SERIOUS CONFLICT EMINENT
President To Call 250,000 Volunteers
Washington, D. C. Aprii 24, 1:14 p. m.—(Spccial to Leader-En
terprise). President Wilson reported planning to issue call for at
least 250,000 volunteers for service in Mexico, Congress is expected
to pass new Army Bill in 48 hours under which call will be issued, |

Emmet Tebeau, a graduate of the Fitzgerald High School is‘
pavmaster on the Flagship of Admiral Fietcher now before Vera Cruz.
His mother Mrs. Rosa Tebeau Wheelwright is now living in Hen
derson, N. C. where he also has two sisters and a brother D+, Clayton
Tebeau. Mr. Tebeau enlisted in the Navy soon after graduation
and rose from the ranks toan important post in the Navy. !
Gen. Funston Ordered To Front. ;
5000 Regulars Ship From Presido California.
Washington, Aoril 24, 1:45 p. m.—(Special to Leader-Enterprise)
Thirty-Five hundred soldiers of Regular army, under command of
General Frederick Funston, sail from Galveston today for Vera Cruz
pursuant to orders from War Department. Troops sail in four Trans
ports and Mallory Line Steamer, chartered for purpose, and carry
supplies for 90 days,
Between, 4,000 & 5000 regu'ar troops began entraining at Presido
Sanfrancisco at daybreak bound for T'exas border, to strengthen patrols
along frontier. They will proceed to Fort Bliss, from which point
they will be apportioned.
Mexicans Massing Troops Around Vera Cruz
| Attack Expected At Any Time
Vera Cruz, April 24, 1:14 P. M. (Special to Leader-Enterprise)
—News that General Maas is massing army a few miles from Vera
Cruz and Gen. Blanquet, Huerta’s minister of war is rushing with
troops to unite with these under command of Maas in great attack
on comparatively small forces of Marines at. Vera Cruz, is believed
to have hastened this. First definite move taken by the adminis
tration, landing of-armed land forces cannot be construed other
wise than as an act of war,

Americans In Danger of Mob in Mexico City.
Washington, April 24, 1:05 P. M. (Special to Leader-Enterprise)
—Following are todays developments in Mexican situation thirty
five hundred regular soldiers under General Funstsn sail from Gal
veston for Vera Cruz. Four thousand regulars left San Francisco
for Texas border, other troops left Fort Riley Kansas for border.
Official Washington is of opinion President Wilson will ask Con
gress for power to call for 250,000 to 500,000 volunteers within 40
hours. Americans at Ensenada lower Califernia are besieged by
Mexicans in consulate. U. S. ships are rushing to rescue on wire-l

Americans who are still in city of Mexico are in momentary danger
of being mobbed. Gen. Maas is massing Mexican army few miles
from Vera Cruz to attack city which is held by Americans. Gen.
Francisco Villa head of Rebel forces has’ refused to join Huerta.

Murder of Mary Phagen.
At the hearing of the motion for a new trial of Leo Frank be
jore his honor Judg2 B:n Hill, Rev. D. B Ragsdale, Pastor of the
Plum street aptist church made the following affidavit, accord
ing to a special telegram to the Leader-Eaterprise from our At
lanta correspondent. '
Atlanta, Ga., April 24, 1;15 p. m.—Sensational evidenece was
made public at hearing on extra ordinary motion in Frank ecasa to
day, Rav. D. B. Rizsdale, pastor of Pian Sieast Bugtist eb irch
s vure in bis affidavit that he heard one negro tell another he had
killed a girl in a pencil factory. Ragsdale asserted ahout three
nigats alter murder he stepped into an alley behind the poneil
factory, and while standing there he heard two negroes talking.
He asserts he heard one of them tell the other about the kiling
of a girl in 2 pencil factory and later saw the negroes come out of
the alley. His statement that he was in the ally was corrobora
ed by I. L. Barber. a member of Rev Mr. Ragsdale’s congregation,
who asserts in affidavit that he joined the minister after latter had
been in the alley a few minutes. Barber swears he saw the two
negroes come out of the alley and walk down Forsyth street., and
that he recognized one of them as Jim Conly.
Annie Maude Carter, a negress asserted she was in jail in
cell near Jim Conley, ana Conley told her he had mardered Mary
Phagan, and wrote notes to cast suspicion on Newt Lee, Conley be
came infatuated with her, the Carter woman asserts he wrote her
a number of ‘‘Love Letters’’ during the time they were incarcera
ed together. Many of these letters she returned, She said also that
she had numbers of confilential talks with Conley and promised to
marry him when he was released. In one of these conversations
she says Conley told her he haikillel a girl in a pencil factory,
that he had chocked her ta death, and threw her body down a hole.
after which he tried to outrage he,r She swears Conley told her
he wrote death notes that were found lying beside Mary Phagan’s
body in order to cast suspicion upon Newt Lee. That he put
notes in bosom of dead girl’s dress, and later took them outand
’laid them beside her body.
