Mysterious Fruit
On Eatonton Tree
Eatonton, Aug. 14.—Somewhat
of a curiosity in the horticultural
world has been discovered here!
on the lot owned by H. L. Gard-}
ner. What was seemingly a scrub
on the lot of a former negro ten
ant has developed under the care’
and protection of the present:
owners into a beautiful fruit-|
bearing tree. 'l'heflower is very
sweet and the fruit gave evidence |
of being a date, Lut as thetree
does not belong to the palm fam
ily it cannot be a date.
Many suppositions are now be- |
ing advanced as to what family
it belongs, the most popular be
ing that it is olive, the owner go
ing so faras tosay it was brought
direct from the Mount of Olives. |
How the tree came to be there is
not known, unless it came up
from an olive seed which hadi
been thrown into the yard per
‘haps years ago. ; l
