Since his illness and recovery, and the pretentious National Thanksgiving at Si. I’aul's ho has, according to La Libertc, appeared at tha MobiUe. Ho had “the great Vance,” a vocal lAiffoon, popular at the Cockney mnsle halls, at Marlborough House, to entertain his guests, who m’gmtincntly advertised liimsclf as “patronized by the Prlnou of 'Wales.” Ho smuggled a brace of professional pugilists into Buckingham Palaco to entertain that semi-savage, the Shah of Persia, with a bruising match, to the infinite diagu .t of her Majesty, when the fact came to her ears. When the sons of the Khedive of Egypt, his guests, were overturned in the mini by a careless coachman, he magnanimously rode on, without stopping to inquire after their safety. Isk,- George IV, ho aspired to bocomo a leader of fashion, and thought of introducing a block velvet coat and knee breeches as “fall dress” evening costume, but abandoned tbo experiment on its transpiring and becoming food for public laughter. In short, tho character of his Royal Highness is such that only person* committed to what has been shrewdly called “the loyalty of natioal buuiptiousnesi” can pretend to havo any respect for him. Either ho must alter very much, or tho English people mnst grow very tame and spiritless to afford a pro pert of an untroublod accession to tho throne. rittSCE ALFRED, | the Hake of Edinburgh, j* smart, bnt mean, unprincipled and self-indulgent Ho looks nasty-tempered. As for his character and tastes, they aro no bettor than those of his elder brother plus a very distinct streak of avarice and dis honesty. When playing at serving on board tho Galatea he took leave to go ashore nt Marseilles, went to Paris and there stayed, refusing to return when summoned, until his debts amounted to a very considerable snra. Another navy officer would have liecn cashiered; he was promoted. Ho borrowed -Ek>0 from the pay chest of the Galatea, never re funding it. He played tho fiddlo at a. music liall. At Gibralta ho used to Blip out of bounds and bribe tho sentries in order to spree it ashore. During his travels he embraced the opportunity to amass an extraordinary variety of pres ents of nil sorts; but himself gave a very few in return to tho loyal colonists, for which tho nation paid about A3,500. He also allowed tho Australian recep tion committee to discharge Kino of his debts. It is alto a wcll-know.i fact, that will not soon bo forgotten by tho colonists, that he sold in ono part of the island a valuable team of horses which had been given to him in another. In all probability tho grand Bussing mar riage which has been contracted Jor him fouud its principal recommendation in his eyos in the bride’s dosriy. GOOD PntNCE AUTIIUB. Of Arthur I havo nothing but good to report. Ho is an amiable yonng gentle man and a good soldier. He has lectured on military matters, and introduced the German gamo of ”Kriegspiel.” Ho is vety popular among tho officers of the army, has a lodge or ranger’s house at Greenwich, and him recently been pre sented with Bagsliot House, near Wind sor, for a i csidence. Not long ago he purchased a yucht and went to Norway, presumably on a courting expedition, as no is to marry the sister of the Princess ot Walos. So for, Arthur is certainly the most premising member of tho British royal family. With tho exception of the Princes* Koy.il. niarriod to Frederick William, Crown Frinco of Prussia, none of her Majesty’s daughters have made B ry good matches, or are particularly ppy.
