Quito a number of the citizens of Ma
con, Augusta, Jones county and other
sections of the State barn arranged to
have a grand fox hunt about six miles
from the city to-day. Tboy wore to take
breakfast at Valentino’s restaurant at 3
o’clock this morning, and thon go at once
to the field. There are present about
twenty of the host dogs in the State, nnd

mayor offered to mind him for a dollar a
day. but council refuted to [ay it on the
gro ind that the charge was exorbitant.
Therefore the chain gang got away an i
the marshal has not succeeded in re
capturing him.
Byron baa a marshal also, whose pres
ent salary is five dollars a month, but an
ord;nan eis pending in council looking
to a redaction of that salary, on the
gri und that it it extortionate and ought
not to be paid tbeae hard times. Byron
is economical.
Taking the railroad as a centre, and
describing a circle with a radius of
three-quarters of a mile, we have the
area of Byron. It is a good large patch
of ground. It is not all built upon yet,
but tbo citizens are waiting for an influx
of population and a rise in Cotton, to en-
able them to above forward the march
of improvement. They are in solemn
earnest about their town, and have faith
in it. The city has not a dollar’s worth
of landed debt, owes no floating debt,
has no credit and wants none, for there
is $27 30 in the treasury.
The points in the above history of
Byron we obtained in an interview with
one ot her city officials; hence they may
be relied upon as mathematically and
historically correct.

The Wallace Slatera.
Despite the inclemency of the weather,
a very fair audience assembled last even
ingnt Kul-ton Ilall to witness the initial
performance of this talented combina
tion, and if abundant demonstration of
hearty applanse is any ovidenco of appre
ciation, we can safety say that the fair
sisters made a “palpable.hit.” The piece
of the evening was from the pen of Ameri
ca's favorite dramatic author, Fred. Marr-
den, Esq., and entitled, “Jacquette; or. In
the Toils." With a plot of deep ro-
umntic interest, clothed in language the
most refined, and abounding in situations
startlingly effective, it at once gives scope
for the display of unusual dramatic abil
ity, and sympathetically carries the au
dience throughout its entirety in contin
ue<l and unabated appreciation.
The fair Miss Jennie assumed the ti
tle role and gavo abundant evidonce of
extraordinary histrionic talent. Her
versatility Is certainly remarkablo, as
suming with equal ease and graco the
characteristics belonging to the different
situations she was called upon to repre
sent, Her gaiety in tbo lighter scenes
were given in admirable contrast to the
deep pathos of the parting fiom home
and friends.
Misses Minnie and Maud rendered
ample assistance in their respective
characters, and the support given by the
stock company was most prnisoworthy.

Our Family Bread
Truly the mbst important adultera
tions to avoid are those which are calcu
lated to injure tho ‘staff of life,” our
family bread. We know that merchants
bo supply their customers with pure ar
ticles like Dr. Price’s Cream Baking Pow
der and his True Flavoring Kx tracts .rets in
better patrons, havo a larger trade, and
mike more money than those who buy
and recommend articles that are poor and
cheap. Besides it’s a pleasure to have
articles that never fail to give satisfac
tion, and that am lie used with safety.
Aside from its excellence. Dr. Price’s
Cream Baking Powder is one-third
stronger, two cans equal to three of
other kinds.
Hubs Rat Kilim*
The quiet village of Reynolds was un
ceremoniously aroused by the squeaks of
ninety-seven large rats, some of them
tho largest ever seen in that community.
The g.-anary of Messrs. Hines A Godard
was tho scene of this enormous butch
ery. and it wo* the work of Mr. Edward
A < Ward and 7,uek Hicks. Messrs. H.
A G. seeing the miraculous disappear-
so t of their corn, could account for it
in oo other way than by concluding the
l nr legged rats were doing the business.
To y accordingly commenced the removal
ot ueir corn,.and the stampede of the
rats ootnnieneed, and with it, sticks and
boot-heels accomplished the result as
above statist. Ninety-seven of the bug
gers were rn.ule to squeak their last time,
and that little village is rid of at least
that number of the most destructive
and troublesome of all known household
port*.
