The Georgia Annual Conferenoo of the Methodist Episcopal Church South will meat in Macon no tho 17th of Dooembcr. The Methodists of this city havo begun early in making preparations for that im portant assemblage, and arc looking up homos for tho ministers and othor dele gate who will be in attendance. The hotly will bo composed of about two hundred men. including the lay represen tative*. The Firemen's Parade, The semi-annual parade of tho Macon Fire Department took place yesterday afternoon. Tho companies with their en gines met at tho City Hall, and thence proceeded to Mulberry Struct, in front of tho Busier House, when they were in spected by Chief K. A. Morris. All tho engines look to bo in splendid condition, hut tho turn-out of men was comparatively small. There was no tasting of engines, though No. 3 did a little playing after the parade was dis missed. The steamer worked well, os usual. . Fire. On Thursday night tho residence of Mr. H. McManus, situated about sown mile. from Macon on tho Thomas ton road, was burned, together with tho kitchen and smoke-house. Tin fin? was con. muni oiled to the roof by sparks from the chimney. It hail rnado very little headway when discovered, but there was no one on tho premise* but a couple of young ladies, who wors powerless to do Anything. The bouse and contents wore entirely consumed, causing a loss of not lest than throo thousand dollars, no part of which was insured. The Jlayur's Court. The Mayor bad hut two eases to dis pose of yesterday morning. George l'erkiu*, a young negro thief, whoso case was continued Irvin Thurs day, was up for a hearing, ami will havo to pay five dollars or go to tho park for ten day*. Ephraim -- —» colored, has been re garded as one of tho steadiest and most reliable negroes in or about Macon. Ho is sn employe of the t-oulhe - 't- ni rail- road, and is asid to bo one of Jho stead iest of the colored liands who run fU th; send. But Ephraim got off tho traei Thursday night, ou.l yesterday ho found hlsssslf before tho Mayor's Court, on tho trip!* charge of being drunk and disor derly, resisting on officer ami carrying concealed weapons. Ho drew hi* pistol as tbs officers wore convoying him to tho Umda, and had it corked and pointed at the breast of Lieutenant Hurley, when it was seized and taken from him. Lieu tenant Hurley and officer flroeo had all they could do to bring him to tho bar- IBI k<, but they finally lodged him there, land the Mayor fined him ono hundred dollars and thirty days on tho streets. II* ssid ho guessed ho could pay the money. Ephraim boa always borne a good char acter, anil this is the first time that he was ever known to ho drunk. The result of his spree will probably bo a temperance lecture, which rill make him a cold- water-man for life. He pays pretty dear for his experience; but it will powiby have a good effect upon him. He will let liquor alone hereafter. Man III-lltll. On. of the most hum ntable homi- i lej tii".'. • v.-r ' • ' ;' hi t'.:- ■ ty, »a committed about one o'clock yesterday uftomoon, at the public school in East Maoon. The occur ranee is especially la mentable. on account of the extreme youth both parti ijiants; ami also on account of its having occurred at one of the public schools of tho city. The cir cumstances are about as follows: Daring the noon rupees John Wall and Thomas Howard, in company with other lads, were engaged in a game of boll, when they had a dispute over the game, then a scuffle, and finally, both grew mad and a fight ensued. Howard struck Wall with a brick-hat, mid the latter drew a knife end inflictod three wounds upon Howard, tiro 6f which would have been fatal. There was a slight wound in the neck. In his back, on the left of the spine, was another wound which penetra ted to the tar^y, producing internal hemorrhage. This was a mortal wound. Tiie third wouai Was in the left thigh, a few Inches below the groin, which pene trated to and severed tho femoral artery. This, in all probability, was the wound winch was tho immediate cause of the death of tho lad. The fight between the lads tookplooe at the foot of the embankment near the old Central depot, which is now used as a school-house, noward, after being cut, had climbed up this embankment and walked some twenty feet toward the school-house, when he seek to the ground snd told his playmates to run for a doc tor- Those were the last words ho spoke, as be expired in a very few minute*—prob ably in leas than fire minute* after the cutting was done. Tho bleeding from this wound in the thigh was most profase, and by it the boy could be distinctly tracked from the plaoo where the cutting was done to where be fell and expired. As soon a* the cutting was over Wall dimppeared from the ground and has not boen seen since. It is supposed he went to his home, which is about two and a Krylf miles in tho country, near tho Jones oonnty line. Coroner Harman was notified of tho tragedy and was early upon tho grouml. He soon cropanelod a jury which, after receiving 'tho body, which was examined by Dr. McCreary, and hearing the testi mony of soino of the boys who were wit nesses to the transaction, rotarned a ver dict in accordance with tho above facts. Howard was a lad about sixteen year* old, and lived in East Macon with his mother, who is a widow. Ho woe at one time employed in Burko’s printing office. After the inquest his body was taken to hi* mother’s house turd prepared for burial. Wall 1* about tho samo age of How. aid. Ho is a eon of Mr. Brad. Wall, who is dead, and a grandson of Mr. John Low, one of the most respectable citizens ef the county. Ho hail been in the school but a short time, and was regarded as a quiet and peaceable lad. Up to a lato hour lost night he bad not been arrested. Thera were no witnesses to this tragedy except tho scliool-boys, mast of whom were small j but they all toll about tho samo tala in regard to it. It seems to havo been ono of those unfortunate oc currences, growing out of a sudden and uncontrollable burst of passion, leading the youth to seek to punish his antago- nist by tho infliction of severe personal injuries. No ono imagine* for a moment that tho boy meant to slay his playmate, and tho probability is that ho loft the ground unaware of tho fearful result of the injuries he had inflicted. THE aUPBRIOB COFHT. No Verdict Yet In tlic Pike Case. The jury in tho Pike case has been out since half post four o'clock Thursday eve ning, and, to outsiders, they seem to be no nearer a verdict now than they wero when they first went out. Of course, nothing is known as to tho sentiment of tho jury, and any opinion as to what tho verdict will bo is premature conjecture. Nio jury wero called down at fouro'clock yesterday afternoon, and tho sheriff was directed tp provide them supper and breakfast in their room. Having toiled to effect a private sale, I am now deter mined to sell, at public outcry, on MONDAY, THE FIRST DAY OF DECEMBER, (if not sold before.) provided I can on that day realize anything like on approximate value of the estab lishment, which includes Bower Press, Job Presses, Type, Stones, Paper Cutters,* etc., etc., the whole comprising abundant material for a Doily and Weeklv edition of the paper, and a first- class Job Office, all of which is in guod condition, and a great deal, including Power Press, of late make, is as good as new. Some advantages of buying: The paper and ob office already enjoy good patronage, estab- isbed for years. The location is one of the finest in the South. The railroad facilities for sending itscm-uln- tkm rapidly to great distances ahead of all other papers, are unexcelled. The mail facilities South and West of us are good and improving.
