He has a most select stock of such goods sa are usually kept in his line, and parties desiring to purchase will find all of his goods up to tno proper standard. The Wentlicr For tho past tim e days has been as fine and balmy aa was ever experienced in thia or any other climate or country. If Italy can produoe anything finer, it ia well worth while to go to Italy to enjoy the fine weather, if for no other purpose. The 3Ihjor’* Court. The combined efforts of the entire po lio* force of Macon, diligently applied, failed to produce a single case for the Mayor to adjudicate yesterday morning. There was not oven a simple drunk, nor a bit of disorderly conduct, nor even an embryo fight to be adjusted, and nothing was added to that school-house fund. The Fair Reopened. Messrs. Greer, Lake & Co. hod their broad awning decoraCod yesterday morn ing with two hundred and fifty bunches of bananas, and their sidewalks were bar ricaded with a hundred boxes of Califor nia poors. Besides these they had oranges from every clime where that fruit grows, lemons, apples—in fact everything in tho line of fruits that can be had at this son of tho year. Hymeneal. At the residence of tho bride's f other, at five o'clock yesterday afternoon, Mr. Thomas Willingham, Jr., was married to Miss Minnie Lawton. Rev. A. J. Battl* D.D., officiated. Mr. Willingham is son of Mr. Thomas H. Willingham, of Albany, Go., and tho bride is the daughter of our follow-citizen, Col. W. J. Lawton. We tender our congratulations to the happy couple, with the wish that their honeymoon last a life time. Tlie Minstrel*. Messrs. Duprcz & Benedict’s cork art ists had another fine house last night to witness their performance. They have no right to complain of tho patronage they have received during this their socond visit to Macon this season; but, then, they give a good performance throughout, and business of that kind will never lag for patrons. No matter what a roan does, if he does it well, it will pay him. Last night closed the engagement of the troupe in this city. They leave bear ing with them tho assurances that their performance has boon acceptable to tho people of Macon. The Superior Court. Tho court was occupied yesterday in hearing some civil cases. Yesterday af ternoon it hoard a motion for a new trial in the case of Gen. Iverson vs. tho City of Macon. This caso is one growing out of the Armory property, in which, at tho last term of tho court, Gen. Iverson ob tained a verdict of $1,SOO, for services rendered. Tho city now moves for a new trial. To-day tho criminal docket will be ta ken up and the case of L. B. Pike, charged with the murder of C. J. Baer, is first on docket. This case is likely to occupy tho court for several days, and will bo a very interesting one. Tho pub lic has manifested great interest in this case from the beginning, and that inter est is in no wiso abated. Eminent coun sel aro employed on both sides—Col. C. H. Harris, W. A. Lofton and J. H. Blount for tho prosecution, and Cols. Jno. B. Weems, SumT Hall and W. Poe for tho defense. Married. Last evening, in the Presbyterian Church, by Rev. A. W. Olisby, Mr. R. W. Jomison, Jr., and Miss Kate Boifeuillet, nil of this city. The following gentlemen and ladies acted as attendants upon the groom and bride: Marion Dunwody and Miss Nannie Boifeuillet. T. H. Henderson and Miss Zillaii Whittle. H- T. Powell and Miss Carrie Roberts. F. D. Tinsley and Miss Lucy Wingfield. W. N. Pratt and Miss Anna Shackel ford. John G. Ru:ui and Miss Fannie John ston. Jno. T. Boifeuillet, Jr., and Miss Sallie Thomas. S. H. Jemison and Miss Carrie Boi feuillet. The church was crowded to its utmost capacity by the very Wife of Macon, and the entire ceremony intensely interesting and imposing. Nothing could exceed tho richness and elegance of the cos tumes of the bride and her attendants, and seldom has such an array of beauty and fashion been witness til in our city. FIMF.. Two Rulldliig* Entirely De*trayed. The alarm of fire was sounded about half past eleven o’clock yesterday, and soon thereafter a dense column of smoke was seen rising on Third street, seem ingly indicating that an extensivo confla gration was going on. Upon going to the scene we found that the fire had orig inated in a store on Third, between Oak and Pine streets, belonging to Capt. L. P. Murray. There was a small stock of groceries in the building belonging to Mr. J. A. Hardaway. How the fire originated ia not known. Mr. Hardaway say* he had a small fire in the store early in the morning, but it had burned down and, he thinks, had gone entirely out. He closed the store about ten o'clock to come down town to make some purchases, and while he was absent the fire broke out, and he returned just os the building was falling in. hardly possible that the building could