Colonel W. D. Mann, of the United States, is the prime mover in the movement, und has commenced the introduction of sleeping curs on the Tull man system, which bids fair to bo os successful as that company has be»*n on the other side of the Atlan tic. It is called the Mann Boudoir Car Company, and they have established ex tensive shops at Brussels. Thus far they have turned out but few cars, though a large number are in course of construc tion. Thu engineers of Kurope persist in limiting the length of the car to thir ty-five feet, about half thedength of our palace* cars, and consequently the com p my ha- b’vn cituspelMa to build their •“ir.- on this scale. Tho body of the car is divided into fear separate compart ments or state rooms, each capable of Itcing converted at night into four coaches, and thus carrying but sixteen persons. They also have wash rooms, and all tho noavriiieBCM of the lhillman car, and are finished with equal ornamentation and elegance. There are inferior cars on some of the ruud*. but not sufficient to supply the de mand, as on our recent trio from Cologne tate 1 to Paris we were told that it was ne thus I ry to engage them three days in advance, ’anl aad bpeculators frequently buy up tickets oses anti h^ld them for an advance, os is the nin, case with almojt everything else in ork I Europe. One of these cars has just re- tumod from an experimental trip of two thousand miles of the Continent, filled with Parisian editors, all of whom are extravagant in their laudations of its comforts and conveniences, and express wonder that they have not been intro duced sooner by the railroad companies. The great difficulty has been that the European railroad system is cut up in so many companies, and the co-operation is so poor, that the passenger is frequently compelled to change can once, or some times twice, in a night's journey, or to be hauled out of the tor, with nil his valises and bundles, for the examination of hog- I -’HT 1 ' V>R th* frontiers. The furnishing of csirs by the <x>mpony to be used on all the lines between the main cities is, therefore, more essential in Europe than in tho Unite*! fitales. ..n»l there is no doubt that the Boudoir Company will be a greater W.
