Morrb, Chief Engineer Kaooo Ft re De partment, wad received and referred to the Com mitt**e on Fire Department, ex cept that portion that referred to pumps, which waa referred to the Committee on Pnznp*: Macox, Gl, November 10, 1873. Te the Honorable Mayor and Conned of Macon: GE.TTLESfEtr—I would respectfolly call your attention to the necessity of having the following cixtems attended to with as little delay a* possible: The cistern at tho intersection bf First and Pine streets needs a new supply of piping, aa one section of clay pipe is broken to pieces, and the cistern receives no water from the pump. I would rec ommend that it be cleaned ont, as a great drtftl of dirt has been washed into it, and iron piping be substituted for the clay, as the rain water that fall* above passes over this pipe into the sewer below, and leaving it exposed above the ground ren ders it liable to be broken at any time.^ The pump that supplies the cistern in front of Mr. E. J. Johnston’s residence is oat of order, and fails to supply the cis tern with water. I would also reque*t that the ground around this cistern, the ono at tho intersection of Third and Arch street*, and the one on First street, near Arch, be graded so a* to allow as easy an approach to these cisterns as possible. At present it is only accomplished with much delay and trouble. The same trouble attaches to the cistern in front of the City HalL Tho water has washed so much dirt from the cistern in front of the First street Methodist parsonage as to endanger tho entire lower side—the water in the cistern being several inches above the level of the ground outside; and the small wooden trough that once supplied it with water having become worn and broken, the water is now wasted in the street. I would also recommend to your honor able body the propriety of taking some steps towards utilising the large quantity of water that flows from so many springs that rise within tho immediate vicinity of the factory. The flow is continual, even in the dryest season, and should not bo wasted when our wants arc so great. Respectfully submitted. B. A. Morris, Chief Engineer Macon Fire Dep’t. The following report and recommenda tion of the Committee on Gas was re ceived, read and the recommendation adopted: The Committee on Gas beg leave to report that complaints are made to them in regard to the failure of the Gas Com pany to light the lamps in the latter part of the night; that when the moon goes down at one or two o'clock in tho morn ing the lamps aro not lighted during the balance of the night, thus leaving the city in darkness for several hours. Tho Committee recommend that the Chief of Police notify the Superintendent of tho Gas Company of this delinquency, and a-k that they see that it shall not be complained of in future. J. "VY. Burke, V. Kahn. Tho following report of the City Phy sician was received, read and ordered spread upon the minutes: Medical Department, Citt of Macon, November 11,1873. To the Honorable Mayor and Council: Gentlemen—I beg leave to submit my report for the month of October: During the month 1 have given attention and medicine to 35 adults and 6 children Bill for medicines during tho month $12 25.
