City Council.
There was no meeting of tbe city Coun

of a quorum. Tbero will be a meeting of
tbe body tbla evening, at tbo usual boor,
at tbo City Hall. Soveral important

who have been spending several days on
this beautiful aeaside isle, composed of
Mr. Jos. Cliaby and lady, Jndge Ward
Dr. C. H. Hail and Mr. A. It. Tinsley and
others, has been beard from. All wero
quite well, and were enjoying themselve*.
The probability is that there will be quito
a bagira to tbe island in the next few
weeks, as we bear of quite a number of
p trills being formed, both in and out of
tbe city.

Toe funeral of little lima Hill, infant
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. HiU, took
place yesterday afternoon. Tbe funeral
sermon was preached by Dr. T. E. Skin
nar, of the First Baptist Church, at tho
grave, in Bose Hill Cemetery. Tbo ser
vice was very impressive. Tbo remarks
of the Doctor wero abort. Under tbe
trees, witb tbo solemn surroundings of
tbe burial irtound, the services made a
deep impression upon all.

The Macon Volunteers.
Aft me parade on Memorial Day,
Captain Carnes notified tbe Macon Vol
nnteora that hereafter there will be a
meeting of tbo company every Mon
day nigbt, acd there was quite a large
attendance at tbe first of these weekly
meetings last Monday evening.
Tbe main object of these meetings is,
of coarse, to keep the men ap in tbe drill,
bat it is intended to a,o them, also, aa a
means of cultivating a closer aeqaaint-
anoe and friendship among tbe members
of Ibe company.
Aside from the advantage of keeping
bright in the drill, tbo members will soon
learn to enjoy these meetings as pleasan*
weekly gatherings, when tbe work of the
evening iu closed witb musio or other
pleasant recreation.
While in the armory, tbe company will
be neder tbo oontrol of tbe by-ltws and
of tbe officers, and nothing will be per
mitted Ibat oonli be objectionable to any
member.
Tbe nigbt appointed for these meet
inga (Monday) is one on which the yonng
men are generally disengaged and we
think it likely that the “company night”
will soon bo as regularly noted is “lodge
night.”
Tbe honorary members of the company
aro entitled to tbe freedom of the ball
and will be always woleome at meetings.
Activo members who fail to attend
tbeso meetings will be fined, and wil 1
thus be made to contribute their share to
the financial improvement of the com
pany if not otherwise.
Wo learn that tbo now movemant is
quite popular among tho members.
Even somo of tho old folks of tbo compa
ny promise to pat in an appearance on
tbe company night.
We hope that the plan will succeed
witb tbo Volunotaxs and that it will be
imitated by cur other military organism
tionsand that tho military feeling will bo
revived.

for thw past fow days over tho rumor that
tbe Oanttal road bad commenced to bnild
a now freight depot at tho foot of Mul
berry street, that the dirt had been bro-
kon and the timbers wero on tho gronnd.
This statement was strengthened by a
large iot of boavy timber which was de
posited on tbe spot said to have been so-
lsoted for tho new depot. Inquiry of
tbeofiloials of tbo road revealod Ihe fact
that thoinoipient atrnotnra was a obild of

the directors of tbo road wish when tho

be one of pleasure.
The company w,ll leave on the Co-
Iambus train this morning at 8:46 o'clock
and will return either at 4:47 or 5:60 in
the afternoon.
It will be well to remember that the
railroad time is ten minutes faster than
city time, and parties should govern
themselves accordingly. Ail are request
ed to purchase tickets before they get on
the cam, as otherwise they will have to
pay full fare both ways.
The tickets must be booght to Seago,
and will cost fifty cent! for the round

Through the Floor,
On Sunday afternoon quito an excite
ment occurred at ono of tho colored
churches of tho city, which at tho time
might havo been serious, but soon as
sumed tho cast of the ridiculous.
Tho religious terror had been steadily
rising, and (he shooting and singing
growing more f arions. They wero abou
to engage in tbo rite of foot-washing,
when a poition of the floor snddonly gave
way, and pait of the oongregation was
lowered to the gronnd. Tbo soene of
oonsternation which followed was quito a
sight. It 1b related that the ebon pa6tor
sighed for fresh air, and found it through
a window, some seconds in advance of any
of. his oharge. Deaoons, sisters and
brethren followed in qmok succession,
until tbe ohnroh seemed like a volcano,
sponting oat hago (oarmalino rocks.
Order was after awhile rostered. No
casualties were found to have occurred,
and tbo services were resumed at the
point of interrnption, and peaoo reigned
again in Tybee.

