From tbo well ladened tbbles of Mr

The Coming 1'lcnle ana Barbecue.
In the upper portion of Bibb county
there is an organization of which frequent
mention has L-ed made in these column-,
known as tbe Oomnlgee Farmers Club.
The organization reigns supreme in How
ard district, and is one of the institutions
f tbe county. It has been the custom
every year to give a huge barbecue about
the let of August when crops have been
laid by and the hard worked farmer hae
some respite from his labors. This year's
barbecue is expected to surpass
111111 any that have been given in severa*
years, and ths most extensive prepara
tions are going forward to make the oc
casion one that will be remembered.
Next Friday has been selected as the
day, and the place u situated in the Hew-
ard district about nine miles from the city.
The opening address of welcome will be
delivered by Colonel A. M. Lackett, the
president of the clnb and will bo follow
ed by a paper on the history of the
diitrict by Mr. Bright W. Lundy, one
of the first young agriculturalists of his
district. An agricultural address will
be delivered by Colonel Thomas Har
deman, after which the award o! tbe
prizes for premium crops will be made
A committee of nine farmers are
now engaged in riding over the district
determining who has tho best crops in
the various branches of farming. At one
o’clock the important feature of the day,
dinner, will he announced.
There will also be an exhibition of
homo products and home manufacture?.
This will he quite exteneive, os the whole
district is expected to join in in sending
everything that will in any way add to
he eibibithn.
With a commendable display of appro'
cistion of their presence, the club ha?
tendered an invitation to alt the ladies,
both young and old, of the surrounding
country to come and participate in the
festivities free of charge. Tno gentle
men, however, will be charged a small
fee of admission to the exhibition of
twenty-five cents. The greatest sort Of

the club and all of its friends.

On Thursday night last tbe closing ex
ercUea of the T'ennille High School took
place. The school is nnder the charge
of EtjV. T. J. Beok and lady, Mrs. Beck
befttg specially in charge of tbe mnsioal
department. Tho day exercises consisted
of recitations, original compositions and
somo mnsio, and took place In the school
house. This was crowded to its utmost
cspooily by the patrons of the school and
'he people ofTennille, and every part of
the lengthy programme was highly en
joyed.
At night, however, the most important
exercises took place.
In front of the sohool bouse, which is
located eomu two hundred yards irom the
depot, <s a grove of trees, sn arbor bad
beau erected, and tbo verandah of the
school bouse was used as a stage.
Catin salutatory opened the programme,
and, until nearly midnight, a very largo
crowd remained, listening to varied and
highly inters.ting exercises. We wish
wo had spies to speak in detail of the
programme.
Tho recitations and all showed very
fine training, and sevoral farces and cha.
radcs were excellently produced. Around
tho stage were several transparencies
with mottoes and figures, made by Cap.
tain J. 0. Wheeler, of Macon, who was
present daring the exercises.
The school is ono of the largest and
best regulated tn Washington county,
and its conduct reflects credit on Bev
Mr. Beck, the principal, and his accom
plished lady.

Death or Mr. Frank Nlslitt.
Mr. Frank Nisbet, expirod yester
day morning at two o'clock, from a strok
of paralysis, at the residenoc of bis
brother. Judge James T. Nisbet. He
reoeived the best medioal attention, but
tbe stroke was a fatal one. He was thirty
or thirty-five years of age, was raised in
this oity, but lived, Bt the time of his
death, on a farm near Bolingbroke, hav
ing come to Macon in fine health and
spirit?, to attend tbe fnneral of his bro
ther-in-law. Mr. C. B. Wright. Ha leaves
a wife and two very interesting and
beautiful children, having married the
daughter of Hon. Junta? Wingfield, of
Entonton.
Mr. Nisbet was conneeted with thia
office for ssveral years when Colonel Wm
A. Beid was one of the proprietors, and
during that time discharged every trust
with promptness and exemplary fidelity,
bearing himself with the greatest recti
tude and scrupulous regard for his good
character. He afterwards .became con
nected with tbe Brunswick rond, and sub-
sequently retired to tho country for hi.
health. He was a most amiable, estima
ble and cultured gentleman, greatly be
loved by all his associates. He was a
member of the Presbyterian church. His
funeral will take place from that church
at 9 o’clock this morning.
The Atlanta Caast Line.
We call particular attention to the ad
vertisement of the Atlanta Coast Line,
offering tickets to New York via that old
and reliable roato to Portamou'.b, Yir-
inia and from thence by the old Domin
ion Line of eteamship?. The tickets by
thia route are good until tho last of Octo
ber. Tho line presents eome very at
tractive features. It give a rail line a
large portion of the distanca and a day on
the ocean. The steamers are three in
number, leaving on Mondays, Wednes
days and Saturdays. They are large and
splendidly appointed steamers and finely
officered. The distance from Macon to
Portsmouth is thirty-four hours and
from thence to New York twenty-six
hoars.

