricking sensation in the flesh
numbne.s-, mental depression, weakness ol the will, in
disposition to move, faintness after exercise, broken
sleep and terrifying dreams, inability to remain in one
place or position, weakness of the procreative organs,
sexual incompetency, melancholy, monomania, fluor
albusj sinking at the stomach, female irregularities, a
chronic tendency to miscarriage, emaciation, and all
complaints growing out of a free indulgence ot the pas
sions, and all barreness that does not proceed from or
ganic causes, beyond the reach of medicine.
Whenever the organs to be acted upon are free from
malformation or strictural diseases, it is averred that
MORSE’S INVIGORATING ELIXIR
w ill re-place weakness with strength, incapacity with
efficiency, irregularity with uniform and natural ac
tivity. and this not only without hazard or re-action,
but with a happy effect on the general organization.—
Bear in mind that all maladies, wherever they begin,
finish with the nervous system, and that the paraliza
tion of the nerve of motion and sensation is physical
death. Bear in mind, also, that for every kind of ner
vous disease the Elixir Cordial is the only reliable pre
paration known.
CURE OF NERVOUS DISEASES.
No language canjjonvey an adequate idea of the im
mediate, and almost miraculous change which it occa
sions in the diseased, debilitated and shattered nervous
system, whether broken down by excess,-weak by na