Strawberry Festival.
Tbo festival given by the ladies
of Christ Church for the benefit of the
East Macon episcopal Mission Sunday
school, at Ayct'a Park, cn Third street,
was a very pleasant affair. A large num
ber of the friends of the yonng Sunday
echool were present and aided not only
by their presence, but in a more lasting
manner tho smuggling little band.
The refreshments were unsurpassed
sod the ladies in attendance upon the
tables msdo the occasion one of great
pleasure to all present. The festival
was continued lato into tho evening: Wo
hope so pleasant an ontertainmect will
be repeated at an early date.

At the meeting of tho Young Men's
Christian Association last evening, tbe
following officers were elected for the en
suing term of six months:
President-^!!. F. Burden.
First Vice President—W. W. Dc Ha
ven.
Second Vico President—E. 8. McLean
Secretary—H. T. Conner.
Treasurer—L. W. Smith.
Directors—H. H. Jones, W. B. Hill,
S. T. Gaerry, C. E. Long, S. S. Little.
The Association is preparing some
highly interesting meetings, the first of
which will be held in May, and to which
the publio will be invited. It will he an
occasion for a rallying of all the friends
of the institution: The Association has
taken a brave and determined start for
its next term, and will bold up its front
to the rejoioing of its friends and the
discomfiture of its few and obstinate op
ponents,
The Brown House.
Tho work of tho adjusters of the
Brown House insurance still goes on.
What will be the result of their labors
cannot bo definitely stated just now.
Whether tbo insurance companies will
rebuild or pay tho in&uranco cannot be
known nttbis stage of the proceedings.
Tho indications all point, however, to
the conclusion that before tho State Fair
in October a now and handsome house
will stand on tho ruins of the old hotel.
Crimn's Garden.
Everybody nearly was at Griffin’s first
reception IsGt night at his new and hand
some garden. Tbe crowd tbroughont tho
evening was large. Maura’s string hand
waa in attendance and lent the charms
of music to the occasion. Hr. Griffin has
a place now which will vie with any aim-
lar establishment in the State. He has
spared no pains to make his garden at
tractive. We are nnder obligations to
him, not withstanding the rash of callers
lost night for remembrances of this of
fice.
Our Park.
The Pork is now in elegant order, and
no more attractive place can be fonnd in
the State for a picnic. It combines for
excursionists the attractions of shade and
rural scenery, without tho discomfits of a
picnic given in the woeds, with no houses
near in which the weary can find relief
from the sunshine and heat. In fact, it
is just os attractive as can be.
We are ptond of oar Pork, and in order
to give everybody an opportunity of en
joying it with ns, schools and parties
rom neighboring places contemplating
picnics are cordially invited to use the
park ter their day’s recreation.
To excursion parties who intend mak
ing Maccn an objective point permission
to use tho pare will bo freely granted by
the Major on application. Last year
quite a number of schools visited Macon
aud wero delighted with the park. We
hope thid year others will follow their
example. We hear of several excursions
which contemplate coming to our city.
We will be glad to see them.
New York Store.
Judging from tbe number of ladic3 that
daily visit and purchase their goods at
the New York Store of S. Waxelbaum &
Brother, Mulberry street is anything but
oat of tbe way, and from all appearances
it is just where tbe retail trade will con
centrate.
This Temple of Fashiou is certainly the
handsomest dry goods emporium in the
South, and Messrs. 8. Waxelbaum &
Brother hove tho largest and best selected
slock of any house in this eection, and
they guarantee to sell goods as cheap as
they aro retailed in New York. From
tbo ciowda of ladies of adjacent towns
that visit this establishment each day
we gather tho fact that the increased bus
iness and chsngo of location is well un
derstood by all. api29 3t

and sleepless nights, have walked the floor am
resortod to different methods for relief, to no
purpose. I finally thought I would give Vege-
tine a trial, with little faith, I will admit, hat to
my surprise and great relief, a few doses con
vinced me that I had got hold of tho right thing
for my difficulty. It aent out humor from my
blood that, I have no doubt, was the cause of tho
misery I had endured, and I found relief as soon
as a modicino could relieve a disease of that kind,
When I began its use I seldom got a night’s rest,
or hall a one. and my appetito was poor, and as a
consequence I was running down rapidly: but
alter a few doses i saw a radical change in overy

upon tbe causes of these complaints. It invigo
rates and strengthens the whole system, acts
upon the secretive organs, allays inflammation,
cleanses and cures ulceration, cures constipation,
regulates the bowels, headache and pains in tho

and is so effective in its cure, as in what is term
