of the c;.ptnr** of Fort Du Quesne. whicli
took pl.w e only twenty-five days before.
Among theailvertisements iaoneof Sarah

From one of its “Pieces on Agricul
ture” we copy one paragraph, for the
purpose of showing the style of the
writers of that day and also to commend
the suggestions, with reference to the
improvement of lands, to the Grangers
of the present d;iy:
”It is remarkable, how much is yearly
rais’d among us for the Comfort of Life,
with little or no Skill or Art. but by mere
Dint of Labor: How much more then
might be rais’d yearly on the same Lands,
with a skillful Management, is not to be
conceiv’d ! For with a right Cultivation
and Management, our lands will not wear
out (as we call it here) but will bo con
stantly growing better. And after we
have got in our Crops, the land will be
left in a better State than wo found it
the Year before; it may be kept in-
<• reusing in Goodness during the Age of
Man. And by tho same Raison, with a
skillful Management, every Part of the
Business of a Farmer may bo increased
lioth in Produce and Value. For the
want of Skill in Agriculture, and proper
Diligence, it is, that our Farms here
suffer wo shamefully, and lie so neg
as t hey do.”

Mis. L.—No, ho bought them during
tho panic, and paid cash for them. Bo
sides, at tho New York Store they alwayi
sell gooils for less profit than anywhere
else.
Mrs. II.—Well, I baud so before, but
never believed it. Mrs. E. told mo at
the society last Friday she only paid 85
cents for her beautiful prune colored each-
mere at the New York Store, and I paid
Messrs. $1 for my ugly dirt colored
one. It makes me so mad to think about
it. I’ll bay everything I want at tho
New York Store hereafter. oct5 tf
