We are aorry to Me, ray. the N’aahrille Union, that the Farmer.’ Anti-Monopoly more in Iowa ha* not realised the just expectations of every patriot in the land. The State goes Republican by its usual majority. We hope our friend, of “in- differential oolitic.” will not blame the Democratic label with this defeat, for the Democrat, voluntarily surrendered the held to the Anti-Monopoly party, and worked a. indr idual* for its success. In l’emir-ylrania the Democrats took an open stand, held their regular conven tion, and platdS a full ticket in the field. The returns so fv indicate that the Re publican majority of 80,000 last year has been reduced to 18,000. Tbe ring frauds in Philadelphia alone, if they were co noted, would annihilate this majority. Rut it was in Ohio that the Democracy took the lioldest stand, ndoptihg a pro nounced platform, and sclerting tat their leader the oldwvborae William Allen. And what has been the result ? The dispatches concede the election of a Democratic Leg islature—thus securing home legislation on home subjects without' dictation from Washington rings—a matter of vital im portance to the people of that State, while we will ail 1-c beneStted by the re turn of AUen'G. Thurman to the Federal Senate. A net Democratic gain of over 10,000 in forty-six counties is reported. In Hamilton county, which includes Cin cinnati, we are told the Republicans gain 4,000 on the Governor’s vote, although the bulk of tho Democratic Legislative ticket is elected. The vote for the third party candidate for Governor, Collins, perhaps explaihs this anomaly. Not withstanding this, yesterday morning's dispatches left*the Governorship doubt ful. Religious Items. Tux Wisconsin Congregntionaliata add ed to their numbers last year S93 new members; revivals occurred in 20 of the churches during the yev. It is stated that out of 56 churches in a certain por tion of the State S3 received during the jeer no aceessiona on profession of faith- Thx Second Congregational Church in Waymouth. Massachusetts, has held their one* hundred and fiftieth anniversary. During this period they have had-but six pastors, besides the present incumbent. Rev. G. F. Stanton, being an average of more than twenty-one years to each. Rxv. S. V. Lex, of theChristian Church a veteran of 73 yean, is still vigorously at work in Kentucky. He has boon preaching fifty-three years, and has added to the Church of Christ 4,767by baptism, and organised seventy-five congregations in Kentucky and one in Missouri. Wxslet Chapel Methodist Church, Co lumbus, Ohio, has adopted the envelope and weekly plan of contributions for the coming year. Last year this congregation contributed upwards of $12,000 to benevo lent objects and church expenses. Bisxor Greex, of tho Diocese of Mis sissippi. advertises for six Episcopal cler gymen to enter that field. There are about fourteen parishes and missionary stations on the line of the Ohio and Mo bile railroad that arc entirely destitute of church servicer. Tux thirty-six thousand acres of land given by W. W. Corcoran, of Washing ton city, to the Episcopal Church in Texas. U said so be Tery poor and the title extremely doubtful, if not worthless. Xiar four thousand conversions have occurred in East Tennessee sine- 1870, under the labors of Evangelista and missionaries sent out by the Baptist Domestic Board. As assistant Bishop is very mnch needed in the Episcopal diocese of Miss issippi, hut how to support him—the parishes being already poor—is an em- barr.i—iug .pavtion. To meet the. diffi- eulty. it is propowol that the sssi.-tant Bishop's salary he raised from the clergy, by their giving aun.udly one-tenth of their own income. Thi Sodet. Illinois. Conference of the Methodist Church, by a unanimous vote, granted to Miss Jennie F. Whiting li cense to preach 'be Go-pel and to perform the marriage ceremony. There are three distinctive Episcopal Ritualistic Churches in the city of Xew York. The average attendance at St. Alton's is about 100; at St. Ignatius' and St- Mary the Virgin’s, about 150. Thx financial report of tho American Board of Commissioners of Foreign Mis sions. at the forty-sixth annual meeting just held at Minneapolis, reveals a debt of $2«>.0iX) on September t Tlfe expen ditures of the year were $435,000. A great revival is reported at Mans field, Kentucky, coder the Libers of Dr. Chaplin, a Baptist minister. About one hundred and fifty professed conversion, including doctors, lawyers, mud a member of Congress. Fl ier Chaplin is described as a very solid man, weighing 250 pounds avoirdupois. Thx Springfield (Ill.) Journal under- takes to describe some member of Con* gross from Ufe. and here is the picture: A gentleman of very moderate is elected to Congress. He remains there for a few year., and what are the results ? An elegant mansion in Washington; a splendid turn-out; aliveried servant tool ing like an African xonave ; a fashionable family, and great wealth. Take the lamp of old iaa# 'iwse and look in on this man, aid he will he found to be stooped to the lips in corporate rottenness and the inf erable gilded tool of rapacious monopolies All raw be summed up in a few words: he had talents, power, and position; be was valued, and accepted the pneo of hi* appraisal. MERCHANTS AND PLANTERS Fertilizing Compound! This fertilizer is again offered to the public in its original purity. The stand ard has been kept up in every respect and its intrinsic value has again been demonstrated during the past summer. It is recommended, because: “It is permanent in its effects in return ing to the soil the fertilizing ingredients taken from it by excessive cropping. “It gives to cotton the food necessary to sustain life while fruiting, therefore, what is called rust seldom occurs where chis fertilizer is used. “It is the best restorer of worn out lands known to agricultural chemistry. “Its effects are immediate in the pro duction of large returns the first season. “It is good for ail crops, on any soil, being pure unadulterated plant-food. “It is as good as the best, and is the least expensive of any known good fertil izer. “It is manufactured at the South and almost entirely of Southern material. “It utilizes the ammonia found on every farm which is the most expensive part of all complete fertilizers.” We subjoin a few of the many certifi cates in our possession, as to its value, from well known parties who have used it, and to whom we would refer. ROGERS & LEM AX, Gen. Agis. La Grange, Tzocp County. Ga.1 September 14,1873. 5 Messrs. Rogers dr Lentan. Macon, Ga.: Gents: I have bought of vour agent. Captain V. L. Hopson, one car load of the Lo^nn Fertili ser. and used it this spring on my different farms. I am well pleased with it and shall use it another year in preference to any other kind. I also used the pure Peruvian Guano and other fertilizers, ana by actual comiArison. I fled the Logan is the best, nnd st murh less cost. Yours respectfully. H. W. I manipulated with rotton seed at tbe rate of one of the fertilizing compound to two of cotton seed. Mncon, Ga.: Gentlemen : I am fully ratified with the Lo- in»n Fertiliser. It bents stable manure alone, nnd is by actual count of bolls, at least 200 per cent. sii<>od of my unmanured cotton.
