stand of Marteni-Henry rifles are being
removed from the racks in the Tower
of Loudon, presumably for tbe equipment
of the reserves. There is great activity
at Portsmouth in preparing fillings for

to armed embers. A certain manufac
turing firm has received from tbe Admir
alty an order for more than one hundred
wire torpedo nets for the protection of
ships from attacks of fish torpedoes. All

Immense quantities of shot and shells are
being issued from tbe Woolwich arsenal
in ali directions. Tbe first Indian expe>
ditionary force will embark from Bom
bay. Two divisions will leave to-day,
consisting of two batteries of royal artil
lery, tho 13th and 31st rcgimezte, Second
Goorkhoa and two companies of sappers
and miners. The second will embark aa
soon as possible. It will consist of tbe
9th Cavalry, the 1st Bombay Lancers, 9th
and 26th Bombay Infantry, and two
companies of sappers and miners.
Congressional Notes.
Washington, April 29.—In tho Sen
ate—Daring the morning hoar Senator
Conover, of Florida, called up a resola
tion submitted by him on the 20:hof
March last, requesting the President to
communicate to tbe Senate certain in

Cuban insurgents and the future policy
of Spain in tbe government of the island
of Cuba. He made a brief statement in
support of the resolution, after which it
was unanimously agreed to.
Representative Scnleicher has prepared
an omnibus bill for railroads and canals,
making two hundred and fifty millions
immediately available. It provides for
a road from Southern Mississippi to tbe
Pacific, but designates no route.

tee on coins, weights and measores this