have been fired by an incendiary at that time of day. The probability is that some matches were left within reach of rats, and the fire was thus started. The building was very dry and burned very rapidly, and was nearly ready to tumble in when the first steamer arrived. A dwelling-house, also belonging to Capt. Murray and occupied by Mr. J. IL Smith, a printer in J. W. Burke k Co.’s office, was situated within a few feet of the store, and it, also, was soon wrapped in flames and entirely destroyed. On the other side of the store, and about fifteen feet from it, was another dwelling-house. This belonged to Mr. R. B. Barfield and was jointly occupied by Mr. George F. Wing, of Lines & Wing, and Mr. P. G. Busbee. At one time it seemed that this building would also go up; but the prompt arrival of Hook and Ladder Fire Company, whose boys made diligent use of theij buckets, kept the fire in subjec tion until water was furnished by the engines. Hook and Ladder also kept Capt. Murray's two-story residence, cor ner of Pine and Third, from taking fire. The members all worked manfully and deserve the most liberal praise. Ocmulgee No. 2, with their hand en gine, was the first to get water upon the fire, but they seemed to be playing from on inadequate supply of water, and con sequently was able to do comparatively a small amount of good. They saved Barfield's house, however. They got water from wells. Mechanics No. 4 were at the cistern at the intersection of Oak and Second streets, and had steam up in a few min utes after the alarm was given; but when they had emptied their hose reel, they found they had bnt little over half enough to reach the fire, and hod to re turn to their engine house for more. When the second supply was laid anoth er interruption was occasioned by the bursting of tho hose, and they had played only a few minutes when the hose burst again. Defiance No. 5 soon took position at the name cistern and was not long in turning a steady stream upon the flames. Numbers 1 and 3 were at other cisterns further down town and did their work well as they always do. The difficulty with all of the engines was the scarcity of water. There seemed to be no cistern within easy reach of the fire, henoe the delay in getting to work, Tho loss by the fire will probably ag gregate something over twenty-five hun dnnl dollars. Mr. Hardaway had eight hundred dollars worth of groceries in his store, all of which was burned, together with his clothing and other effects. He loses everything he had, except tho suit ho was wearing. He is a poor man, hence tho loss ia a very heavy one to him. The dwelling was insured for nine hun dred dollars, and tho store for three hun dredand fifty. Capt. Murray also had $200 on each of two small buildings on the alley, both of which were damaged. Mr. Smith succeeded in saving a few of his things; but lost more than he saved. Mr. Barfield’s house was damaged some; but he sustains no very considera ble loss. Mr. Wing and Mr. Busbeo both lose considerably by having their furniture damaged in removing it from tho house. Tho people did wrong in removing this at nil, as it was apparent from tho outset, especially after the arrival of Hook and Ladder company, that the building would be saved. The act, however, was meant all in kindness, and amid the excitement no one stopped to consider the probability of the house being saved. A great crowd of peoplo went out to see the fire, and in a short while Third street was almost blocked with folks, is so unusual a thing to have a fire Macon, that the people will go to see when one does break out. To obviate this difficulty j)hv- siciana have long sought for an agent that would Purge, Purify and Strengthen At One SBdtke Same Time. Their research has at last been rewarded by a discovery which fully realises the fondest desires of the medical faculty, and which is justly regard ed as the most important triumph that t.hari iacy has ever achieved. This important desiuerati m is Dr.Tutt’s Vegetable Liver Pills, Which purify t! e blood and remove all corrupt humors and unhealthy accummnUtions from the body, and yet produce no weakness or lassitude whatever, but on the conarary tone the stomach, and invigorate the body during the progress of their operation. Thev unite the' heretofore irre- concilaole qualities of a Strengthening, Purgative and a Purifying Tonic. Dr. Tuft’* Pills are the most active and Marching medicine m existence. They at once attack tne verv root of diseases, and their action is so prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken the patient i* aware of their eood effects. Thev may he taken at any time without restraint of diet of occupation ; they produce neither nau sea, griping or debility, and as a family medicine thev have no rival. Pnoe 25 rent* a box.
