Lbixnoton, Me., July 21—Secretary
Sherman address, d an audience of 3,000
people here to-night. In the coarse of
his remarks, he said the most influential
Democratic paper in Maine had pro
pounded to him a senes of twenty-eight
questions. To his surprise twelve of
tnem related to a dispute of ten years’
standing in Congress, as to whether
United States bonds should bi printed by
a private bank-note company or tbo Bu
rean of Printing. This question, he said
was decided by an oot of Congress two
or three years ago, and he only carried
ont its instructions. It was a perfectly
barren subject.
Almost all the other sixteen questions
related to (be report of the Glover Com
mittee. That committee, he said, had
been afforded every facility for tbo ex
amination of the accounts of the Treas-
nry department, with tbe assistance of
xperte, bat tbey had not found that an;
body bad stolen money from the govern
ment. They found some irregularities,
bnt no dishonesty, and tbey hounded
one honest, pare minded mm (Dr. Lind
man) and be a Democrat, into his grave
on what I honestly believe was a false
and unfounded charge.”
I am glad to say fo you that for
three years not one single dollar belong
ing to the United States have been lost
or wasted in the Treasury Department,
Mr. Glover’s report was made to a Demo
cratic House, bnt the latter did not re
gard it worth printing and the report
wrs finally pablisbcd by some newspa
per nt its own expense, or Glover’s, I
don’t know which.
The secretary then proceeded to dis

and the history of silver coinage, going
over tho ground for the most part covered
by bis Portland speech.

Tabboeo, N C. 1S7S.
Da H R Stevexs—
Dear Ar—I foci v^ry arfttcful for what your
valuable medicine, Yegeiine, has done in my
family, t wish to express my thanks by inform
ing you of the wonderful cure o!m# »on; also to
let 3ou know that Yegetine is the best medicine
I ever saw for Chill a Shakes, Fever and Ague.
My $ou was sick wi.h measles in 1S73, which l**t
him wits Hip-loint disease. My ton tuffered a
great deal of pain al! of the time; the pain was
*o great be did nothing but cry. The uoetort
did notbelp him a part de, he c>u!d not lift his
foot from the floor, he could not move witnout
crutches. 1 read your advertisement in the
**l»uisril!« Courier-Joiu nal,” that Yegetine was
a great Blood Purifier and Blood Food. 1 tried
one bottle, which was a great benefit. He kept
on with the medicine, gradually gaining. He
has taken eighteen bottles in all, and he is com
pletely restored to health, walks without crut
ches or cane He is twenty years of ace. I hare
a younger son, fifteen years of age, who ii sub*
ject to Chills. Whenever he feels one comiug
on, he comes in. takes a dose of Yegetine and
that is the last of the Chill. Yegetine leaves no
bah effect upon the system like most of tho
medicines recommended for Chills. 1 cheerfully
recommend Yegetine for suca complaints. I
think it is the g catest medieite in the world.
Respectfully, MRS J W LLOYD.

tone of vigor ts the whole body.
