Young, the murdered man, had been a porter in a hardware store, and was known to be poor. Suddenly he gave sign, of wealth, improved his property, taught him a hone and carriage, quit working, and informed hit employers that he was engaged in a business that was realizing enormous profits. Tho confederate, Abrams, was in jail, and had difficulty in raising money to pay attor ney foes. Ho sent for hi* brother, and directed him to go secretly to Mrs. Clem’s house and get several thousand dollars.' and to' "tel! her that tbe money must come.” . The murdered man was known to have had over seven thousand dollars on his person a few hour* before ho was mur dered. On the day of the murder Abrams, who purchased a gun, went to Mr*. s. Clem was also in the habit of visiting Young's house two or three time a week, in company with her sister-in-law, and when there sho and Young would retire to on ad joining room, where they would be en gaged in conversation and writing for a few minute*. When questioned by her sister-in-law about tho nature of her bus iness relation* with Young, she put her off with indefinite answers. Meanwhile Mr*. Clem and Young both had plenty of money. During the same time the for tunes of her convicted accomplice. Abrams, who purchased the gun, began visibly to improve. Ha quit working at his trade, commenced loafing and bor rowing money at high rate* of interest, kept a respectable balance in bank, paid hi* bank paper promptly, and spent a good portion of his time visiting Mrs. Clem’s house. But THE STRANGEST PART of these transactions remains to bo told. Dr. Duzan, a leading physician of Indi anapolis and a man of wealth, had been acquainted with Mrs. Clem since she was a child, and had always been her family pbysioian. Before her arrest, Mrs. Clem had testified os a witness in the grand jury room, and bad there positively assev erated that she had never had any finan cial dealings with Dr. Duran; and that ho would not testify otherwise. Sho began by borrowing small sums of fivo hundred or a thousand dol lars at a time for short periods of seven or ton days, at enormous rate* of interest, invariably returning money with in terest before due. and telling Duzan that she was engngod in large speculations with leading business men in Indiannp- olis, and that oho would toll him all about it at tho proper time. These loans in creased until Duzanat one timeadvanced her OVER TWESTT THOUSAND DOLLARS for which he took no receipt, note or memorandum. It invariably happened that the very day she would obtain tho money from Duzan, Young would make a deposit of like amount or pay off a note in bonk. As has been stated. $ ’7,000 of Young's paper matured in bank on tho 14th of September, 1SG8. Four or five day* before that time Mrs. Clem come to Duzan in great distress of mind, and, as he testified, wept bitterly and begged him to lend her $22,000. Just at this time Duzan’s bankers had become in quisitive concerning tho use he was looking of his money, and upon his re fusal to toll them they withdrew their accommodations. He told Mrs. Clem that he could aid her no longer. Yonng evidently looked to her to provide the means to meet his maturing notes, and when she found it impossible to effect a loan from Dazan she found herself at the end of the rope. She was compelled to dose the account, and catching ti e near est way, she accompanied Young and his wife on their ride. Her brother (Silas) followed in a boggy with tho gun pur chased by Abrams.
