was given to ihe jury at 5:15 p. m. Tney
returned to ihe conrt rorra at 6:25 with a
verdict cf guilty of murder in the first
degree. The prisoner appeared to be en
tirely nnmoved, except that his face
blanched a little when ihn verdict was an
nounced. Judge Cowing then sentenced
the prisoner to bo hanged on the 29.0 of
Augu-t and he was taken back to tho
