9 Stiches in Heart to
Save Dying Man’s Life
Phildelphia, Aug, s.—As the
result of a delicate operation,
when nine stitches were taken to
close up' a stab wound in his
heart, John Thompson. 59 years
old, may live.
The operation was performed
by Dr. Joseph Mitchel at the
Presbyterian - hospital. Thomp
son received his injury during a
quarrel with *‘British’’ Shaw, 33
years old. Shaw is alleged to
have drawn a large knife
and plunged it into the breast of
of 'Fhompson, penetrating the
heart. _
Swiming Contest
TJomorrow Night
‘On account of the inclement
weather last Saturday night, the
swimming contest at the Blue and
Gray Pool was not very largely
attended, consequently Mr. Man
beck bas decided to hold another
contest tomorrow night ‘at eight
o'clock, The general public is
invited to be present and witness
the contest, in which only ladies
are eligible. The best swimmer
will receive a bathing suit as a
prize. !
