April.—With last week the month of
storms slid away into the past. His depar
ture was quiet. Like the old hero of many
battles, whose uncouth but sturdy limbs,
yield complacently to the vanquisher of all
things. So March, from hi- furious cam
paign, lay down to slumber as quietly as
though he bad brought no storms, no wind,
no rain in his train. But he wentjnoiselessly
away, and left us enjoying the beautiful sun
shine of April, the month of showers, the
lachrymose matron of the flowers. She came
smiling bem-gnly, and the breath of her fra
grance was sweet and rare. It whispers to
ns the secret of the coming of all the flowers
that deck the earth-tlrmament. There was a
gladness in ber very smile that atoned for the
bitter usage we had received at the bands of
her boisterous predecessor, it made one
think of fried chicken and green peas, or a
trip Stone Mountain, or picnicking in the
woods.
We have had no days before, this .season,
as bright and warm as yesterday. It felt
like real summer, and made one think decid
edly of ices, or long for “a lodge in some
vast wilderness’’ where the warm weather
could be appreciated as a luxury.

National Hotel —To-day the billiard ’par
lor and bar ot the National Hotel will be open
ed to the public gratis. Messers. Pratt, Pond
and Corey will embrace that method of ma
king the acquaintance of a portion at least of
the citiuns ot Atlanta.
These gentlemen have expended a large
amount of money in providing the city with
a first class hotel. They have the building
about complete, and are famishing it hand •
somely. By ‘.he first of May they aim to have
it fully ready for public accommodation.
This Hotel is perhaps the most elegant build
ing that has geue up in Atlanta. Toe rooms
forty in number, are large and handsomely
furnished, and are being furnished with walnut
furniture. The offi.e, bar, billiard parlor etc,
are on the first floor and are conveniently sit
uated.
We are glad to note this acquisition to the
Hotel facilities of Atlanta. The city is under
obligations to the gentlemanly proprietors ,for
its construction.

Superior Court.—The March term of the
Superior Conrt for Fulton county was opened
yesterday, Hon. Hiram Warner, the newly
appointed Judge, presiding.
From the Paris, Kentucky. True Kentuckian, March 29.
A Tragedy in Kentucky—Fear
ful Tragedy—Uajor Waters, of
Georgia, Killed.
On last Monday a fearful tragedy was en
acted in Millersburg of this county. Henry
M. Bonlden, of this county, about nineteen
years of age, eon of Jesse H. Boulden, was
being tried before the Trustees of Millersburg
for a breach of the peace, committed the night,
before, and during the piogress of the trial
young Boulden jumped up, drew bis pistol,
flourishing it and swearing, said, “any person
who said be fired bis pistol the night before
told a lie,’’ and that he would kill the person
who touched him.
The Marshal attempted to arrest him, and
called upon the bystanders to assist, and in
the attempt to do so he fired bis pistol twice,
the first shot killing F. E. Waters, son of H.
H. Waters, of Columbus, Georgia, and for
merly Auditor of that State. Waters was
about twenty-one years of age, and bad lost
a leg before Atlanta, during the late war,
having been a Major in the 4th Georgia Regi
ment. He was a student in the college at
Millersburg, and was looked upon as the most
brilliant young man in the institution. Ha
was universally respected and loved, an! is
deeply regretted by those who knew him.—
Though “ a stranger in a strange land,” by
bis gentlemanly deportment be had won a
host of friends. He was preparing to leave
for his home, with the intention of studying
law under Gov. Brown.
When Boulden found be had killed Waters,
be was deeply affected, and kneeling over bis
prostrate body, made great lamentation.
Boulden had an'examiuiog trial at Millers,
burg the same evening, before Esquires Trigg
and Barnett. They held him to bail to an
swer at the next April Bourbon Court in the
sum of §2,000, Jesse H. Boulden and Dr. Car
penter being his securities. The citizens of
Millersburg were greatly outraged at the de
cision. We feel great sympathy for the
friends of both the accused and the deceased.
The father of young Boulden paid the ex
penses of Major Waters’ funeral, and sent Jo
seph Miller with the body to Georgia.
“Bless God, ir mis Ain’t Mass Jkfz!”
—A colored man, a true and faithful servant,
now in the service of Captain Thomas Jett,
an old and esteemed citizen of this county,
came into our office yesterday to get Captain
Jett’s paper. In looking around, he espied a
picture of Colonel Jefferson Davis banging
on the wall. He walked up to it and ex
claimed “Bless God, if this ain’t Mass Jeff I”
Upon inquiry, we learned that the man had
formerly belonged to Mr. McLaughlin,|a con,
nection of the Davis family, and knew Mr.
Davis well. He left the office with tears in
bis eyes. Will somebody sh >w this to Mr.
Greeley and Senator tiumner'l—VicMurg
