FROM WASHINGTON.
The SpofTord Kellogg Case—Congress
—Adjournment 17th Inst.
Washington, Jane 10.—Tbe Spolford-
Ktllagg caso was resamod. Judge Mer
rick, forjudge Spciford, said bo bad no
witnesses to examine at present. Ho was
entitled to two moro and expected they
would bo horo, but preferred not to tell
when ns they might bo captured by tbe
other side. He should have some docu
mentary avidenoe, but a i» u„t yet pre
pared.
Senator Saulsbary, Ohairman, said as
it seemed probable that Congress would
adjourn at tbo ond of this or the com
mencement of next tvook, he doabted
whether, after adjournment, a qnornm of
the committee could bo held together.
Therefore it would be well to put in all
available testimony by that time.
Judge Sbellabargcr said several of
Kellogg’s witnesses are expected to
morrow. Ho bad none to-day.
It was unanimously nereod by the
committee that tbo affidivita berotofore
offered to be admitted as evidence.
Merrick said bo would pat in bis doc
umentary evidence to-morrow.
Hill called up the question of paying
Jules Lsvcigncs bis witness fees. Ho ob
jected to tbo payment on tbe ground that
tho witness bad said bo bad deliberately
and intentionally decoivod the parties
who aubpceiaed bim. The commutes
should protect itself and tbo Sonato, and
ds nothing that would make it conven
ient for any man to come here at tbo ex
panse of tho Goveronment and impose
uo somebody by testifying directly.con
trary to what ho may have stated in an
affidavit or other form. There should be
protection from snch imposition.
Kernan remarked that he had never
heard of a rule to deny paymont of foes
of a witness who bad been subpoenaed by
tbe Government. Bosidos, if pay were
related it would be said it waa for the
reason that tho witness, denying tin?
truth of hie affidavit, awore to something
different.
Bailey remarked that this witness was
svidently a base and bad man and merit
ed tbe penitentiary; yot having been sub
poenaed by government bo ongbt to be
paid.
Ingalls said hie impression was from
tbe testimony that the witness imposed
on Spofford'u attorney for the purpose of
disclosing ft conspiracy, the parpose of
which was to deprive Kellogg of his seat.
If witness had notobeyid tbo aubpmaa
bo would have been amenablo to con
tempt, ... - ,
Tbo obairman aabl tho witness having
obeyed the summons of the committee
ongbt to be paid.
Remarks were made by other Senators
when the question was taken on Hills
motion that Leveignes bo not paid, and
disagreed to—Hill and Vance only voting
in tho affirmative, nnd Kernan, Bailey,
Cameron and Ingalls in tbo negative.
Hoar not being present when the discus
sion took plaoe excused himself from vot
ing. The nommitteo adjourned until to
morrow.
Washington, June 10.—In tbe House
Morrison, of Illinois, from the Commit
tee on Ways and Means, reported n reso
lution providing for tbe final adjourn
ment of Congress at 13 o'clock on Jane
17th. Adopted.
Harris, of Virgina, asked leave to offer
a joint resolution appropriating three
thousand dollars for a inonnment to
mark tho birth-place of George Wash
ington. He remarked that tbo house of
Washington^ parents bad disappeared,
and that nothing remninod to show to
posterity whero tbe father of hie country
was boro. Tbo Speaker asked whether
there was any objection to the joint
resolution. .,
Garfield replied, “None on this side, I
cm sure.”
Thera was no objection and tbe joint
resolution passed.
In Senate, at 1:25 p. m. the legisla
tive, execntlv* and judicial appropriation
bill was received from the House and re
ferred to tho committee on appropria-
tions.
Tnc concurrent resolution providing
for adjournment on June lrtb, was also
reoeiytd and referred to the committee
on appropriation. . .
MaoMabon, of Ohio, reported back
from tbo appropriation committee the
bill making appropriations for oeitain
judicial expenses of government. It wee
referred to committee of the whole and
tbo Hoase immediately went Into oom-
inittee—t|l general debate on tbe bill be
ing limited to forty minutes.

