The Cost.
Referring to tho howl that ia being
raised by tho opponents of convention—
who don’t caro n continental abont tho
matter except as it may end in moving
tho Capitol from it* present location-
over tho expense of such convention, it
may not bo amiss to recall tho following
facta: That tho convention of 1865 con'
sisted of over tbreo hundred delegates,
was in session fourteen days, and cost
only about $39,000. Tko convention pro
posed this year will consist of abont one
' hundred and ninety delegates, and will
certainly not put tho per diem higher
than five or six dollars, and could easily
finish its labors in twelve days if com'
posed of tho right material.
AU sensible people are getting thoi-
onghly disgusted with this hypocritical,
selfish plea of "expense.” They know 08
well as men can know anything, that the
inspiration of the howl is a fear that
somebody’s real ostato and business may
suffer if the majority voto should be ad'
verse to these Interests by deciding on a
change in tho seat of government. At
lanta is fighting Ibe Convention because
she may lose the Capitol, if one should be
called. That is plain as Cronin’s nose
and is very natural. We should do so,
too, if wo lived up there. Oar only point
now is that the cry of “expense” is, to
use the “expressivo’ language of the Hon.
