Poisoned by Ice-Cream
Peteb-bubo, Va., July 27.—On Satur
day evening Captain Hamel Dodion,
with his wife, five daughters, two grand
children and 000k, were made seriously
ill by eating ioe-cre»m, the custard of
whion had been boiled in a brass xsttle.
The neighbors to whom some of the ice
cream h"d been sent were aleo taken ill
after eating it.
Terrific Storm in Pennsylvania.

city or immediate vicinity, was fearful in

Bbookton, Ont., July 27—Daring a
terrible thunderstorm this afternoon, the
wife and child of George Hatton, who
took refuge beneath a tree, were struck
bylightniag. The child was instantly
killed in its mother’s arms, and Mrs,
Hatton fatally injured. A man was also
killed on an island a short distance np

Little Rock, July 27—Robert M.
Johnson. Reprva-n'attve from Arka'.sas
from 18-17 to 1853, and Senator in Con
gress from that tune to 1861, died at 11:30
last night, ac his residence in this city,
after an illness of two weeks. Prior to
the war, ho was a man of.'unparalleled
popularity in Arkansas. Through his
personal influence a grant of lands In aid
of building the Iow«a and Felton aud
Memphis, Little Rock and Fort Smith
Railroad was passed by Congress.

New Yobk, July 28.—Michael Fitz-
gibbons, one of tbs Memphis refugees
who came here, died to-day at quarantine
ofyellov fever. John Henneesy, one of

contracted yeltow fever, died at quaran
tine last night. A. F. R.ith, barber of
tho Bteamer Saratoga and E. B. Esty,
steward of tho schooner Freddie C. Ej-
bitt, from Haitian ports, were admitted
to the hospital to-day, sick with tbe
fever.

Cnarles Temple and James Ord, a son
of G-ntral Ord, Department Commander,

wanted, when the latter knocked him
from his horse with bis fist. Temple re
treated, bat was followed by Dewees, who

Sashrllle’s Quarantine Against
Memphis
Nashville, July 23.—On and after
Thatsday next, the Louisville and Nash
v ile railroad, having determined to dis
continue its trains between McKenzio
and Memphis, which connect with those
of the Nashville, Chattanooga and S
Louts railroad, trains on the latter road
will not go further than McKeDzie.
Nashville will then be without direot con
nection with Memphis. Trains on tho
Louisville and Nashville railroad stop
ping at Milan, one hundred miles distant,
and those of the Memphis and Charleston
railroad at Moscow, forty miles distant.

New Ohleans, July 28.—The case of
Ninceoza Spono first attracted attention
on Saturday, when Drs. Bemiss, White,
Bailey and Holt visited the patient and
all agreed it was a sporadic case ofyellow
fever, the first that has occurred this
s-'asou. A member of the Board of
Health immediately sent a nurse who re
rnained with the girl until she died at
one o’clock this morning. She was buried
in Cypress Grove Cemetery
The Spono family has been here two
years, bnc last summer, at tbe breaking
out of tho fever, removed to Carrollton
and their bouse retuuined closed during
tbe entire season. Tho family moved to-
d y to another house. The B -aul of
Health are destroying all the budding,
etc,, and fumigating their premises.
The entire neighborhood, four squares
around, is being disinfeoted with tbe new
