Parties having articles to be included in
the Bibb county display at the State Fair,
are requested to send them to the Park
on Friday <*r Saturday. There will be
eome one on the grounds l>cth those days
to receive and take care of the goods, and
it is desirable to have the county display
completely arranged this week, if possi
ble. Set? notice in another column.
The Park to be Closed.
At a meeting of the City Council held
last night, it wae resolved t«> close the
Park on ami after tot lay until Monday.
No one will be admitted except those who
have business inside. The necessity for
this action is apparent. A great many
goods are arriving «pm» thw ground*
daily, ad«1 It wdirtd bo-tferfr inconvenient
to have a crowd in there while tiling* are
being arranged.
Mantlerfttlllr Fair.
The Washington County Fair is now in
progress at 8ander*ville. When it is
over, they expect to pack up everything
and bring it to Ma?M>n to make their
county display. Col. Toot. Hardeman
will leave this morning to deliver an ad
dress to the people of tbo county. Ho is.
suffering from a severe cold; but will be
able to tel! the people a few things that
will do them good.
Thnrouablirrtl Cattle af Public %nlc.
John Merryman. Esq., of Baltimore,
will have on exhibition at the Fair six
young Hereford cattle, ell bred from the
celebrated bull ’Sir Richard.** The cat
tle are now upon the gnsiuds, an»l are
each magnificent specimens of tbo Here
ford breed. A notice in another column
announce* that Mr. Merry man will offer
these cattle at publio sale, at the Fair
grounds, on Wednesday, October 2!Hh.
Cobb County Coinlua:.
Nineteen car loads of Cobb county pro
ducts arrived yoaten <*y evening, and will
be placed on the fair grounds at once*
Hew much more is coming is not stated i
but the indications so far are that Cobb
is going to make a display which compet
ing counties will find pretty difficult to
best. However, we do not know what
Cobb is bringing nor do wo know what
any other county will exhibit—not even
Bibb—but vro want to see them all do
their very beet, apd will t ready to give
the praise to the one who wins the prise.
The Cobb folks will bring touts with
them and complete camp equipage, and
will camp upon the new enclosure during
their stay in Macon.

As some means of judging of the merit
of Miw Eldridge, we copy from the Rich

once in ihat city, as follows:
Tlie play selected was Sheridan
Knowles’ most admired pluy of “The
Hunchour young artiste sustain
ing the character of Julia, a role which
C ve no! wider scope for the display of
r histrionic powers than the drama of
the piejrhms owning. The piece is one
of the t-iir lard selections in which all the
greit aotresses of the English and Ameri
can stage have shone, and one ef the very
best a« ting pieces, the highest dramatic
situations being matched by the elegant
diction land the sharply-defined charac
ters. The plot ia well known to all lovers
of true! dramatic art. so that a re
it at this time, is unnecessary. Miss
EMridgi* invented her characterisation
with sukh feathery lightness and exquis
ite tenderness, as to at once win for her
tho syn^sithics and attention of her audi
ence fri'in the comiuinwaiunt to the
finale of the plsy. In the different stages
of the ipvittdj our artiste was chaste and
dignifieil. and in her portrayals of
lore, admiration, gratitude, tender-
news and scorn, each in turn were
represented with no inconsiderable
dramatic skill. We do not wish to
b«. understooil. however, as accord
ing to Miss E*. a place on the pinnacle of
the dramatic temple, a* such an assertion
would bo misrepresentation to our resul-
eis, as fell as unfair to the young lady
whose ability wo ore briefly discussing.
We simply entertain the opinion of Miss
E. that she undoubtedly possesses the
Virtue and aufcmplishincnfc* of a true
artiste, and with study and experienco—
the latter the bekt of all schools—she is
d -.-*lined to occupy a high position in the
difficult and exacting profession she has
adopted* Mr. 1 Tarry Langdon. as Sir
Thomad Clijord, gave Miss Eldridge good
supjawt and Mustaimal his part with a re-
m^rkalilo degree of f*k»U, and shared the
plaudits of the audience with the fair he
ir ine of tjlie play. Mr. Higgins, a- Matter
ir.ij/er. is worthy of honorable mention.
Miss El i/a Nr rton, ss He 1 .*a, sustained
her put with considerable dash, and
made Herself a great fuvorite in her rob
licking, jovial rle?«.‘ J
Aprol>os of Misa Eldridge, her beauty

money in cirenlaikm.
The banks here are in a strong condition, and
propose to keep ao. Their line* of discounts are
Urge in view of the larse reduction made in «lepoa-

tbe planters in sending (tear cotton to their fac

maturing paper or raise money to meet the wants

The chief obstacle to the renorwy from the de
