Tho visit waa a very suggostivo one, and hintoil at more than wo have cither tho timo or space to say now, therefore we defer it to some time in tho near future. Cutting AtTrny. A difficulty occurred on Colton avouuo yesterday afternoon, between S. D. Rainey and J. J. Dunn, in which Mr. Rainey re ceived a severe cut in tho loft aido of tho abdomen,producing a serious wound, but it is lielieved, not a dangerous one. The knife did not quite penetrate tho cavity. Mr. Dunn waa arrested and looked in tho barrack ?. He is an employe of the Dixie works. Cokinines for All. A1 suit two weeks ago G, M. Ivey, kuowu us ••Dull" Ivey, and his cou in Truman Conwell, both of Jasper county, were on their wov 'M -‘im upon Key’s remonstrating with him for halloo- ing so loudly, an altercation ensued, during which Conwell drew a pistol and shot Key, indicting a mortal wound. Whatever is said of this firm in Colum bus is fully sustained in Macon. Tho house is one of tho largest in the South. It carries an'immense stock of good*, buys strictly for cosh, and consequently at tho very lowest prices. They had a mammoth stock in store a short while ago; hut so greatly line it been reduced that they havo been forced to enter the market again, and by tho first of Jan uary will havo in store a bran new and very largo stock, bought for cash when tho market wa3 most depressed by tho panic. A cutting affray took place over in E.iit Maeon yesterday evening, in which Charles Bowers received pretty rough treatment at the hands of Roger McCall. The fuss grow out of a dog light. Bow ers wa? cut with a knife, in the head and also in tho stomach, both wounds being severe ones. Officer Fennel, in attempting to arrest McCall, wttf knocked down with a brick bat, Ho rallied, however, and with a Mow or two from his baton, mollified McCall, and brought him over to tho bar rack* and looted him up. Suddenly he.was mi . si'll from liis cabin one morning, and upon searching for him, he was found dead in a field near by and his body cov ered with sores. He was removed to his cabin and laid out in state, where he was visited by nearly every negro in the neighborhood. When a physician arrived to examine the corpse, he uiseovorod that j the man had died of small-pox. It is now believed that there ia oa much rea son for building schoolbouses with ex clusive reference io the purposes for which they nre intended as there is for so constructing dwelling-houses. But it is not in reply to this part of tho communication that this article is written. Tho objoet is to correct the eironous im pression that the rolhill lot was pur chased with a view to erecting thereon, at this time, a school-house corresponding . to tho one for which tho foundation is being prepared in South Macon. The object of the purchase was to secure a central location tor our high school; and by purchasing this property not only was one of the best location* in the eity for the purpose secured, but the buildings on the lot can be so utilized as to make it unnecessary for the city to erect a build ing there for several years.
