Mr. J. M. S. Wedlock, of tbe Swainsbo-
ri Herald, was registered at tba Brown
Honse last night.
R,v. J. B. Chavis, of Griffin, ia in tbo
city.
Hod. R. L. Molt, of Columbus, was a
guest of tbe Brown House lost evening,
on bis w.y to MHIedgeville. Dr. Mott
was one of tbs old residents and early set
tlers of Macon. He is ona of the trustees
of the Lunatic Asylum, and goes over to
look after the interests of the institution.
The loss by the fire, as first reported, will
probably be reduced.
Mr. J. G. Burras, of Columbus, was in
tbe city lost evening.
Mr. E. H. McLaren and lady returned
from the North yesterday and were regis
tered at tbe Brown House last evening.

ders took place last evening at Masonic
Hall.
The scheme consisted of one thousand
tickets, and nearly every one had been
sold: The hall was filled with ticket
holders and every seat waa occupied, und
many unable to obtain seats were stand
ing in the rear portion of the hall- y
Shortly after eight o'clock the drawing
commenced. Tho few remaining tick
ets had been sold and the whole num
ber placed ia a glass wheel on the stige.
In another wheel were plaoed slips of
card board on whioh were written tbe
names ot the prizes. A ticket was drawn
by a lad from ona wheel and a prizs from
the other by a second boy, and the ‘ num
ber drawn took tbe corresponding' prize.
Captain S. S. Dunlap presided over the
wheo with the tlokets, and Captain
Carnes over that with tho prizes. The
largo audience was quite Interested, as
muoh so as If tho Louisiana State Lot
tery was about to have a drawing, with a
capital prizj of f30,000.
Tho drawing progressed slowly. The
first excitement was caused by ticket
CGI, whose corresponding gift ticket was
tbo ladies’ hunting gold watch and chain.
