Wealthy Immigration.
New York. July 20.—The steamship
Moselle, from Bremen, which arrived to
a.y, brought over six hundred steerage
passengers, most of whom are Russians,
the litter alone represent a capital of
more than four hundred thousand dollars.
Among tnem are sixty families having
213 children. They are a remarkably
tin-' looking party.
Stamford,Conn., July 20.—The steam
er G. J. O.ipaanc struck on a rock early
this morning in Stamford harbor, and
sunk. She was advertised to make an
excursion to Conev Island to-day.
Buffalo, July 20.—Irving Hall, one
of tne firemen injured by the aoeideat a:
the Round House yesterday, died here
to-day. There have been no further de
velopments as to ths cause of the acei
dent. An investigation by the coroner
will be held in a few days.
Cincinnati, July 20.—Peter Neff, a
pi:n;er hardware importer west of the
Allegbanies, and for many years promi-
nentTin that trade, died in this city this
morning, aged 81.

an* Italian, in a quarrel with Antonia

A man named John Gallagher, mem
ber of a notorious Tenth Avenue gang,
was killed late Saturday night in a g-a-

at the mines of the Mclntyr- Coal Com

of 152 to 33 bas approved a bill removing

ho has issued an order that the premises

Halifax, Jaly 20.—The Government
steamer Glendon arrived here at nine F-
from Sible Islands, with 79 persons
trom the wrecked steamer, Stale of Vir
ginia, being all the passengers on board
of her, and tbe foremen.
Tne wreck had not gono to pieces
when the Glendon left. Oapt. Woody
and bis craw remained on the island to
endeavor to save property. Tho vessel
is filled with water, but if fine weather
continues some of the cargo may be saved
in a damaged state.
Tbe following is the snbitance cf the
statement of pissengers ana crew: The
Htvamer left New York Thursday, the
10th, at 10 A. if. Ail went well until
:3U p xi. Saturday, when tbe ship was
felt to strike something. Tbe engines
were at once stopped and reversed at full
speed. Tho leads were dropped over the
side to ascertain tbe depth of water. A
boat was lowered and sounded all round
tne ship. A kedge was ran out astern to
assist the engines, bat was of no nse.
Tne pa3seogera remained quiet, bat
refused to go below. Ibere was no har
ry or conrusion of any kind. The crew
started to getting the boats out and an
chor ready.
The cargo was then thrown overboard
notil about high water, when an endeavor
was to be made to “heave” the vessel off,
bat wa? of no avail. Tne boats were
then got ready to land tho passengers—a
snrf boat from tno shore having already
landed one boat-load, and returned for
another.
The serf-boat again started with an
other lot—:wo more torts following it

boat land the passengers of all. since tbe

shore.
In attempting to land, however, tbe

In a moment the people could be seen

Several of the gentlemen passengers in

seeing their wives and children in the

Health of Memphis.
Memphis. Jaly 20.—Ten new cases
were reported to day to the Board of
Health, as follows: John Wnelan, Hi
ram Alley, J. C. Bierman. Harry Bay,
Mrs. B. F. Miller, Henry Miller, Ljwis
D. Otto, Fred. Loreatz, Clara Bethel,
Alexander.
The two last are colored. Four per
sona have died of the fever since last
ght: Hiram Atley, Lewis Branca,
J»s. Whelan, Lewis D. 0:to.
There are several other esses cf fever
_ the city which will be reported to the
Board of Health to-morrow.
The authorities are seeding poor peo
ple out of the city, having mid-arrange
ments to get half-fare rates over the

Paris, Jaly 21.—There has been a
fall snow snow in Dan'pbney in South
eastern France.
Quarantine in St. Louis.
St. Louis, Mo., July 21 — 1’he health
authorities decided lass night to put m
force a partial quarantine against Mem
phis: A corps of physicians and sanita
ry officers was sent down 10 the quaran
tine, fifteen miles below the city, to stop
Memphis boats, inspect passengers and
make use of disinfectants.

Memphis, July 21.—Fifteen oases of
yellow fever were reported to the Board
f Health this morning. Among the
most prominent are W. O. Cappinger and
wife and J. C. Harris, the well known
dentist, Charles Pailmoi and wife, Gserge
Natl and two Misses Rtjs. Two deaths
occurred, Dr. J. C. Harris and W. C.
Cappioger.

pended. The general ontlook is anything

Belief for Memphis.
Washington, Jaly 21.—Upcn the re
quest ot Hon. Casey Young, the Secreta
ry of War will to-day forward to Mem
phis fitteen hundred tents and twenty
dsy’s rations for ten thousand people.

YeUow Fever News.
New York, July 21.—A dispatch from
Dr. R. W\ Mitcnell, member of tbo Na
tional Board of Health, now in Memphis,
to F. S. Davis, of Memphis, now in this
city, says: "Since 9 o’olrck yesterday
morning, nineteen cases of yellow fever
have been reported, and seven deaths
have occurred. Twenty-nine cases bad
previously been reported and six deaths.
Tne fever is spreading.”
WA-BiNaToN, Jaly 21.—~Casey Young,
of Memphis, and other prominent South
ern gentlemen, are contemplating the
orgamzition of a yellow fever relief com
mittee in this city. The idea is, in the
event of the fever becoming epidemic,
relieve m Washington such donations
may be offered, and distribute tho same
to the beet edvan .age throughout the in
fected district. A format meeting to con
eider the proposition will be held to-mor-
row night.

curred in a creole family near Mississippi

telegram to Dr. Harden, President of the
Galveston Board of Health, makes the
following statement of the result: Dr.
W. A. Smyth and 0. B. White, of this
oity, have just returned from viaiting the
r -ported cases of fever in Mississippi
City, on Like shores, and declares them
to be malarial fever. New Orlean
perfectly free from yellow fever. Only
eighty-tbree deaths occurred last week
from all diseases. From a note from
Dr. Smyth, it ia learned that there were
ihree local pbyaioians with Dr. White
and himsslf at theresidenoe of the Creole
family to-day. He says: "We oame to
tbe conclusion that the disease is not yel
low fever, but of a malarial character.
Ore member of the family died last Wed
nesday. All the others will reoover.

Memphis, July 21.—Twenty-one addi
tional cases were reported to tbe Board of
Health this afternoon, which makes a to