The number who will go to ths Indian

seems to be just what many were wishing
for, and from all parts of Southwest and
Southeastern Georgia there will be de! >.

swell the crowd to very respectable pro
portions. The tickets will be on sale to

CITT FINANCE*.
Bore Chances Desired.
The opponents of the new bill before
the Legislature are still dissatisfied with
it in its present form. Tuey desire the
bands to fall due at different dates.
Those friendly to the bill urge that tbis
will destroy the entire BCheme. The ob
ject of the creation of the liberal float
ing debt fond is to enable the Commis-
eion to buy in tho bonds from time to
time as they are able, and, in this way*
they will purchase them in all prob
ability at less than their face value,
but, by the other plan, when they fall
due they would have to bs redeemed at
their full face value. The long date3
would, it i3 urged, be unsaleable on ac
count of everybody wanting the short
dates, the percentage being the same.
Another objection raised is to the
Mayor and Caairman of tho Finance
Committee being members of the Commis
sion, and in reply it ia stated that their
membership will be a mntaal benefit to
both in keeping all well posted in the
workings and wants of both.
Ia case the Mayor an I chairman of the
Committee are excluded, it ia desired that
the refunding bono3 b9 signed by the
chairman of the commission instead of
she Mayor of the city. It is not likely
the amendments sought will bo adopted
by those in charge of the bill, in which
case tho amendments desired will be for
warded to Atlanta, with a proteet to the
passage of the bill.
THE FULTON COUNTY MURDER
An Old Man nnd Mia Wife Brutally
Buthcliered.
The murder which was discovered near
Atlanta yesterday, created a great deal
of excitement, especially in tho quiet
neighborhood in which it occurred. From
the Dispatch we learn the horrible par
ticulars as follows:
Martin Dsfoor, an old man seventy-
four years old, w*3 found with his wife
dead in their beds this morning. Mr.
Defoor has been ferryman for a number
of years, tending the feny aercss the
Chattahoochee river about seven miles
from the city on tho Marietta road. It
is supposed that the parties who commit
ted tee deed were concealed in the house,
and somo time during the night uaed an
axe in catting the throats of their victims.
The object of the murder cannot now be
determio-d, as no great amount of mon
ey was miss ng. A lamp was left burn
ing on the bed in a back room, leaning
f gainst a pillow, which it failed to ig
nite. The officers are scouring the coun

REPORT.
Col. IT. H. Reese, Secretary Macon
County Agricultural Society: Tne Com
mittee to whom was assigned the dnty of
reporting tho condition of the crops in
tbe county of Macon, submit the follow
ing:
The erop of corn in Eomo portions of
connty has been injured by tho drought,
and in other portions the crop is eqnal
to, if not more, than last year. All
things considered, we believe tha’
there has been a sufficiency made to
meet the requirements of the connty. As
there has been but little corn shipped
to the county for the past year for con
sumption, we are of the opinion that we
will require but little, if any, to carry on
the farming operations for the incoming
year. As compared with corn, the cot
ton in some localities is small bnt healthy,
baying suffered from drought. Bat with
favorable seasons tho county may realiz -
an average crop. The crop of oats and
wheat, wo consider from 10 to 15 per
cont. lets than lust year, and of an aver
age crop. Wa are pleased to note the
improved condition of the planting in
terests generally, especially of the stock
of horse and mule colts. We also note
with pleasure the genius displayed by
onr people in improved maohinery.