speak thereon.
Oa motion of Mr. Voorhees, tbe Home
joint resolution providing for the erection
of a monument to mark tbs birth-place
of Georgo Washington was taken up and
passed without a dissenting voice.
On motion of Mr. Bayard tbo Senate
then took np tbo bill reported yesterday
from tbe Jndioiary Committee for the re
moval of the political disabilities of Mr.
James F. Harrison, ef Virginia, and after
some remarks by Mr. Beck, it was passed,
Bills were also paade for the same pur
pose in the case of Arthur F. Bigby, of
Texas.
Mr. Call introduced a bill establishing
an additional land district in Florida, and
a life-saving service at Capo Bias, If lor i
da. Referred.
The Senate then went into executive
session, and afterwsrdsadjourned.
Senator Jones, of Florida, stated this
afternoon Ihut lie voted aghiiwit taking
np Mr. Coke’s resolution to discharge
the fiasnoe committee from further con
sideration of the House silver bill because
after a" osrefnl oanvans of the votes, ho
believed the bill would fall to pass tbs
Senate, that lie defeat would be more
injurious to the Democratic party than
its postponement for a full con
sideration next Deoembar. He ad
ded that Lis views heretofore ex
pressed on the silver question re
main unchanged, and that ho is entirely
in favor of the objects of tbo pending bill.
At one o’oiook tbe Hon9e went Into the
oommittee of tbo whole, Mr. Bliokbam
in tho ohalr. and proceeded to disonss
the bill providing for tbe Jadioiul expen
ses of Ibe Government, the general do-
Lmto being limited to forty minutes. Af
tar n few remarks from Mr. lieok, expla
natory of the bill, Mr. Garfield said he
could not vote for It; tbo cUnao referr
ing to title SGoftbo revised aUtatea not
only nrgleoted to appropriate, but nulli
fied the enforcement and execution of
tbo laws. It was only an indirect way of
doing temporarily for one year what
Congress oould not do absolutely and
permanently. He also oritloised tbs
clause prohibiting tbe Government from
inonrring liabilities for whioh no appro
priations has born specially made, saying
that the present laws oommand tbe exec
utive to perform daties which tbe bill
forbid him to perform If he thereby
inoars any liabilities.
Mr. Garfield was replied to by Mr.
MaoMabon, of Ohio, who said that the
Democrats had uniformly voted for tho
appropriation bill] and tbe Bepnblicans
against them. That what tbe Demo
crats desired was to have fair and free
elections and to deprive tbe other side o
the power to pat partisans at tho polls,
nesaid biscolleagao(Mr. Garfield,) bad
got np a new catchword. A while ago
members of the majority were called
“Bevolntionists;” now they are '•Nnllifi-
ers.” The general debate then closed
and tbo committee proceeded to consider
the bill by sections. Oa motion of Mr.
Finley, of Ohio, an amendment was
adopted, providing that the names of ju
rors shall be pt&oed in a box by tne clerk
and commssioner alternately “withont’re-
forence to party affiliations.’’ Many other
amendments were proposed, but all re
jected or ruled oat. Tbe committee then
rose. The bill waa reported to the House
and passed, yeas, 102; nay e, 85; a strict
party vote, and tbe House adjourned.

lX*Nr imt—Thinking that » statement of my
caso ms j meet tho eja of some one snfferhuc
from Soro'ala, I be* you to publish the following*
which 1 cheerfully furnish of my own free will.
1 have l >*n afflicted with Scrofulous Humor
from by birth, and at times very badly. When
about six yesrs old the disease made its appear*
since ou my held, and it wu deemed advisable
to have thd hair shared, but they Wore obliged
to cut it off with embroidery scissors, as my
head was so sore I could net hare it shaved.
After wo had succeeded in healiegthe sores on
tl»o outside they broktsbul ou thu inude. caus
ing me greAt There have been times when
the surface of my hands was all raw from tbe
e&Mt of this humor, and no pen can describe tho
great suffering I have endured.
About three years ago small kernel* made
their appearance on the cords of my neck, sev-
cjhI of which grew into quite large turnon, and
nothing which we could use would remove
them. My whole system was so full of scrofu
lous humor that it seemed ready to burst
through thoskin at all parts of my body, and I
w&s in a terrible weak and feeble condition.
The tumors on my neck had grown to such n
sire as to disfigure me badly. ‘When in this
hopeless condition I was advised by a friend to
try the Vegetine. and I at once commenced tak*
ing it, and after 1 had used it a short time tbe
tumors commenced discharging, and I do not
think thst I overestimate the quantity from
each tumor whan I say that a good-sized teacup
ful of corruption ran out, after which they com
menced to heal up and disappear.and now »y
r.eck is as smooth and free from bunches as any
lady's.
1 believe the Yegetine has entirely cleansed
avoir taint ot scrofula from my system, and I
desire tohsve this statement publisbeJ, so that
other sufferers may find relief, as they surely
wilt do. if they try the Veretine.
It will afford me pleasure to give any further
information relative to my ciue tj all who will

Dear Sir—I have been troubled with Canker
from childhood, causing my mouth to be so sore
at times that I was unable to eat. Have taken
many preparations, but with no effect until I
tried your Vegetine. After taking a few doses I
found it relieved the fsintuess at the stomach
chit always accompanies Canker Humor: and
by the time 1 had taken the third bottle my
mouth wss entirely cured. Have not been
troubled with it since that time, which is eight
months ago. I have recommended it to several
of my arquaintanrej, and every ono spsnks favor

I bought Fifty Pounds ot Shoenfeld’s Medi
cated Stock Feed about three weeks ago and
tried it on my Mules, Horse9, Cowa and Chick-
ens, and will vouch for all you say in regard to
its virtues. In fnct it is the best thing I ever
saw in my life. I gave it to one of my Mules
which waa looking worse than the balance and
be commenced to improve from tho start. I
could never fatten him before I commenced tho
use of toe Stock Feed, and he is now in flue
order, i also triod it with my Cows with the
same results. X will let mv neighbors know it*
