was equally abundant and effioiont, and

ever, email, its growth having been retar
ded some two weeks by cold nights and
boavy rains, which bava prevailed
throughout tbe spring months, and havo
rendered tbe Holds in a few sections
grassy; nevertheless complaints are few.
Since the middle of May tbo weather has
boon dry and warm and altogether favor-
ablo to the crop, which la now rapidly
recovering from its drawbacks, and prom
ises to be excellent. There has been no
exodua of labor, which seems to be scarce
only in those sections where there is a
large increase in Dlantiug.

There were 33 replies from 15 oonnties;
there has been a slight Increase in acre

May tbe woatbor bas been very favorable.

Washington.
Washington, June9.—In tbe House,
tbe following were among the bills in
troduced and referred : By Upson, of
Texas, for tba erection posts for the proa
tection of the Kto Grande frontier; Hen
tie, uf Maryland, amending the law= re
lating to internal revenue stamps for ci<
gars. Atkina, of Tennessee, chairman
of the Committee on Appropriation, re
ported a substitute for the Legislative,
Judicial and Executive Appropriation
bill, stating that it was a unanimous re
port, and moved to suspend the ruled and
pnt the pill on its passage. Tbe bill ap
propriates Ill a same amount as was ap
propria ted laat year, and for the same
pu roosee, with a few exceptions and makes
independent appropriations. The salaries
of the southern claims commission are
contiuuf d to May, 1830. It appropriates
$23,000 for expenses of a delegate to the
mlernatiou convention ; $130,CKA) for tile-
payment of salaries of storekeepers and
gaugers in the Southern State made nec
essary by the increased nnmber of distil
leries. It does not contain appropriations
for the contingent expenses of the courts,
which are provided for in a separate
hill.
Mr. Hawley aaid that while there were
objectionable features in tbe bill, the
Government eoold live nnder it, and the
Kepnblieans rather consented to its pas
sage than approved it. Tbo bill was then
passed nnder a suspension of tbo rules by
a vote of 183 to 21. The negative votes
were given by Cabell, Clark of Miaaonri,
Cox, Uann, Elam, Finley, Frost, Gunter,
lion tie. Hard, Knott, Manning, McMil
lan, Niohols, Robertson of Louisians,
Hlemons, Smith of New York, O. Tarner.
Wniteborne and Wilaon.
MoMabon, of Ohio, from the Commit
tee on Appropriations, reported a bill
making appropriations for tbe jndioial
expenses of tbe Government for the fiscal
year ending June 30Ji, 1880. Ordered
printed and recommitted.
Reagan, of Texas, moved to suspend
(he rales, and pass tbe bill inlroduood by
Casey Young, appropriating thirty thou
sand dollars for the oonslruotion of tbo
marine hospital and MtunpbU seminary ;
agreed to.
Ryan, of Kansas, moved to suspend
tho rales, and pass the army appropria
tion bill preolsoly as it wai reported on
Jane G-h from tho Appropriation Com
mittee, by (Jlymer, of Pennsylvania.
Atkins, of Tennessee, moved to ad-
jonro, whiob was agreed by a vote of 105
to 100, nearly a parly vote.
Iu tho Senato Mr. Harris deprecated
tbo lioe of agument pursued by tho
othor aide, which inevitably must revive
ssotional bitterness, and tend to obscure
the real issue. Ho argued that the Con
stitution gives tbe States the exclusive
authority over the qualifications of voters,
leaving Congress only tho power to cause
elections to be held, should States refuse
to do so, this being intended as a moans
of self-proBeryation and not to be usod in
ordinary cases. There is no constitu
tional authority for the appointment of
supervisors and marshals of elections,
who, though nominally acting toprovont
fraud, really engage in it. In tbo inter
ests of party, their devotion to which is
the chief ground for their selection. It
is useless, he added, for Slates to pre
scribe qualifications for voters, as its du
ty is, if those officers can ovorride State
laws and dictate according to their pleas
ure who may or may not vote—no State
is so corrupt as not to be trusted with
the conduct of its own cleotions. After
quoting from testimony showing the
corrupt practices which have grown up
under these laws, Mr. Harris closed by
earnestly expressing a dosire for the
return cf the simpler and eafer constitu
tional methods.
The Democratic Senators held a caucus
Boon after adjournment to-day, to consid
er the advieibility of taking final action
upon the Warner silver bill daring the
present session. Three hours consulta
tion developed such irreconcilable differ
ences of opinion among Senators present
that the canous broke up without having
taken any action whatever, either with
regard to the merits of tbe bill or the
pending motion of Mr. Coke to bring it
directly before the Senate by discharging
the committee.

I bought Fifty Pounds of Shoenfeld’s Medi
cated Stock Feed about three weeks ago and
tried it on my Mules, Horses. Cows and Chick-

it* virtues. In fact it is the best thing lever

he commenced to improve from tho start. I
could never fatten him -t wav J^rommenced the
use ol tne Stock Feed, vPKTue is now in fine
order. 1 also tried it with my Cows with the
same result*. I will let my neighbors know it.
