Loud js, Juno 20.—It is reported that
s largo firm in Liverpool, trading chiefly
in cotton, is in difficulties, owing to the
irregularities of one of the partners, who
bis absconded. Assurance is given that
the other partner, now on hia way home
from abroad, will be able to pay in fall.

could be no donbt that the Prince was
killed.
A party of the 17th Lancers, with am
balances, started on tho 2nd instant, to
recover the body of tho Prince, which
was found and brought in on the same
day.

following particulars: The body of the
Prince, when fonnd, lay on its back.
There were eighteen as.egai stabs m it
—two of them piercing (he body from
ihe cheat to tho back, two inside,
and one destroying the right eye.
A locket with hair medallions and a
reliquary were found aronnd his neok.
The face wore a placid expression. He
bad evidently ineffectually tried to monnf

both having been assegaied. The Prince

Co., a German exporting honse. Tho
name of tho person who absconded is
Krnest Welter. It is stated the firm
will repudiate the greater part of Wehor’a
transactions.

Taxation In I-onlalana.
Nxw Oblxans, Jano 20.—The Con
vention to day adopted article 8, intro
duced by the Committee on Taxation,
providing that the Stato tax on property
for all purposes whatever shall not ex
ceed five mills. There was a lively and
somewhat stormy debate on this point.
The opposition claimed that it was evi
dent that with the tax only five mills on
the dollar the revenues wonld not ba
sufficient to carry on the government and
pay the interest on the debt; its adop
tion would bo the repudiation of the
debt. It was claimed cn the other side
that tbo five mills tax would produce
sufficient revenue to support tho State
to address the Senate, and at 12.20 a. in,
he iB still speaking.
